'The Hangover' makes me wonder if I care about kittens more than humans

I loved The Hangover when I saw a screening of the Vegas-centric comedy weeks ago, but some of my co-workers have scoffed at the film's Read the full post.

The scene in vacation where Chevy Chase realizes he forgot to untie the dog from the bumper and was “agonizing” over it with the cop was hilarious. In a comedy, it is easier to accept the absurdity and not take it as true abuse, whether human or animal.

I loved the baby in Hangover and felt it was one of the funniest bits. I think what makes it so funny is that you know it’s not funny in real life, but you can use it for a comedic moment in an otherwise crazy movie. I can’t remember what comedy movie it was I saw, but it ended with a loser teenage boy walking behind the car to check traffic and being creamed by a bus. Totally not funny in real life, but in this movie world it was hysterical!

Kate, I feel the same way, but here’s my thinking on this. The animal “abuse” in Something About Mary with the dog (flying out the window, catching on fire) was hilarious because they made it obvious it was a stuffed dog and his mishaps were “accidental.” Had Ben Stiller been intentionally torturing a dog, even a stuffed one, it would not be funny because it is too close to real life. The baby in The Hangover was the same way – not real life. The kitten in Drag Me to Hell reminded us too much of what can happen and often does to defenseless animals.

ARE you people kidding me? I in no way like or condone any time of animal abuse, but let me say this. I can not believe you would write so much about an animal and possible abuse and neglect the fact that an innocent baby WAS sexually abused in the move. Do no one see the same movie I saw? When the Alan character makes motions with the baby’s arm that mimic masturbation. He does this twice. When did this become ok?

Of course there’s something wrong with you Kate Ward! But so what? Most people care more about defenseless animals than they do babies. Homeless animals end up in shelters and are cared for.
Are you kidding with this comment?
“Homeless kids end up in foster care and are ignored until they become mal adjusted grown ups. ”
Try homeless animals are euthanized or gassed in a week if they aren’t adopted. Homless children will stay in the system until they are 18. Both homeless children and animals are a result of irresponsible people. So excuse some of us for realizing that some people suck and being human doesn’t automatically mean that you deserve respect.

I was DISGUSTED as well. Its not the first piece of abuse against kittens in Sam Raimi’s work. Don’t watch his TV series “Legend of the Seeker”..same thing. The guy must hate kittens. Well, this is one more person who is no longer a fan.

‘The Hangover’, in my opinion, includes instances of child and animal abuse. This is a very strong example of the type of decay within the entertainment industry that mirrors the decay of our society.
