'My Name Is Earl' could be saved by TBS...What else could network-trading rescue?

Categories: Deals, Television

My-name-is-earl_l TBS is in talks to pick up NBC’s recent castoff My Name Is Earl – hey, they have to make room for those prime-time Leno hours somehow! That news plus the fact that CBS is picking up NBC’s canceled Medium – not to mention ABC’s fair success with running also-formerly-of-NBC Scrubs — has me wishing we’d gotten this TV version of the NFL draft going sooner. Granted, the switch to cable in particular has a down side; namely, budgets can be smaller there. But I’d love to see ABC’s late, great Samantha Who? find a home on, say, Lifetime. (Good old Television for Women is, after all, slowly moving toward hip-ifying itself with Project Runway as well as sitcoms from the likes of Sherri Shepherd and Valerie Bertinelli), as well as underappreciated single-girl dramedies ABC’s Men in Trees and CBS’ The Ex List. Meanwhile, the CW’s Privileged could’ve lived a long, happy life on ABC Family. Speaking of which, maybe that net’s own Kyle XY would’ve done better on Sci Fi. (And as my colleague Marc Bernardin noted, Dollhouse, though spared the ax by Fox, might’ve been better off on cable, if only for creative reasons.)

What do you think, PopWatchers? What other TV draft trades would you like to see? Where would Dirty Sexy Money, Life, and Pushing Daisies go?

DAISIS WOULD FIT IN PERFECT ON SYFY

Kings should be saved by a cable network. Either Showtime, or FX or HBO.

I wish another network would pick up The Unit! CBS was stupid to cancel the show…they didn’t do it any favors by banishing it to Sunday nights at 10pm either. I’m sure it’s too late for the show to be saved, but it would seem to fit into the mold of networks like FX, USA, SPIKE or even HBO or Showtime.

i always thought that pushing daisies would do great on bravo, (or scifi, even) but being that bravo replays episodes of six feet under from time to time, (or used to… or at least they did in my imagination) i would love to see it show up on bravo!

“Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”. Why Fox saved the ultra-cr*ppy ‘Dollhouse’ and cancelled the brilliant Terminator, is beyond my comprehension.

I wish a cable network had picked up Pushing Daisies but I guess it’s way too late for that now. Everyone involved has moved on to other projects.

Privileged would be good on Family, even good ol’ ABC could have taken Privileged, it’s soapy witty dramedy, just like most of it’s other shows on their network, it was defiantly to witty and not sexy enough for the CW, it may have looked like a teenage drama, but we know it was a 20/30 something dramedy, pity it went so soon, add it to the list of ‘gone too soon’ pile

I wish Reaper had been saved and it would be perfect on SciFi.

Life would be a great fit on USA paired with Burn Notice. Charlie Crews is a great character, and USA claims their shows are character-driven (and actually are). Crews and Michael Weston would make for a great back-to-back pairing.

Bill B – I’m with you on Reaper. It could’ve had a long, happy life of Sci Fi.

I’d love to see anyone pick up DAISIES, SAMANTHA and EARL. But let’s face it, they aren’t easy sells. All experienced falling ratings. And all don’t come cheaply.

I would love to see Eli Stone saved. It would probably fit in on USA, or maybe even SciFi (a little bit of a stretch).

Put The Unusuals on USA, where characters are welcome!
