'America's Next Top Model' finale: Unbeweaveable!

Topmodelfinale_lThat headline is just about all the excitement I can muster up for America’s Next Top Model cycle 12, which ended last night with whatever is a greasy runway’s aural equivalent of a "bang." I won’t spoil the winner here, but I will admit that when her name popped up on the You’re A Cover Girl: It’s All Downhill From Here screen, I realized with amazement that I’d never noticed exactly how it was spelled. That pretty much sums up the season.

It wouldn’t be too spoiler-y to revel in the Allison vs. Teyona (pictured, bottom) runway-show ridiculata, though. The hair people totally sabotaged Teyona’s weave on purpose so she’d have to whip all three feet of it around and around (pictured, top) like the fabulous paint-wrestler she’d dreamed of being since she was a little girl. That was the best part of the runway spectacle; the non-competing models flailing lifelessly in a heap with "We don’t have to play Showgirls too, right?" faces ran a close second. This was almost as fierce a challenge as the "real. live. ANIMAL BLOOD!" photo shoot on EW.com’s famed America’s Next Top Doll.

Thoughts on the finale, PopWatchers? They better be fierce. We need to see more of your personality.

Let’s see, Allison had the better commercial, the better picture, and was more comfortable on the runway, so let’s give it to Teyona. Makes perfect sense to me.

  • mark

It was obvious they fast forwarded to picking the winner before seeing the commercials. In past cycles when someone has botched a go see, runway, or commercial that badly, they are immediately sent home. But instead they sent away Amainat (sp?). Then at final judging when they said what a tight race it was for both runway and pictures, I knew Allison would win because of the commercial. But no, the commercial was ignored and instead they chose who they thought wanted it the most. If that is the criteria for picking, they should have given it to Celia because no one wanted it as badly as her. Not giving it to Allison was a joke. At least she took the news like the class act that she is.

Allison was clearly robbed. She had better pictures throughout, a much better final commerical, did 1000 times better on the runway, and she grew the most from the beginning of the season! WTF!?

  • SueS

This show is a joke; the judging is almost as bad as on American Idol; Allison was robbed.

  • Andy

My mouth dropped open during the runway grease fest. And what was Miss J doing, dancing on the runway? How is that allowed? This show gets crazier and crazier… and yet, I can’t help watching and doing recaps.

Boy, was that a crock of BS. Teyona, while pretty, was wholly unmemorable…and Allison has “it factor” written all over her. She was TOTALLY robbed. I’d love to find ONE person that thinks that Teyona should have won.

  • …yawn

Whats so absurd (other than Miss J) is even pretending this show is a competition. Lets just call it, “Who Tyra has Decided Will Win During Casting” and leave it at that.

  • qtbern

You have got to be kidding me. Allison was a one look manakin. The same expression in every single shot. All you haters need to look back at the show and stop being so “If you’re white, then you’re right” The most impressive, most professional, deserving young lady won. Allison always looked like if you say boo, she’d just through her skin. The industry would have chewed her up and spit her out. She should have went home a long time ago. She had no versatility whatsoever. It should have been between Aminia and Teynoa. Aminia had the best body and she will go far. For you haters TOO BAD, SO SAD HATERS.

  • Taylor

It was a sham, and a joke. Allison is clearly the star. Teyona or whatever her name is will be on 17, then we will never see her again, whereas I’m expecting to see Allison in the next Vanity Fair in a high end ad very soon. Her face is stunning, and beautiful, and her humility just adds to it. I almost feel like Tyra gave it to Teyona out of pity, because she knows Allison will have a huge future as an actual model. Allison is one of the few that will go on to be a success, unlike most who are just leftovers, like that chick hosting that new Oxygen loser show, etc.

  • Marcy

Allison was robbed. Their comments were all positive towards her and yet she lost. It was the same when Dani won over Joanie. Dani refused to have her teeth fixed, couldn’t speak clearly and Joanie performed week after week yet Dani won. This is one show that I will not watch next cycle. Allison will get a contract and as you see with others will be more popular and successful than the winner.

  • @qtbern

Thanks for bringing race into this – that’s sweet. Shouldn’t you be in school?

  • rp

i agree with many people here…allison was robbed! she had a better commercial, runway and she looks both high fashion and surprisingly commercial. DAMNIT i don’t know why i keep watching the show…they hardly ever pick the right girl….

  • Ellen

To be honest, with a look like Allison’s, she’s better off starting high fashion and then moving into more commercial work. If she started off in Wal-Mart, her face would be too unusual for more commercial stuff afterwards and high fashion designers wouldn’t touch her with a 10 ft barge pole.

