In an MSNBC interview today, Contessa Brewer ferociously batted cat toys around via satellite with radio host John Ziegler, whose on-camera presence is strongly reminiscent of SNL-era Norm MacDonald. Ziegler had interviewed Gov. Sarah Palin in response to a recent Late Show with David Letterman Top Ten List that mocked her typical “slutty flight attendant” attire. (Palin called Letterman “pathetic”; you can listen to the Ziegler/Palin radio chat here.) Right off the bat, Ziegler thanked Brewer for having him on “Barack Obama’s Official Network.” Zing! “Do you even want to do the interview?” Brewer wondered. Oh, he sure did. Wow, that guy was a jerk and a half. Contessa was right. She was just giving him a forum to talk about his interview, and he could have said whatever nice things he found out about Sarah Palin, but instead he clearly just took his appearance on MSNBC as an opportunity to bash NBC, and not actually say anything. If he’s so upset about the big, bad media (which he kept referring to in the 3rd person, even though he’s in the media) not having real content, maybe he should do something about that, rather than feed the lack of content on the 24 hour news networks.
And Palin deciding that Letterman was making fun of her because it was a “slow news day”? I think he crossed the line with some of the jokes, but it has nothing to do with the day’s news, because he is not a newsman. He’s a comedian, and he tells jokes about what he thinks will make people laugh, not what is the most important news item of the day.

Let’s not forget about this gem the classy Letterman said, “The toughest part of the visit (Palin’s in NY) was keeping Eliot Spitzer away from her daughter.” Wilow Palin is 14 years old, that’s a pretty pathetic comment to make.
This interview definitely showed that Contessa has a little bit more journalistic maturing to do. Ziegler answered her question about Letterman’s “slutty” comment and it threw off the rest of her interview and took her back to her freshman year communications class; confusing.

Was Letterman’s joke in bad taste, and was Palin justified in taking offense? Yes. Was it funny? Hell yes (and brutally true – some of her outfits were spot on Ann Taylor After Dark). Letterman’s a comedian, not a news anchor. These are jokes, people, and the name Palin is synonymous with the word punchline.
Wow, considering how people like Ziegler, Palin and Limbaugh had been raging against Obama, attacking everything from his mother for marrying a black person (which conservatives loath) to the fact that his father was muslim, its pretty funny to see how you Republicans respond to your own medicine. You all have the audacity to be insulted by this interview, yet its vice versa is the standard over on CheneyTV/Fox News. This was not a funny joke. A 14 year old getting raped isn’t funny. If this happened to Obama’s girls you wouldn’t like it all. Letterman hasn’t been funny since the 90’s.
The joke was about SPITZER being such a letch that he would hit on Palin’s kid. How did that get turned into calling Palin’s daughter a whore? Oh, yeah – it gets done that way because a) Palin needs attention however she can get it since she’s unable to get it through her intellect, and b) Republicans have a “blame the woman” attitude for all sexual jokes and encounters.

Contessa Brewer acts as if Sarah Palin should not be insulted at the comments of Letterman, yet she said to John Ziegler, “For you to come on and use those sort of insults, insults me”. She then said, “Cut the mike please”. Can’t anyone see how ridiculous this is?
