Maybe the man in black is “Esau” and he is the twin brother of “Jacob” like in the bible. “Esau” hated his brother “Jacob” and told him that he wanted to kill him.

You can write 8 pages of nonsense after a boring episode, yet can’t put out a recap of a terrific finale? What gives? Keep yanking your audience around- I’m about to stop checking this site.

Why this obsession of trying to guess what will happen next? These past 5 seasons are so rich and full of Easter eggs, wouldn’t be better to refresh some of those clues rather than speculate? Claire, the lists, the whispers, Faraday’s rocket experiment, Jack’s dad, the MIA tail pax, the never-aging Richard, the never-dying Michael, Walt and Desmond’s being “special” and the list goes on and on… Personally, I would rather revisit these dozens of small mysteries/clues and weight their importance rather than waste time guessing 10 different scenarios, where 9.5 will likely be way off anyways.

Jeff, don’t feel any pressure. Take your time and do it right. If we have eight long months to go till the series returns, we can easily wait a few weeks while you pull together words and video for us to enjoy. I’d rather savor my food than gulp it down, unlike some of these ‘gimme-gimme’s’. (“I want an oompa-loompa now!”) Trust in your feelings, Luke. We’ll appreciate your efforts that much more.

@Aaron: Doc already put out a column about the finale. In fact, he put out two: one called Starting Over and one called Juliet’s Odyssey. This final column of the season was to address the enduring mysteries and what the fans want to see answered most.

@Kate and George Orwell: the producers said on a podcast that Jacob is a good guy.

I think this theory is by far your worst. It is way too simple and if I have learned anything from Lost there is always that WTF twist!

one of the key questions I haven’t fully seen addressed yet is the fact that John Locke really isn’t John Locke which means Jack’s dad also wasn’t really alive when John saw him in that cabin…so what is this force walking around pretending to be people and ultimately killing Jacob in the final scenes? I’m also completely confused as to why certain people from that plan landed in one era and the others landed at a different time in space. and how did Rose and Bernard survive all this time out in the jungle.

  • Carol

@julie: my theory is that Richard and Jacob have secretly been caring for Rose and Bernard the past three years.

I don’t mind waiting for your column, Doc. You did such a good job this year that I can cut you some slack. My only regret for Season 5 is that Locke is dead. I hoped for a more rewarding ending for him. To he healed and empowered at the start only to be totally used in the end is a major letdown. But I remain a loyal fan of the show and your column.

OK. Iwas going to wait until after the big wrap up column but I have grown weary of waiting. My theory is that Doc Jensen is a big stooge for the producers of Lost. Gets people all worked up and arguing about plot lines. He’s probably just waiting for them to take a break and tell him which way to misdirect us all next.

Theory: premised on the idea that the failsafe key activated another nuke. Those who were extremely close to the blast will experience the various and wacky effects Locke/Eko/Desmond felt in the beginning of season 3. Juliette, who was right next to it, will find her consciousness travelling to some time in the past in between two instances of concussion (as with Des in flashes before your eyes..) Maybe this’ll happen to a few of the characters. It would finally give a reason for all that knocking out that happens in the show, and would be awesome to see them changing what had happened in the past (if only to find it impossible)
Of course, Darlton saying they’re over with time travel runs against that, but who knows what they’ll actually do. But imagine that, it would be the best season opener ever. Come to think of it, characters being influenced by travelling consciousness would help to explain a lot of odd season 1-2 behaviour.

Seriously, just write the column. It’s getting ridiculous.

The season finale was a downer, in that too many of our favorite characters are getting killed off, which severely diminishes the joy of anticipation of future episodes. I was looking forward to some great revelations from Dan Faraday, but then he gets shot by his mother. I was looking forward to some great connubial banter between Sawyer and Juliet, but then she gets killed in the shaft. I was looking forward to seeing this Jacob character explain a lot of the mysteries, but then he gets killed by Ben, at “Locke’s” direction. And Locke? Who or what is he? And at this point, who cares anymore? Why not just kill everybody off, and have the remaining episodes next year focus on the adventures of Bernard and Rose?
