'Sherlock Holmes' trailer: Hey, it's Tony Stark with a pipe! Elementary!

Categories: Film, Movie Trailers

It sure is kind of Robert Downey Jr. to give us Sherlock Holmes in between the Iron Man movies. And if the new Holmes trailer is any indication, this movie (which costars Jude Law and Rachel McAdams, and is directed by Guy Ritchie) is definitely not going to suck. Downey appears to add just the right amount of smart ass to the Holmes character — though a seemingly different kind than that which he lent to Iron Man’s Tony Stark. We’ve already learned that, in the film, Holmes fights a Satanist, trades banter with a dashing Watson, and is foiled by McAdams’ Irene Adler. Now we get to see it in action. And we like what we see! Take a look below and let us know your thoughts, PopWatchers? Are you already prepared to camp out for tickets to the Christmas release?

    Looks fantastic!!! Can’t wait!

Studios will do anything to create a franchise property. If they played the material straight no one would go see it. Mix in a little Pirates of the Caribbean feel and you have a chance at a big hit.

On the one hand, it looks hilarious and like a really fun time. On the other hand…omg what have they done to Sherlock Holmes? Yikes with the character assassination! Oh well, I think I’ll just enjoy this movie for what it is, while still hugging my Sir ACD novels and Jeremy Brett DVD collection.

this movie is gonna be AMAZING!!!! downey jr is going to give a wonderful performance!!!

  • Clarissa

This movie is definitely going to set off the purist in me, but I love RDJ too much to pass it up.

  • KM

The movie looks great, but I’m a little nervous. Holmes was a drug addict. I hope they don’t take away some of the serious-ness and make him too goofy.

  • Carrie!

OMG!!!!!! can’t wait for this one!!! Love RDJr…and Guy! Midnight showing…..I’m so there!

  • Crystal

Yeah, I think if I just approach it as using the name but having NOTHING to do with the actual character I may enjoy it. Holmes kissing a woman is OOC even if she’s playing him. He would maybe fall for it in a cerebral match-up but not a sexual one.

  • fancypants

I think RDJ’s accent is very credible. I would’ve preferred Hugh Laurie as Holmes, but I love RDJ and am definetly looking forward to seeing thuis.

Just a few words of warning: League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I know it’s a different beast, but…this movie just doesn’t look good. I completely second the vote for Hugh Laurie as Sherlock. He’d be such an excellent follow-up to Basil Rathbone.

  • The Man

This will be a monster hit. Looks phenomenal.

“Beneath this pillow, lies the key to my release.” LOL !
Can’t wait, love RDJ and the movies seems good !

  • anoop

Can anybody name one good movie directed by Guy Ritchie… anyone? :D

  • shelle

God this looks absolutely amazing. I just can’t wait to see this movie! I truly love Robert Downey Jr and anything he is in. He is so talented. I think he makes the perfect Sherlock Holmes! Jude Law looks like the perfect choice for Watson as well. They play well off of each other. It looks like it will be a fun and an exciting ride!!!!

  • DiDi

We have to wait until Christmas to see this? Arrgghh! I can’t wait that long!!! ;P

  • crystal

um, looks good, but not enough like Sherlock Holmes. I am nervous to see it now. but of course I will. maybe just not opening week.

  • tamuchi

Christmas can’t come soon enough! And Robert Downey Jr looks absolutely scrumptious!

  • Sina

The guy who played Archie in RocknRolla is in this, I will be seeing it. This movie looks good.

  • MiamiMaria

This should be fun…Merry Christmas all.

  • Laura

I was there before I saw this. I am now looking to build a time machine so I can see it sooner.

  • rrrrrrrrrrobert

RDJ’s accent is horrible, but other than that, it looks interesting.

  • Nate

I like RDJ but his accent is terrible, just terrible. It’s telling that for Tropic Thunder he was supposed to have a british accent and he told Ben Stiller to make his character australian because he was better at it and here it shows why.
Regardless, I’ll be first in line, though I’m more excited about seeing Jude Law, Rachael McAdams and Mark Strong.

  • Elizabeth

    Yes
    Please
    Now
(I missed you Jude Law…even w/ that silly mustache :)

  • Michelle

I’m so excited for this movie!

  • jessie

Ugh, why are they calling this a Sherlock Holmes movie? This has absolutely nothing to do with that character. It looks awful.

  • Charles

OK, this doesn’t look like the cerebral Victorian Sherlock Holmes we grew up with and I agree that casting Hugh Laurie would have been perfection. But I do love Robert Downey Jr., struggling accent or not, and it looks like a lot of fun. I look forward to seeing it. But didn’t “Young Sherlock Holmes” already do an occult plot? Geez, weren’t there any other bad guys back then?

  • SOlonik

    This looks really bad.

  • jerry

Looks like the sequel to Young Sherlock Holmes…and I mean that in a good way.
Really? People are hung up about it not looking anything like Sherlock Holmes? There’s already dozens of Holmes movies, it’s okay to let them change it up by now.

  • Nathan

Being that it’s directed by Guy Ritchie, I wouldn’t be one bit surprised if this totally stinks.
