I saw Scary Movie with the WHOLE family! Yeah, I was banned from movie picking for awhile! lol
Over the last several years, I’ve been pretty comfortable seeing movies with my parents, especially my dad…There’s Something About Mary, Bad Santa, Knocked Up, Superbad…but the worst was when I was 15 and I sat next to my mom during “Fear”. When Reese Witherspoon & Mark Wahlberg are on the rollercoaster…let’s just say I can’t listen to “Wild Horses” around my mom anymore.
I saw Scary Movie and Wedding Crashers with my dad. He loved Wedding Crashers; each time he found something funny, he hit me on the knee. By the end of the film, my knee was black and blue. Unfortunately, he didn’t find Scary Movie as funny and walked out.
Even more awkward though, was when one of my classmates brought a bootleg copy of American Pie to a school-sponsored field trip. The teachers allowed us to watch the film, not knowing any of the plot points; they were quite surprised and shocked. I think from that moment on, they were the only ones who picked the films we watched on school trips.
I saw “Stuck On You” with my mom and younger sister. I thought it was funn, but I couldn’t/wouldn’t laugh out lound because I saw how upset it was to my mom. She eventually made us leave.
granted,my mom is all about pg movies.the only time we saw an r rated movie together was thelma and louise.the rape scene was wierd to have my mom sitting there.she went to the bathroom before brad and geena have sex,and im like stay gone a couple more minutes, all the girls are like he is so sexy, talking about pitt. my mom came in during the climax of that scene.
Now that I remember I saw Amelie with my mom since I had read the excellent reviews of it online. First of the pregnancy scene, then the 15 orgasms (lol), plus the sex shop where one of the characters work made me get the remote a couple of times & forward it. My mom said that overall she liked the film but told me to never show her a French film again.
I saw Brokeback Mountain with my DAD, his girlfriend, HER mother, AND my GRANDMOTHER. Don’t ask me why. Really. I don’t know why.
The sad part was, it’s a really good movie. And that first viewing was pretty much ruined by my cringing at their reactions the entire time. My GRANDMOTHER…
Had to be when i saw “Leaving Las Vegas” with my mother and father, they made turn it off right after the rape scene. Then there was “8mm”, another nic cage film about snuff films, yeah that wasnt one of my best choices since that time my parents wont watch movies that I pick unless they have heard of them.
I was talking about this at work today! I went to see the Hangover last weekend with my parents. After the first 10 mins, my dad leans over laughing and tells me to ask mom how she likes it so far. Cracked me up. I also saw American Pie with the folks, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, the new Heartbreak Kid. Not to mention all the times I’ve watched things like The Sopranos or True Blood with them. It’s always awkward and uncomfortable though. I still laughed my ass off at The Hangover. And so did they.

there’s nothing in this movie that moms haven’t seen. It isn’t saw or hostel people!

A few years back when I was probably around fifteen years old one of my childless uncles came to the conclusion in his drunken stupor that “Sin City” was the perfect celebratory Christmas film for the whole family. I got to watch that with my parents, kid brother and an assortment of relatives, the youngest of which was probably about five and (thankfully) had no idea what was going on most of the time.
I saw “Y Tu Mamá También” with my parents and it was absolutely mortifying. The numerous sex scenes were bad enough, but when the threesome happened, I wanted to sink in to the floor.
Aw, Kate, I love your mom!
