After weeks of buzz and excitement, Nurse Jackie finally premiered last night, and as expected, star Edie Falco was, you know, excellent, and the show clearly has the Read the full post.

Terrible debut. It certainly isn’t going to help doctors gain back the respect the American people have dropped for their favorite television programs and internet sites. Falco nailed her title role, but that is all the writers got right. They are hitting below the belt with Dr. Coop being completely incompetent. Sounds like a writer has a bone to pick with doctors. As for snorting Oxy, she shouldn’t be able to hide that for long when her nose explodes, so to speak.
It is a stunning insult to practicing nurses everywhere. What a cliche stereotype. No one has been able to write a great nurse character since ER and Nurse Hathaway. Good God. . . who are your techinical advisors. This is pure trash and not supported by nurses anywhere. Please contact us to get some REAL writers who blog and write about REAL nurse trauma and clinical stories!

To the nurses complaining: Get a grip! It’s fictional entertainment – quit taking yourselves so seriously – it’s not about you!
She’s not *supposed to* be a good example. It’s not like they’re setting her up as a perfect role model or human being. Not all tv characters are supposed to be shining examples. The drug use is hardly about her being a nurse–it just makes it easier for her to get drugs. The drug use and the infidelity are part of her as a human being–who just happens to be a nurse. You don’t see all the blood spatter experts whining about how Dexter is protrayed. I haven’t heard a grumble about how House is a horrible example for a doctor. It’s dark comedy (pitch dark), not a reality show.
I’m an RN who loved the show. Can’t wait for next week….For those complaining about how much they hate the drug use, the extramarital affair, the fact that this is an RN doing these things give a grip. This stuff all happenes in real life and in no way shape or form represents what nursing is about. The show just happens to portray the life of a fictional person who happens to also be an RN.
julie, the song at the end of episode #2 is “hey hey hey (it’s gonna be ok)” by stephaniesid, from their album ‘grus americanus.’ (you have to search “stephanie’s id” in itunes because of a recent band name change). http://www.stephaniesid.com
Nurse Jackie rocks, saw all three episodes. I’d like to know what the little red beads are tht she snorts, must be speed of some sort. She also crushes percodin and drops it in her coffee for a quick relief of pain. What I love about this show is, this is a person who has issues that she helps along with unconventional RX methods, but is dedicated to her job and paitients to a fault. She is as good as she is bad, and only goes to show, how many professionals in this country have excelled with the help of medication. We’re all over, trust me. We do great work, have good attitudes, are loyal and faithful to a fault. But we have another fault, we need meds to help us out. Hat’s off to Showtime and Edie Falco for a terrific show! Thank you! I also love Weeds and Dexter! Awesome work guys! Keep it coming please
I really enjoy this show, its humor etc.,it is,of course,an exageration… entertainment! If I want to see what nurses are really like, I would stay at work, and NOT be entertained at all!!
This was the worst depiction of nursing I have seen since Nightingales was produced in 1989. This drug addicted, sex crazed, inappropriate nurse is NOT the person I want taking care of me. She had sex for drugs, committed a crime by forging a signature, delaying treatment to a choking victim, hanging the wrong drug on a patient and was certainly not a role model for a younger nurse. The nurses I know are knowledgeable, caring, respectful, professional and competent! TAKE THIS SHOW OFF THE AIR STAT!
I only wish it were an our show. It has the grit of Rescue Me and it totally fictional and for entertainment purposes only! It’s not a personal attack or portrayal of nurses. Just Entertainment!!!!
really? You don’t want a tv show nurse taking care of you? How weird. Take your own temperature stat. How dare a tv show characturize a department of human society. TV should be for reality only.
Whoever said TV is for reality only is living on a prayer. TV has NEVER been for reality only so why start now? I love this show. It says all the things about life that people do not want to admit to. Of course people are mad because it shows just how messed up people can be. I have met TONS of people in my lifetime who have the exact problems working jobs more important than nursing, seriously.
