I'm not gonna offer too much preamble to this, writer-actor-Colonial surgeon John Hodgman's address to President Obama at the 2009 Radio and TV Correspondents Dinner. I'll just say that it's a nimble, brilliant dissection of what it means to be a nerd and how the Bush administration was staffed by jocks. Oh, and how President Obama may just be the man to straddle that great cultural divide.
By the way, I know the answer to those three Dune questions Hodgman posed at the end. Without doing any research. Because I am a geek. Do you? (I'll pop the answers in the comments.)

1) Shai-hulud, 2) a thumper, and 3) the Water of Life. As I said, geek.
A very funny presentation. I watched it last night and the President’s comments were very amusing, also.
So funny, I really liked it, but then again I’m a geek!
Isn’t great to have an intelligent person at the White House working as the President??…
The US citizens can now brag about their brilliant leader when they travel abroad…not so when the infamous and highly unpopular GWB was in office…there’s nothing like being smart…very good USA…
Somehow I think Hodgman would be disappointed to have this described as simply a funny take on the nerd-jock divide, when what he has really produced is a brilliant set-down of the ideologically entrenched on the right, the left, and anywhere in between.
Just great; love John Hodgman. And yes, my geek flag flies – knew the answers to all 3 questions. Kind of nice to be proud to be a geek (or nerd; varying definitions) these days…And yes! A smart person in the White House! Finally
wtf is dune??? XD im a jock then LOL
I was sober and watched the same show…I thougth BO,s funnies were tasteless and FLAT…i.e. not funny at all…he is looking more like Napoleon of Orwells
“Animal Farm” than any other President or political figure in the nob fictional history of the Good Old USA…he is a talks a lot but has not done anything meaningful since he took office…what a flake…
shai hulud, thumper, water of life -yes I am a nerd
As Gervais once said to describe John Hodgeman, “He’s an owl,” an owl of information.
Loved Hodgman’s roast of Obama. Maybe the Pres. really is a geek after all. Found a great piece that asks how long the geek culture in washington will last? http://bit.ly/15QkIk
