I am appalled that Julia Roberts was cast for this movie! All the women I know who loved this book are not buying JULIA at all. Kate Hudson would have been a better pick. Someone YOUNGER for sure, but JR is NOT the right fit. I think Bardem will make a fantastic Felipe but really, I don’t envision a believeable love connection here. I WISH THEY HADN’T PICKED JULIA ROBERTS!

“No one” is a pretty bold claim, especially since millions upon millions of people still check her news stories, show up and appearance and buy tickets to her movies. Julia is just as great as she’s always been, if not better. The occasional box office crash and burn is typical of any star at her level and she has had far fewer of those than most with the number of films under her belt. It always baffles me when people are arrogant enough to attempt to speak for everyone else.

I agree she is wrong, Elizabeth Shue would’ve been perfect but unfortunately she bought the rights through her production company to the book… ugh!

I read and loved the book. I don’t have a problem with the male casting, but, as much as I love her, can’t imagine Julie Roberts playing Gilbert’s character.

I thought I was the only one who saw Elizbeth Mitchell in this role – she is such a compelling actress – PERFECT for this role…..sigh. And Javier Bardem would have had such wonderful, sexy chemistry with her.

I was disappointed when I heard they were making a movie of this. I feel in love with Gilbert’s tale and have read it many times. It’s one of those books that should stay on the pages. Hollywood is so quick to turn a book into a movie these days, that it dampens the literary aspect. It’s a wonderful story, and should be read my many people, instead of being spoon-fed to the masses. I doubt any actor could bring out Elizabeth’s charm and genuine naivete, nor could any director bring the magic of the locations to the screen without being campy or contrived.

I read the book and it seems to me that Renee Zellweger would have been great for the part. I can totally see her jumping out of a window going for meditation. I think Julia will does not suit the part.

Why Julia Roberts? She looks nothing like Elizabeth. Elizabeth herself would have been a better choice. It is the repeat of Erin Brocowich – Erin is such a great girl – she could have played herself in the movie.

This book is so awful. I can’t believe they are going to make it into a movie!! and even more, I can’t believe Bardem agreed to do it!!!
