'American Idol': Cyndi Lauper Week continues!

We just read the musical guest lineup for American Idol’s season 8 finale and have just one question: Will Cyndi Lauper be able to sober up?

Lauper’s one-liner killed on Thursday’s season finale of 30 Rock. PopWatch is not suggesting Cyndi Lauper will actually be wasted.

According to mjsbigblog, Lauper might duet with Idolatry fave Allison Iraheta, and Keith Urban could be singing with Kris Allen. And there are *rumors* that the Idol producers are trying to get David Bowie to perform alongside Adam Lambert. WOULD THAT NOT BE THE GLAMMEST THING EVER? Lionel Richie, Carlos Santana, Queen Latifah, Black Eyed Peas, and David Cook are scheduled to perform Wednesday night. Carrie Underwood will perform Tuesday. Get ready.

If they CAN get David Bowie to perform, I will watch “AI” for the first time ever if only in the hopes that he’ll drop a hint about coming out of unofficial retirement and hitting the road for one final tour.

Cyndi Lauper and Lionel Richie = lame to the extreme.
As much as I’d love to see Bowie with Adam, somehow I doubt these producers would have that much taste.

  • sara

soo… EW is now deleting posts that call Richie and Lauper “lame”, and which question whether the Idol producers have enough taste to ask Bowie on the show?? Pro Idol posts only?? Seriously???

  • sara

i see someone changed there mind about deleting the post. interesting…

Cyndi Lauper is fantastic, and I’d love to see Bowie. Urban would be a nice match for Allen, but he’s not heavyweight status yet.

Wow, what a hilarious song. Kidney Now has got to be one of the most genius things that 30 Rock has done this season, and that’s saying a lot. I like how they are able to satirize the whole celebrity song for a cause thing while also truly spreading the word about this cause.
Great celebrity cast, good idea to include Cyndi ‘We are the World” Lauper and I was also way happy to see Rhett Miller lending his vocals to the cause, too. I’ve been anxiously waiting for his new album to come out next month, but for now I’m happy just to see him on 30 Rock.

WOW….CYNDI LAUPER, she is AMAZING !! This woman really has a VOICE !!! Pick up her 2003 album of standards with a “CYNDI” twist titled “AT LAST” it’s a wonderful cd. Her latest from last spring, “Bring ya to the brink” is a great cd of original dance club music. Cyndi Lauper is such a gifted artist !!!

  • becca

carrie underwood isnt c or d list considering shes one of the best selling artists in about 4 years

Cyndi Laupers appearance will be the first time I have watched Idol. I am thrilled she’s doing so much TV and still making new fab music. She’s no oldies act and her music is as fresh and modern as they come.

  • Ann

Cyndi Lauper live? She is brilliant!! I can’t hardly wait!!Her new album Bring Ya To the Brink is fantastic!!

  • Alex

Cyndi Lauper Rules!!! Nobody could sing like Cyndi. She’s gonna rock that place tomorrow.

  • Qwerty

I definitely saw this at the beginning of the season; they’ve used up all the popular singers, and are now going into the group of talented, but burned out singers, or never were hit singers. Joy…

    VIVA LA LAUPER!

  • Andre

Cyndi Lauper is a great artist…true blue musician who is into the craft and I am pretty sure these budding singers of AI will learn a thing or two from Cyndi (maybe except dealing with corporate America…I thought she had a falling-out with the recording industry pigeon-holing her after her 80s success).

  • randy

Wow Cyndi! I’d love to see her duet with Adam and show him hit those high notes better than anyone. You go Cyndi!
Show them you’re still the best shrieker out there.

  • Stacy

The music industry should be honor to still have Cyndi making wonderful music! I don’t normally watch AI but I will tonight just to see Ms. Lauper do her thing! I saw her in concert last year and was blow away!! Very talented singer/songwriter~
