although i’ve been stoked on the show, i’m down with VH1 doing whatever they think they need to do, as long as they KEEP PAUL F TOMPKINS!
I remember back when Best Week Ever first started airing…it was one of the best comedy shows on television. The jokes were sharp thanks to the eclectic mix of talented comedians. Then suddenly the E! network debuted The Soup featuring the tour de force known as Joel McHale, and stole all of BWE’s thunder. I think VH1 tried to emulate McHale’s successful format and, sadly for them, they failed miserably. Paul is a funny guy, but he doesn’t have the charisma to carry an entire show. BWE’s charm came from the different view points of its many comedians and when they were no longer shown, the show just fell flat. I think BWE could have lasted with the old format, but I’m not even sure how much longer they would have lasted anyway because The Soup basically does the same thing, but better. Long story short: I started out loving BWE, but became more of a fan of The Soup (while still watching BWE on occasion), but after the revamp I completely lost interest because it became dull and unfunny. I have a good feeling most people felt the same as I did…hence the cancellation of Best Week Ever.
