I am still in disbelief over the magazine piece with Ryan Reynolds saying he loves José Saramago’s novel “The Tale of the Unknown Island”. Saramago is serious literature. He is maybe my favorite living writer. I have never met someone else who has even read a Saramago novel, let alone someone who loves one. This definitely made me re-evaluate Ryan Reynolds.

You do know Saramago’s novel Blindness was turned into a movie last year, right?
Yes, I do know about the movie. I didn’t like it though. His books are amazing. I don’t think they are filmable though. Still never met anyone who has read him. None of my friends even saw the movie.
