First not only do you talk about how this movie wasn’t great, deigning yourself too good for this comedy, but then you go on state that if you really want something enjoyable you should watch NBC’s “I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here”?!
    Please.
Ferrell was alright, maybe the movie is not going to be the best blockbuster out there, but PLEASE don’t tell us to go watch that celebrity junk reality show. If anything it makes your article lose more than just credibility.

Hey Josh, first of all I am loving the club.
I should say that I am a big Will Ferrell fan. Loved Anchorman, and laughed my butt off during Step Brothers, This being said, LOTL was good for what it was. Was it my favorite movie in the world? no, but it wasn’t my least favorite by a longshot.
You have to admit when Chaka starts singing in perfect english, it cracked me up.

  • Ed

    Hmmm, let’s see:
    bad script + obnoxious/one-note star + uninterested public-at-large = BOMB

  • Caryn

Kinda glad I skipped LOTL at this point! Though I have to admit that I’ve been watching most of “I’m a Celebrity…”. I keep meaning to delete the recording of future shows but then some craziness happens that I figure I’ll watch. So… Josh, I can attest to it being the sort of thing you really want to look away from but dangit, you can’t.

Lucy — I did not deign myself too good for this comedy. I think I stated my credentials for liking lowbrow things. Again: Loved “Step Brothers.” Love all things “Jackass.” Nothing tickles my fancy like a flatulence joke. They just have to be done well.
Or, as in the case of “I’m a Celebrity…”, so crazily bad that it defies belief.
Where Duran Duran falls into this, however, I have no idea.

Actually, i thought the film was very good! But I’m speaking in the point of view of a person that sorta doesn’t watch Will Ferrell a whole lot. But, i think people aren’t focusing on the film, but maybe Will Ferrell and how “unfunny” he is nowadays.
The only thing that made me wonder was that it was a PG-13 film with bad language and sexual content, while the TV series technically was for kids. I saw parents with their kids running out of the theater (Seriously, RUNNING, not walking).
But still, I loved that film.

I also enjoyed the movie very much, yes, I am a big Will Ferrell fan, but I found the movie very funny and very, very entertaining. No disrespect to the writers, on the contrary, kudos for writing a script that on camera felt more like an impromtu comedy where the actors seemed to be having lots of fun. Both me and my 15 year old son enjoyed it.

Bad timing is all. He had two pretty good movies out at the same time. It’s a typical Will Ferrel movie, it just came out against grown up competition of The Hangover and the love of UP had not decreased yet.

He just does the same schtick over and over..Funny the 1st couple of times but gets old quickly. Same with Jack Black..I really liked him at 1st (Orange County,School of Rock)..but now you could’t pay me to see one of his movies..Can’t stand the guy now..Maybe they both need to go away for awhile and sort or regroup
