Being a 30 something the show would seem to be more like a program my 20 something younger sister or 12 year old daughter might get in to. Still, I rented it on the premise that it was set in a small town(I love the feel good warmth of small town television shows and movies). I found myself immediately intoxicated. The theme song alone brings immediate anticipation and joy. The development of the characters is phenomenal even if they take a while to get the point. It’s true that the kids in this show are portrayed as growing people going through all the pains that youth inflicts, but what makes the show great and sets it apart from other shows such as Dawson’s Creek, is that it focuses just as hard on the lives of the adults. It portrays not only the pains of growing up, but the pains of raising those who are growing up. I too stumbled upon Everwood on DVD. And, fortunately for me both seasons 1 and 2 were already available. It is a shame that the audience wasn’t there to continue this show past 4 seasons, or that the actors didn’t want to continue, or whatever reason the studios had for cancelling the show. This feel good drama that takes head on the real life issues we face as both adolescents and adults should go down as one of the better shows ever created for television, even if it was short-lived.
