'Love Happens' trailer: Ga-ga or Gag over Jennifer Aniston's latest?

Categories: Movie Trailers

The best trailers make you eager to see the movie. The worst trailers, on the other hand, make you feel like you’ve already seen the actual film. Guess which type Love Happens is? It includes Jennifer Aniston as a quirky single gal who tends “to fall for these guys with expiration dates right on their foreheads”; a hokey meet-cute with Aaron Eckhart, a self-help guru who happens to be a fraud—thanks for that spoiler; Judy Greer, cementing her reputation as the 21st-century Joan Cusack; rainy Seattle; and the tepid tones of the Goo Goo Dolls.

But perhaps I’m simply not this film’s target audience. When my normally discriminating, college-educated wife watched it, her immediate response was "When is this out?" Is this a Mars/Venus thing? Instead of crushing the creators of this trailer, should I be commending them for hitting exactly the right buttons?

Let’s take a poll, PopWatchers? Thumbs up or thumbs down on Love Happens? (and please include your gender with your answer)

    I’m a female and I wasn’t feeling it.

  • Jo

I’m a girl that loves romantic comedies…and I’m not feelin it either. Sorry Jen..

  • Julie

I’ve seen the promo for this on Yahoo and yes, it looks like a “typical” rom-com/chick flick….But I love Aaron Eckart and Jennifer Anniston is likable in just about anything, so I will probably be at the theatre within the first two weeks of its opening. (Oh, and I’m a chick!)

  • Vince

    Oh God Judy Greer?
Wasn’t she the “super sassy best friend :D !” in that horrid “27 Dresses”?
Yes she was. This movie looks…bland. Not horrible, not good. Unfortunately, bland movies are the worst type of movies- those movies that you can’t really have a positive or negative emotion towards- those are my least favorites films.

  • Kate

I’m a woman and I eat this stuff up like cool whip straight out of the container. Gorgeous, conflicted, single guy who just needs the help of one “normal” gal who’s never found “the one”…count me in. The sappiness (music, Seattle) is literally the cherry on top. C’mon people – don’t lie. You know it’s true.

  • graeme

so it’s 2 people who meet and fall in love? what’s the plot? it doesn’t seem like much happens at all, and it seems all very dramatic for no reason.

  • Vince

It should read “least favorite films”. I fail at spelling.
Also, they totally gave away the whole film. I’ve just seen the whole film in 2:30 min. C’mon guys!

Jennifer Aniston is yet another boring, tedious, role as a lonely, depressing woman hungry for a man…why are constantly bombarded by movies with her lack of talent?????

  • Derek

I think it looks great. Love jennifer aniston and aaron eckhart is a dream.

  • Emma

    SCHMALTZ.

  • anonymous

YAWN….I’m not spending one dime on another Jennifer Aniston movie…they’re the same thing over and over and over again…warmed over Rachel again and again…..YAWN!!!!

  • hc

I’m probably not going to watch this movie, but it sounds like you’re trying pretty hard to pigeon-hole it. What makes you think Aniston’s character is “quirky”? Because she owns a flower shop? Because her life is screwed up? Who’s isn’t? It doesn’t seem like a bad movie, but not particularly interesting either.

  • Catherine

Female here. Like all kinds of movies including (but not limited to) confections like this … count me as a thumbs up.

  • EM in MS

Hi. A Female here and I agree with Kate 100%: It’s totally true! So,it’s a Total thumbs up.
Oh, and i heart judy greer!

  • Valerie

Female – will not see this junk. Seems that JA has not grown very well as an actress -always the same look, same hair and same character.

  • kth

I’d probably go see a movie that’s just 90 minutes of a still frame of Aaron Eckhart smiling, so…yeah. Trailer is cheesy, they give away the whole movie, but it’s like comfort food. You know exactly what you’re going to get. Which is Aaron Eckhart, being cute.

  • Carolina

Love the trailer-will definitely be there opening night. Love Jennifer and Aaron together-this should be sweet.

  • Kara

are you all serious? you would really see this movie?? i love aaron eckhart but this looks lame, lame, LAME. and aniston is only interesting to me as rachel. most of her film characters are boring and exactly the same, with the exception of the good girl (w/ jake gylenhaal)

  • PeterBilt The Nature Boy

I am PeterBilt The Nature Boy and this looks like predictable rom-com. The only thing missing is Dermot Mulroney.

  • Lucy

too bad Aaron Eckhart is in it, I love him! yuck Aniston.

  • Merry

Female – so not gonna waste my money. The only movie I liked with JA in it was the Marley and Me one. And yeah, she pretty much does the same character in every. single. movie.

  • Bridget

I’m a female and would never waste my time with this, since it feels like movie after movie I’ve seen before.

  • susan

Talentless Jennifer Aniston = GAG. She is still, STILL trying to garner everyone’s sympathy over Brad leaving her. I wonder why he didn’t leave sooner. You couldn’t pay me enough money to sit through anything that she’s in.

  • Jonathan F.

it looks nice. predictable. but nice. no harm in nice. i just wish Aniston would do something out of character again, like the Good Girl. some indie flick where she doesn’t play some sweet girl-next-door.

  • Mike L

I would totally see this movie. I’m a guy but I have a soft spot for these romantic kinds of movies. Plus, I love Jennifer Aniston and I think Aaron Eckhart is a really good actor so that satisfies the “actually being able to act” part of the film which is all I’m really concerned with. Good story, good actors… hopefully a good movie.

  • mickey

I’m female and wouldn’t pay good money for this. I’m so bored with Jennifer Aniston and her doing the same movie over and over and over.

  • Judy Cauthorn

I’ll be there at opening. Love a big box of popcorn, a coke and a romantic story. And yes, I love JA and love watching her. I think she’s demonstrated class and dignity in her personal life and doesn’t deserve the nasty comments.

  • Judy Cauthorn

I’ll be there when it opens! I love a big box of popcorn, a coke and a romantic story. And yes, I love JA. I think she’s demonstrated dignity and class in managing her life under the microscope of the public eye and doesn’t deserve the nasty comments.

  • i’m a lady

couldn’t even get through the first 30 seconds. it’s a crime that judy greer is relegated to ’supporting friend’ status when jennifer anniston just plays rachel green over and over again.

  • Flyer

I’m a woman who loves to see intelligent, witty, fresh work, and this movie doesn’t seem to be offering that. Yes, the trailer gives away the entire plot structure, and it seems pretty obvious that this movie is familar, unchallenging comfort food, not an exciting exploration of new ideas and characters.
Pros – I LOVE Aaron Eckhardt’s work and Seattle, so I’ll watch this movie just to see the actor and the city. Cons – Oh boy, that scene of Aaron embracing his dad, Martin Sheen, on stage just hit one of the most basic overdone movie cliches: a redemption/confession scene at the end of the movie, followed quickly by our hero/heroine running off to go salvage the romance. I CRINGED when I saw that. For that reason alone, I’ll be watching this movie via Netflix, NOT on the big screen.
(And by the way, don’t get too attached to the Goo Goo dolls “soundtrack.” Trailers are notorious for using emotionally charged music that somehow never shows up in the actual movie.)
