Forget Voldemort's killing spree: The Potterverse is about to get its Melrose Place on judging by these newly-leaked posters for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (out July 15). Just check out the look on Hermione's face as she watches Ron cozy up to Lavender.
And get a load of Harry, all serious and smitten, gearing up for his My Girl moment with Ginny (I know, I know: Macaulay Culkin was about half Harry's age in that movie. There's just something about those glasses…). This one in particular looks like it was made just so Potter fans can go nuts pasting their own heads over Ginny's (feel free to share yours below!).
After the jump, we also get glimpses of Draco, wand in hand, and the kooky Luna Lovegood. But really, from the posters, it looks like the Ron-Hermione-Lavender love triangle — which gets zero screen time in the trailer — is going to be front and center in the movie.
What do you think of the posters, PopWatchers? Are you excited for some grown-up romantic intrigue in the movie? Or would you be happier without it?

Wow that Malfoy poster is beyond reminiscent of the Joker posters from The Dark Knight. Good on the advertising team!

Sarah El, that’s exactly what I thought. “Why so serious?”
Being the shipper that I am, I’m pretty excited to see the romantic aspect of the movie, even though I’m sure tons of people will complain. I like it, and it’s a nice change from the normal drama. The last two movies will have plently of that, so I’m fine if HBP doesn’t.
You can’t really blame Hermione…Pam Beesley is macking on her man right in front of her.
Whats’ with the pink balloons?

