Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett: This could be interesting...

Kristen-Stewart-joan-jett_l I confess I was a little skeptical when I first heard that Twilight's Kristen Stewart would be playing Joan Jett in the big screen rock bio The Runaways. I've liked Stewart since her turn as Jodie Foster's no-nonsense kid in 2002's Panic Room, but her more recent incarnation as Twilight's damsel in distress didn't exactly scream "rock goddess" to me. (I will state, for the record, that Joan Jett could kick Edward's ass from here to that eternity he's living in.) But after seeing the latest photo of Stewart with her new black, shaggy rocker 'do, I will admit: It really does suit her, and I'm maybe, possibly beginning to see it. What about you? Are you starting to like the idea of Stewart as a Runaway?

I am impressed with her look in this pic. I am excited to see her do something other than the extremely cheesetastic Twilight series (before you Twilighters attack I’m a fan of the books but the movie was horribly done and the preview for New moon doesn’t look much better.)

    LOVE IT!

  • Ana

I think she looks awesome and will portray Joan Jett great. Alot of people are worried about her cutting her hair because of the whole twilight thing but i know that she will be back to bella by the time Eclipse starts filming. Everyone needs to leave her be and STOP following her every move.

  • Silv

    Yikes! Hope that’s a wig.

  • Adam

She was way hotter before the hair makeover. Too bad.

UGH. Yes, she looks the part but THAT HAIR CUT is awful!!!!!!!!!!!

Being an avid Twilight fan, Twilight the movie stunk. That being said, Kristen SHOULD NOT be judged on that one film alone. That is just plain not fair. Her body of work, including Speak, The Cake Eaters, Panic Room, and Into The Wild, I think showed her potential as a great actress.
I personally feel that Kristen is going to kill this performance and prove everyone wrong. I have never heard her so thrilled about getting a role in her life. I think that she is taking this seriously and putting her all into it.
Do not judge her based on Twilight. Give her a chance people. I mean look at her. She is Joan Jett incarnate.

  • Heather

Oh, and just so that everyone knows, Joan Jett herself gave Kristen her seal of approval for playing her.

People that are getting upset over Kristen’s haircut need a reality check. Kristen is an actor; Bella is a fictional character. Anyway, I love her shaggy ‘do. And Joan Jett can kick any vampire’s azz. LOL

I read the first Twilight book and thought it was crap so I haven’t seen her in the movies. Every time I see this young woman in interviews or on award shows she is mopey and fidgety and thoroughly inarticulate. She is a cute girl, bit it is like the lights are on and no one is home. Didn’t movie studios at one time coach young actresses and actors on deportment and etiquette?
I love love Joan Jett and the Runaways and hope this actress can pull off the role and the movie rocks.

People need to stop saying she looks ugly with this hairdo. Newsflash it’s for a movie role. It’s not like she’s going to keep this hairstyle. Anyway, she looks so much like Joan Jett, it’s quite scary.

  • Sarah

K-Stew can’t act… she is just good at getting stoned… Hormones on Drugs… if you call that acting!

  • Sarah

K-TWAT can’t act… all she can really do is get stoned… Every role is the same; twitching & trembling… Hormones on Drugs (if you call that acting)

  • Melissia Rafidi

I think she will take that role and run with it. She’s ok at playing the damsel in distress but it’s not really her, she needs to rock out and show more of that energy she has inside of her. I think she looks really good with the new do. People just need to learn to give others a chance to prove themselves before condemning.

kristen can totally pull this role, she is great.
btw, sarah you mustn’t hate kristen so much since you follow her every career move… you comment on every new article on kristen… that or you really need to get a live, envy is not becoming.

I’m looking foward to this. Loved Kstew in Speak, Into the Wild, and Twilight. I am not a fan of the Twilight books (cheese factor way, way too high, clunky writing) but the film had a beautiful, indie vibe, and really brought the Pacific Northwest to life for me. Plus, Stewart is just incredibly talented.

  • marion

shes gonna do great! shes the kind of actress who’ll do everything she can to make it work. she cares about this movie so much that every fan of the Runaways can trust her. Kstew is fierce, people who have doubts about her well..they shoudnt, shes gonna blew minds, you’ll see, im sure of it.

  • you

    nice save Liz haha
i think she looks extremely like Joan (in a good way) im just worried about her singing. it may not have that same edgy feel to it.
i have to admit tho i have a girl crush on her and she can do no wrong in my book. Kstew rocks

  • cherie curry

    @21,
Yeah, I’ve noticed that Sarah and a few other haters pop up in the comments section of most of the articles I’ve read about Stewart, usually posting word for word the same comments (trashy, drugie, etc..) usually the comments read as though an illiterate 4th grader wrote them. It seems as though there is a small group of obsessive haters who spend hours daily surfing the web for articles about Kstew in order to post the same bizarrely childish, illiterate, garbage.

  • hear you me

    haha nice save liz

  • Shaun

Poor Kristen. The haircut is awful. But kudos to her for having the guts to do this. She totally will pull off Joan Jett. She’s more Joan Jett than Bella anyday.

  • 21

    @cherie curry
i couldn’t describe it better. i found it annoyingly odd. plus is sick and twisted, if i hate or dislike someone so much why follow their every step, i prefer to not even acknowledge their existence.

  • Kim

I won’t judge till I see the movie. I like the hair, it’s alot like Joan Jetts. Hope she can pull it off though, I wouldn’t think she had a tough a*% attitude that Jett has!!

  • Christina Rueda

She is going to rock this film. She is naturally good and she really seeps into character, other actors would probably get a wig to look the part, she has the true guts. love it…i hope she gets to smash a guitar.

  • Ryan

I can’t WAIT to see her in this film.

  • amy

I hate it! she looks like she hates it too. Poor girl she would have been better off to wear a wig for the movie. I bet she will do not do that to her head again!

  • Los

As much as hate hearing about all things Twilight, upon hearing of this, a number of attributes Stewart has would make her a good Joan. She’s got the look down clearly, and she has kind of a low voice like she does as well. I could see her pulling it off.

  • Emily O.

Love her. She will totally rock the movie as Jett.

  • Spider
  • maile

bella who? lol Kristen has that tomboyish but sexy swagger that Joan has, and it’s rare to find that in an actress in Hollywood, where all you get is a bunch of fake badgirl wannabes who just pose on motorcycles ala megan fox.
