'Jon & Kate Plus 8' season 5 premiere sneak peek: Things are looking pretty bleak, kids

Jonandkate_lIt’s no secret (really, no secret) that the Gosselin clan of Jon & Kate Plus 8 have seen their fair share of troubles lately. And with their anticipated fifth-season premiere on May 25 less than a week away, TLC has put up a sneak peak on its website. Yay!(?)

First impression? Things are looking pretty desperate, both in the show’s arc and the look in Jon’s eyes. (Okay, I know it’s sort of hard to feel bad for him and his current predicament, but the minute he opens his mouth, you can sense he’s a pretty unhappy guy.) The kids, who are still as adorable as ever, are celebrating the sextuplets’ fifth birthday, but you can’t help but wondering if this year may feature some drama beyond spilled milk and scraped knees.

While there is a genuinely sweet moment when Jon interacts with his brood while they are in a moon bounce and Kate (who, at one point in the clip states, "My kids are the reason I have always done everything") is up to her usual self by being in control (here, during a game of pinata), there’s nothing about this clip that really makes me want to watch the upcoming season more than I did before. In fact, although I gladly admit that I have been sucked into this show in prior seasons, I’m starting to get a bad taste in my mouth because of all of the scandals surrounding Jon and Kate — they’ve kinda turned me off. What about you, PopWatchers? Does this clip make you want to see the upcoming season more? Or do you feel like me and that 8 is enough already?

God, no. I’m out after reading the People magazine interview where Kate talked about how she’s trying to do the best for her family, but she aired ALL the dirty laundry for the world (and potentiall) her kids to see.

I never watch any of these shows that glorify large families. I guess I can understand why a large family would put themselves on T.V. (they need to support their family, after all), but I am not interested in watching them or the Duggars.

I could just never get into cheering for breeders for breeding. No wonder the Octomommy thought the simple fact of having a working womb qualified her for a TV series. Let this show die already.

When is social services gonna step in for these kids? If this isn’t child exploitation…I don’t know what is.

I’ll watch “Jon minus 9″. This guy should be on suicide watch.

I had no idea this show existed! Makes me wonder if this scandal is tailor-made to get more eyeballs …

Erin@ you win the prize of the night for the best one liner…..

I’m sick to death of Jon’s unhappiness over the fact that the life they chose has made him rich, and boo hoo his personal life is gone. He should watch the tapes and realize how she treats him and how little love there has been between them. Check out the Duggars or the family of 12 for a real dose of family.

my son loves this show and at 11, he even seems to think that KAte is kind of mean to Jon, just watched that clip and it’s so clear how miserable and sad Jon is, I remember an episode where Kate said if it ever got uncomfortable for her family they would stop, clearly, she lied

  • Lauren

Yikes, that’s sad. Who at TLC thought it was a good idea to go ahead with that? I don’t get the impression that Jon is unhappy about the attention even though that’s what he always talks about but that Kate runs him ragged and will not even let him talk without running all over him.

I think it’s sad that TLC is even going ahead with Season 5. No family is perfect but not every family gets their dirty laundry aired in every magazine and talk show imaginable. This is not good for the kids who will (and believe me, ARE) old enough to know that something is up with mom and dad. Jon and Kate should kick the cameras out and focus on each other and their family. The $$ and the speaking engagements and the free trips and tans and tummy tucks can’t bring back your family. Maybe they should refocus on family and faith — like they used to. And stop berating each other and both grow up. This is a show about 8 children, not 10….or is it?

Have to call Erin on stealing a line from “The Soup” which first called it Jon Minus Nine. I agree, however, that Jon should be on suicide watch, he’s five minutes from going postal.

  • Toni

Damn if Jon doesn’t need to RUN for the hills! I rarely watched the show before, but now I can see the differences between the 2 of em. Jon lovevs his kids, and his family, but interestingly enough he did not mention his wife! Kate abuses Jon to the point it is uncomfortable to watch

  • Maddie

I’m with B Ro. It’s odd because The Soup has been playing with Jon leaving for a long time.

“Okay, I know it’s sort of hard to feel bad for him and his current predicament”
    Quite the opposite really.