I am kind of disappointed in the Harry and Ginny poster. I wish they looked like they were actually looking at each other not just existing in the same picture. I love HP and can’t wait to see this movie!
The best ones are the Draco and Luna ones, the “trio” got on my nerves in HBP. (yeah, I said it!)
Hee, I love Ron and Hermione’s flirtation/jealousy stuff. I’m a total shipper
So I’m happy to see it in the movie
I’m a shipper at heart so this movie has already won me over. lol I loved the book, I loved the relationships, the intrigue, the Tom Riddle backstory, the mystery of what Draco is up to and the identity of the Half-Blod Prince. All of it! This book also has one of the best endings of the series, second only to Deathly Hallows! The cave scenes and Astronomy tower scenes should be epic and emotional!
That poster is like a dream come true, really! More of that, please! I can’t wait for July 15!
Plus, I have been waiting for years to see Harry and Ginny FINALLY hook-up!
Wow, so these posters were clearly done to try to win over the rabid Twilight audience, because apparently the most important thing in these young adult fantasy stories now is the romance factor. Sheesh.
And great call, Sarah El, that Draco poster is TOTALLY a copy of The Joker poster. Where’s the originality, Potter advertisers?
Dark Knight and Harry Potter are both marketed by WB so it doesn’t surprise me there is some similarity between the Draco and Joker posters.
And the romance element has ALWAYS been in Half-Blood Prince. So no, they are not trying to “win over” the Twilight audience. Someone always has to try and compare the two. It’s getting old. *eye roll*
Laura, what is wrong with a little romance? I am not a Twilight fan in the least but I do enjoy the occassional romance. I loved the Harry Potter relationships and in the 6th book those relationships really started to come together. Why should you be surprised that the movie will reflect that? It has nothing to do with appealing to “Twilight audiences” and everything to do with representing what was in the book.
I am both a Twilight fan and Harry Potter fan, but Twilight does not even compare! The relationships have always been a big factor in Harry Potter and I do not think they are trying to appeal to the Twilight audience with the “romance factor”. All of these posters look great!
Laura: your comment seems a little odd. Romance is not a gimmick just to reel in this current generations teen audience. It’s sort of universal. (Romeo and Juliet, Wuthering Heights, Pride and Prejudice, Tristan and Isolde…) The great thing about the HP series is how Rowling let the characters mature naturally through the books, they’re not cookie cutter cut outs of their 11 year old selves. They’re going through adolescence pretty realistically and this includes, yep, falling for you best friend’s sister.
You can’t really say they are trying to capitalize on the twilight thing. Remember this movie was done and supposed to come out before Twilight, WB just pushed it way back. The romance was always going to be there. Now do I think that making this seem like a big romance movie is the best marketing ploy, no, but realistically it is there in the book.
HBP sucked eggs. It was a crap story and totally ruined the series. And don’t get me started on the so called romance. There was a beast in his chest?! WTF?! Rowling should stick with fantasy and not romance. What a way to ruin your series.
Ron’s hair looks absolutely horrible. I hope it doesn’t look like that throughout the movie because it is bad enough to distract me from paying attention to what’s going on, constantly thinking “UGH what a horrible hairstyle…”
OK! Let’s just get this out of the way. Twilight is a horribly written series. I don’t care how much you love it, you have to admit, it is only huge because of a good concept executed awfully. Harry Potter is a great series. Shut up Twilighters.
Regardless of whether or not you like the book or romance storylines in HBP (I, for one, did not) the composition of those posters is really horrible. The Harry and Ginny poster is just cringe worthy and in the Ron poster, he isn’t even looking at Lavender. Just terrible all the way around.
THE DRACO POSTER IS SO AWESOME. SERIOUSLY. It’s perfection. SO interested to see if Tom Felton can pull off emo-Draco. I think he’s going to do great.
HBP slowly but surely replaced OOTP as my favorite in the series, because I love the little triumphs. While the aftereffects of Harry’s interview in The Quibbler was my favorite scene, I began to really enjoy things like the moment Ginny and Hermione quarrel and Hermione’s magic bird assault on Ron. I am pleased to see that the whole Weasley Is Our King thing will finally get it’s day, because it was important to give Ron something of his own to do, and to give him some doggish, boy-like parity with Hermione after she dated Krum.
To maered: I never really liked the ‘beast’ stuff either; I rather thought Harry would feel pained and perhaps depressed for what he’d missed out on, not raging with jealousness. But then, I’m not a Gryffindor. Maybe it had something to do with the piece o’ you-know-who attached to him, and thankfully croaked with him.
WTF,stick to the topic. i am digging the posters.feel like we should’ve had these earlier though, considering that WB has made us wait this much longer for the film. i am excited to see these romances play out on screen these relationships amp up emotional connections and create some of the end game turmoil to come in the final installment.
Yes, the teen angst/romance was always in HBP, and yes, they been saying since the beginning (i.e. before Twilight came out) that this movie was a bit lighter/more fun that than usual. That being said, I don’t like these posters. This is Harry Potter, people!
JK.
mjryan, he’s not looking at LavLav because he doesn’t like her
Guys, I know that the romance factor has always been in the Harry Potter stories, but it has NEVER been played up this huge in the promotions before. The advertisements/posters have mostly focused on the good vs. evil, Harry as the hero aspect of the stories – which is a much larger part of the stories than the romance. So, I’m just pointing out that it seems like WB is trying to capitalize on the romance craze brought about by the Twilight books/movies to appeal to that faction, because it’s “hot” right now. If this movie had come out before Twilight, as originally planned, I highly doubt we’d see so many of these romance-type posters.
The poster of Malfoy is fantastic. It conveys the gravity and menace of what he’s intending to do. Good job.
The others are pretty good.
Love the Harry & Ginny romance and I think JK Rowling did it perfectly. It wasn’t a huge aspect and even after they got together it was short lived which is exactly right as the series was always about Harry & Voldemort. But what you could see from books 5 – 7 was how perfect Ginny was for him. And I hope the movie captures that. It was just reassuring to know if Harry defeated Voldmort and survied, he wouldn’t have to look too far for the right girl.
Love the Draco and Luna posters…the others-not so much. HBP does have the teen angsty romance stuff in it but the real story is what is happening as a result of Voldemort coming back into power and the knowledge that Dumbledore is trying to pass on to Harry. I just pray that they get the ending right…that is critical to the success of this movie in my opinion.
I just can’t wait to see Felton finally act instead of always saying “filthy little mudblood”. They better do him justice in this movie. Go Tom!
Laura, you’re still wrong. Since 2007 David Yates announced Half-Blood Prince would be more “sex, drugs, and rock and roll” and that he would like to make it more like a “romantic comedy” while still keeping the heavy and action stuff in. So the WB is only promoting what will be in the film and how it’s always been.
