Is HBO's 'Bored to Death' the hipster version of 'Castle'?

While watching the brief, 40-second teaser for HBO's new half-hour crime-comedy Bored to Death, I got the vague impression of deja vu. Read the full post.

like cop, lawyer and doctor shows people seem to still find the PI job/work interesting enough to take it on faith that can support a drama or comedy. i just turned 41 and i’ve been a licensed PI for 14 years, the last 9 in nyc though i travel often for work. and i live in brooklyn. what interests me about PI shows is that to date, they’ve all been far from the actual work and very few people have any idea what the work, though varied, really involves. even in nyc i am most often the first/only PI people have ever met. i’m not saying it’s a special career but i forget how little people know about it, compared to how often it is continually portrayed on the tv, film, books etc.
though the details of my work, not much corporate fraud work 25 plus years ago, i’ve found the nature of the work has been best captured by some of the classic crime novelists like Cain. i’ve seen a lot of greed, lairs, cheats and idiots given ‘power’ or control over the years.
but i dont watch the tv much.

I agree the show looks like it is going to be very good, but to say that Showtime has been trumping HBO in dramas is flat wrong imo. True Blood and Big Love are two of the best shows out right now rivaling anything Showtime has to offer.

Schwartzman is amazing. I bet he would pair well with Suzie Cocktail… has anyone heard of her? Here is the youtube link to her latest crazy escapade… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KL1mOzsHTEw I think she is hysterical!!!
