Must List poll: What's the Must movie sequel of 2009?

Tags:

Can't wait much longer for the continuation of some of your favorite movie franchises? Neither can we! 2009 might as well be dubbed "The Year of the Follow-Ups" as some of the most beloved characters are making their way back to the big screen this year. So which sequel are you most psyched for? Did yours already hit theaters like Angels & Demons and Terminator Salvation or are you counting down the days for more robots in disguise (and, OK, Megan Fox) in the upcoming Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen? Or is there no contest when it comes to the battle of the beloved book adaptations with the Twilight saga's New Moon and the sixth installment of Daniel Radcliffe and crew's Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince? Vote below and let us know!

You forgot “None of the Above,” which is my vote. Give me something original, thank you.

Transfaormers, ROTF by a hair to New Moon.

It has been WAY too long since the last Harry Potter…hurry up July 15! Can’t wait to see HBP! New Moon is a close second for me on this list…LOVE Rob-he is amazing!! However, I’m still nervous about the screenwriter totally getting the story and feel of New Moon wrong like she did with Twilight-that would suck!

I agree with Brian–much prefer originality–but I can say that Potter for me feels like a chapter in a saga more than a sequel–it doesn’t have the feel of a sequel, as Transformers or even Terminator will, though Terminator is essentially a saga. Don’t get me started on New Moon. I wish I could pop myself into a bubble and separate out the fangirl stuff from the actual quality of the movies and books. If I thought there’d be rational discussion involved, I’d gladly discuss, but there won’t be. Even the Potter mania of the past wasn’t this bad.

I picked twilight saga: new moon, ’cause i’m ‘ard. ;)
nah,it’s because i’m one of those obsessed fan girls. *Coughs WHOOO team Jacob!*
it was hard, because i’m in love with harry potter aswell, and trancformers is bound to be good.
i’m going to be spending a HELL load of time at the cinemas this year :L

I’m often annoyed by sequels being called “unoriginal.” I’ll admit there are some franchises that should never have gone beyond the first film (*cough*Matrix*cough*), but there are a lot of movies out there that get me so invested in the characters that I actually WANT to know what else happens to them. And just because we get returning characters doesn’t mean the second or third films can’t still be original. You can’t tell the exact same story as before and expect it to do well so new plots and ideas have to be developed. And when you get a movie based on source material with a lot of stuff to pull from (Harry Potter books, comics/graphic novels, mythology created by the franchise) you can certainly have fresh and original continuations. Alien was a great movie that I liked even better when I saw its sequel Aliens. X-Men 2, Spider-Man 2 and TDK were even better than their first films so I’m happy we got those sequels. And they were TOTALLY original.

Harry Potter!! I can not wait. I’m already recruiting people to hit the midnight showing with me.

None of those movies can’t touch Harry Potter! Not even New Moon, believe it or not.

oh, this was a hard choice. what to chose? HP6 or NEW MOON?… AHHH. but i eventually chose NEW MOON. because i just really want to see JACOB. however, never have i ever missed a HP midnight preview and nor will i ever. But, this year i might just wait a couple of days before i see NEW MOON *if i can be patient* because Twilight’s midnight premiere pissed me off, not the movie, but the gosh darn tween fans! screaming EDWARD everytime pattinson’s face was blown up on the screen which is about the whole movie! and screaming BOO! everytime Lautner shows up. And plus, i showed up 2 hrs earlier only to be the last to be seated which i ended up in the front row and at the side causing me a neck injury after the movie! When did they start letting people in the theater 2 hrs before it started? GEEE!!!!!! anyways… ahah long story short. i love both, but im more excited for new moon. there is just something about Twilight that turns all of its actors into GODS. =)
