'According to Jim' series finale: The first episode I want to watch

So this was supposed to be a Hallelujah! follow-up to the item I wrote last May, when ABC announced its Fall 2008 schedule: ‘According to Jim': Still Not Canceled. (The only text was: Just FYI.) But then I saw this picture from what we now know will be the Jim Belushi comedy’s June 2 series finale, and, for the first time, I kinda wanna watch this show. Here’s the episode description, straight from the press release. SPOILER ALERT for the 3 million of you still tuning in:

"Heaven Opposed to Hell" — When Jim chokes on a shrimp puff, he diesand arrives at Heaven’s gate. With Jim on trial to prove his selflessacts on earth, best friend Andy is summoned to heaven to defend him. AsJim attempts to prove his good works to God (Lee Majors), hissister-in-law, Dana (Kimberly Williams-Paisley), represents the Devil(Erik Estrada), arguing that Jim’s selfishness should mean a certaintrip to Hell.

Back to me: I will have so much (read: some) respect for this show if they actually kill Jim off. And send him to Hell. Anyone else feeling the teensiest bit of interest in Jim? Anyone mourning the series’ passing?

This idea has been done before, in Defending Your Life. And even though I have not seen Belushi’s version, I am sure that Meryl Streep is a lot more entertaining and funnier.

i’ve watch the first few season when it was moderately funny and for some strange reason somehow i doubt they will “kill” jim and make it one of those ifs situations that happen while he’s choking. although i do love estrada and the devil and dana as his representative.

That picture sure makes it look like he won his case and is going to Heaven!! The Devil and Dana don’t look very happy!!!

Jim is better than John, and According to Jim was better than the crap ABC has on Now, all off it be it sitcom, drama, or reality.

Say what you want but Jim will retire a rich man off that show. Its lasted a long time and is syndicated.

Mandi… great article. Really worth my time to find out that you have never watched any of the episodes, don’t like the show… yet you’re going to watch the series finale. I’m glad you have your job, because the world needs more people like you to let the rest of know what not to be.

wow. . . this show is still on?!?!

  • Snarf

It’ll turn out to be a dream – he choked on a shrimp and momentarily blacked out. Trust.

    Shut up Ricky

  • What About Earl?

I would have mourned the show’s cancellation five years ago, but not now. The way they had the two daughters treat their uncle in the last couple of seasons was a turn-off for me and I stopped watching.

The only episode I ever watched was when Jim’s brother (friend?) went on the show Big Brother, another show I love.. it was pretty clever. But I know what you mean by wishing the show would just end, and how cool it would be if a main character REALLY ended up in hell.. it would be fitting for this one!!!

I love the show. Did you see the seen where Larry Joe Campbell (Andy) falls and loses his towel? Hilarious!

This will be the TV Event of the year. So far season 8 of Jim has been hysterical.

In looking at ABC’s upcoming fall lineup, I came to the realization that According to Jim was the only show on the alphabet network that I actually watched in the last season. In my opinion the show has definitely run its course but I am still going to miss it.
