I happened upon Primeval last year after reading about their ad campaign in New York.Prehistoric monsters coming out of buildings? Sold! That firstepisode with the dinosaur ripping apart a kid’s room pulled me in,and learning that Professor Nick Cutter’s missing wife Helen was still aliveafter eight years freaked me out. Sure, it’s a show about portals intothe past (and future) opening up and letting exotic beingscome through — not necessarily an original idea, but still intriguing ashell. Last season’s finale could have easily been an appropriate end to the series, with Stephen getting killed in the ARC, and an epilogue about Helen cavortingwith 50 or so iterations of "that guy," you know "the Cleaner," who died in almost every episode. So what happened on last night’s new season premiere that made me wish the show HAD ended last season?
Nothing. As in, nothing happened. Sure, a pristichampsus came through the "Sun Cage" that’s made of magnetite which meant the Egyptians could control the anomaly. But that’s about all. A cop got eaten, and Sarah (the newest member of the anomaly investigation team) feigned sadness over her boss’ death. There was bad dialogue, lots of running around the British Museum, and a nice shot of the London Eye. Then the injured animal jumped back through the anomaly. The end.
Seriously, I could go into more detail about the episode, but compared to the previous season, last night’s show was a bore, complete with hokey music that reminded me of a bad made-for-TV adventure movie. In fact, I’m going to pretend that last night didn’t happen. I’ll watch the next episode, but I’m not too hopeful. Just like Scrubs, Primeval should have just ended last season.
What did you think? Did you feel the story actually progressed? Are you as let down as I was?

I find it more of a let-down that BBC America decided to pull the second series of “Ashes to Ashes” off of the schedule for this.
I’ve never been a fan of Primeval. It was presented in the UK as ITV’s flashy competition for the BBC’s all-conquering Doctor Who, but in comparison to that show’s wide-ranging and varied storytelling and it’s joyous life-embracing sensibility, it comes across as a bit repetitive and over-serious. Not really my thing.
Perhaps they’re building up to something, say in episode 3…
You definitely need to keep watching. This season is great.
I wouldn’t mind seeing more of this show. Even the movie they’re planning and the potential American spin-off. So it’s not great all the time….it’s still better than most of the crap that on TV now.

Nah, Marc, I’m with you. Just wait- this season stays a great disappointment. Everything that used to make Primeval Primeval gets jettisoned as the season progresses, and what replaces it isn’t very good (for values of “good” that include, well, Primeval). The results have been both dull and irritating. I miss my silly-fun show.
Stay with it. Episode 3 was a shocker. Since then, I have been procrastinating about watching episode 4 onwards. Feeling a bit betrayed.
This writer has a serious lack of creative imagination. Sure, the show is campy, but that’s what makes it fun to watch. Understanding this,I know that I will enjoy this second season as well as I did its debut season.
I say, lighten up, giggle a little at the ridiculous, and enjoy the evening.
I had missed season’s two finale, therefore, I was glad to watch it last night. Season three premire was a bore compared to that. How did Jenny become Claudia again?
This worries me. I haven’t seen season 3 premiere yet, but the first 2 seasons were so excellent, I always worried they wouldn’t be able to keep it up.
But I have to believe they’re building towards something amazing because of the way season 2 ended. They have to be.
first episode was weak, but I plan to stick with it.
I think they should bring back Mabel Rogers, the girl that played Taylor in the Silurian desert episode.
Maybe she runs into Nick somehow. Hard to believe that was her first tv spot. I wion;t name names but she was better and spunkier than some of the regulars

I Love Primeval, and have from the start, but I Agree That Episode One Was Quite…Bland? But It Still Has To Be The Best, And Now I Think It’s Gonna Be Over For Most People:
NICKS dead and JENNY has left, WHATS THE POINT?
