'Everwood' season 2 finally gets released on DVD: Anyone else excited?

After five long years, Warner Bros. finally released the second season of its gone-too-soon show Everwood on DVD today. That's right: The show, which lasted four seasons until its cancellation in 2006 around the birth of the CW, has only had one season available for your home-viewing pleasure. (And that season came out way back in 2004.) As someone who caught Greg Berlanti's series a bit too late and has only seen the first season on DVD, this is very exciting news, indeed. Now, finally, the first season's big cliffhanger — whether Dr. Brown (the excellent Treat Williams) can save the life of Amy Abbott's boyfriend, Colin — will no longer be a mystery. (I still don't know, but I can make an educated guess, though.)

It only took one season for Everwood to strike me as something special — an intelligent, warmhearted family drama that dealt with serious issues but also had a sort of comforting preciousness to it. (Must be the lush mountain scenery. Makes you want to light the fireplace and drink hot chocolate.) More importantly, the show treated its teenage characters as real people, instead of obnoxious, over-sexualized stereotypes. With nothing much on TV right now, reestablishing my crush on Emily VanCamp sounds like a great alternative. Let's just hope the wait for season 3 isn't, you know, another five years.

Are there any Everwood fans still out there? Are you planning on buying the DVD? And is anyone else glad to have this theme music (below) back in their life?

    Finally!!

  • Liz M.

I am a huge Everwood fan. I was very distressed when the show got canceled. Before shows such as Greek, I would be so relived to come home monday night and watch the going ons of a small town in the mountains. Since the shows end I have been wanting to have the ability to re-watch favorite episodes over and over. I’m thankful for the second season to be out on DVD but i wish they would release the third and forth because that is when things really heated up.

I’m so happy!! I miss Everwood!

Finally!!! I tried watching it on WB.com at one point and they were gone before I could keep up. It’s about flippin’ time!

  • Kristen

I watched from staart to finish and miss it every time I see a new reality show premiere. Don’t forget that is where Sarah Lancaster got her start. But not until later seasons.

I pre-ordered it a couple of days ago on Amazon!! Oh gosh, how I miss this show… And it only gets better and more intelligent with each season. It’s such a tragic example of a show that was unfairly overlooked because of the conventional family-drama package it was wrapped in. But it was so much more! The characters were real, the plots were believable yet always had a kind of fantastical glow to them that made the show so much fun to watch. But as good as season 1 is, I personally think it’s the least good of the series!

  • Melanie

I rewatched Season 1 this past weekend in preparation for Season 2 coming out today… so excited!

  • Leila

I am so there! I loved this series. The voiceover by Irv, the characters, the humor…all I can say is “it’s about time”.

  • gillian

Just waiting for my package from Amazon to enjoy one of my all-time favorite shows! :)

  • petra

    i am happy too!

  • Karen

Finally! I can get rid of the VHS tapes of the ABC-family-aired reruns I’ve been carrying around. The WB.com only had a few eps up at a time, which was annoying. Here’s hoping 3 comes out quickly!

  • Briana

Quite possibly one of the best shows The WB had. Of course, I really loved the show when Scott Wolf joined. (Party of Five has to be one of the best shows ever! Let’s count how many people got their start on that show….)

After Everwood’s cancellation, a group of fans raised money to set up a Ferris wheel near the studio to encourage execs to reconsider. It was a warmhearted gesture befitting a warmhearted, intelligent show. There are many fans who are celebrating this release, and hoping that strong sales lead to the issuing of season 3 in short time. So welcome to the group, Jeremy.
And yes — that theme song! My wife teases me that it’s on my iPod shuffle workout mix, along with the likes of AC/DC and Radiohead. But that song never fails to boost my spirits!

  • Laura

FINALLY! This was one of my all time favorite shows, and I can’t believe it’s taken this long for them to release the 2nd season. What a travesty. And Jeremy, your comment about the teens on this show being “real people” is exactly why I loved it so. Why can’t they make shows like this anymore?

  • Nate

    About Frakking time!!
This news are just as exciting as they make me angry at WB. Everwood was not one of the best but THE BEST show the WB ever had. I watched it from episode one and never missed one ep. I was so angry when the CW didn’t renewed it. I’ll still refuse to buy it on dvd until I know all four freaking season are out.

I know I have been waiting for this for a long time I had given up hope but am thrilled because this was a very good show. And I so agree that this show got cancelled too early there was so much more they could have done. What is it with networks cancelling shows in there prime.

  • Kaitlin

THANK GOODNESS. I was *this* close to resorting to buying some bootlegged version of this in China…which my friends already own. Now I can get the real deal. Any idea what the special features might include??

  • Stef

Wow, I never thought this day would come. I am so excited.

  • katie

BOUGHT IT TODAY!!!! SOOOO EXCITED TO WATCH IT!

  • SSt

Awesome!!! One of the best shows I have ever seen! I watched the reruns every single day back at home, and I could never get enough… a true shame that it got cancelled…:(

  • lila

I loved everwood, I was so sad when it got cancelled, I would buy 20 copies if it meant that they would bring back this show..a girl can dream.

  • Isabella

I am so excited. I hope they release Season 3 soon, because that’s when Ephram and Amy FINALLY get together. Oh, and Hannah shows up too! Love her. *sigh* I heart this show. Hopefully I can have all the seasons on DVD. ASAP.

  • Mike

Everwood is one of my favorite shows, I was so excited when I heard it’s second season was coming out on dvd! Truly one of the best shows I have seen!