  • alliseyona

I found interesting how the cover girl photo, which is usually a big factor, was left out entirely at the end. no reference in the final photo judging at all. that’s because allison’s photo was incredible, and t’s only had one eye. (that’s what happens when you only do a sideways pose e-v-e-r-y s-i-n-g-l-e shot.)
it was obvious throughout the show who tyra was pulling for…thus the winner. but cudos to allison…who definitely has a big future in the biz.
and thumbs down to tyra who kept berating allison and insulting her throughout the show…how much more rude could you have been?

  • djm

Let’s get real here – what ANTM winner has actually gone on to be a “top model” – not many. For all her “connections” in the industry tyra hasn’t even been able to get her winner in the SI swimsuit issue. Sorry, Teyona (I ahd to actually re-read the recap to see how it was spelled – I actually thought it was Keyana, but whatever) will “star” in those horrid “My Life” commercials next season (which I wont be watching) and will disappear. I liked seeing Fatima last night – she looked fierce in her pics (too bad she has such a crappy attitude).

  • Stephie

    #1 Photos for Teyona – 3
    #1 Photos for Allison – 4
Person whose #1 photos were mentioned by Tyra? Teyona, even with less
Better commerical ( as stated by panel ) Allison
Better Portfolio of CG shots ( as stated by panel )
    Allison
Better overall Portfolio from entire season
    Allison
Winner? Allison and Paulina, because they won’t have to be associated with Tyra any longer.

  • Indy

Allison was sooo robbed. She will be the one I will remember on the show not the other one..what was her name..Oh Teyona or something like that..see what I mean..

  • Duy

Let Teyona have the title. Allison and Aminat will have the actual career potential: Allison with her high-fashion look, Aminat with her amazing body and runway walk.

  • mark shamer

The most memorable models always have “that look”: an example of that is Tyra. Allison obviously has that look. Her eyes pierce through you in every shot! Her innocence and charm make her a clear choice as the winner. How the judges could miss this is absurd! A blind man with a cane could see not only her beauty but also her progress, (which, I thought, was one of the essentials to this show to win!) No offense to Teyona meant, she is without a doubt a great talent, but Allison should have won. She had better photos, was more daring, a better walk and, by far, had a better commercial. And then, the show announces Paulina being fired! Bad job and bad timing on the judges and the show! I, and many others I have talked to, will find it difficult to view next cycle.

  • Gale Cribb

Tyra should be fired & Paulina should be brought back! Teyona or whatever her name is, has squinty eyes, most of the show had as much or more critiscm as anybody, can’t do a commercial to save her life, & Tyra’s gonna send her through??? I’m through watching this show….it’s a farce! I hope it goes off the air. Also, Tyra & bowtie boy/girl are so lame…..what a joke!

  • stiffy

I agree, Allison was my favorite too and she was robbed.

  • Crystal

I don’t understand how she could have won. A huge part of the job is shooting commercials for Cover Girl. I can’t imagine that Cover Girl is happy with the choice. I’m sure it’s going to cost a pretty penny to get a decent commercial out of the girl. How many takes did she do? Also, Allison would have been a much better choice for Seventeen Magazine. She’s looks younger, fresher and more vibrant that Teyona. Oh well! Allison will go on to bigger and better things while Teyona will fade into obscurity after her deal is done. I wonder if Tyra realizes what a joke she and ANTM have become.

  • steve

In all honesty, Natalie, had it and she would have nailed the Cover Girl commericial like she did (along with Celia too) earlier in the contest. However, I’m disappointed Allison lost, Teyona was fierce too, but her Cover Girl fiasco/disaster should had put her in 2nd or even 3rd place, but NOT the winner.

  • Erin

I unfortunately feel like it has a lot to do with “types”. For instance, I feel like Whitney only won b/c Tyra has been trying to find a convincing “plus size” winner for years. Jaslene got it because Tyra wanted an “ethnic” winner. In this case, we’re coming off 2 white girls winning (Whitney & McKey). Allison didn’t have a chance. I knew it would be Aminat or Teyona. Teyona had better pictures (I thought Aminat’s were ALL weak) but Teyona’s best shot was mediocre when compared with Allison.

  • Ohio

What show were you all watching? I am amazed Allison even made it to the final two. The ANTM winner does not do a real Covergirl commercial just those horrible My Life ones which are only shown in the show, so how big an issue is that really? Allion failed to book any go sees, let me repeat NO ONE IN THE REAL FASHION INDUSTRY wanted to book her!!! And lets top it off with her terrible runway walk and one facial expression. The right person won.

  • Anne

The show is a joke especially after this season. Allison was by FAR the better of the two – the only reason Teyona won, dare I say it… As for Paulina, she is better off. Who wants to associated with Tyra Banks. She is so full of herself, she loves talking about how great she is. Give me a break. But don’t fret Allison, we will be seeing you soon and Teyona like the majority of the winners will fade away. Good Call Tyra!

  • T.Laura

Allison did great. Pictures, commercials, presence, speech, intelligence. I did not like Teyona’s looks at all- as person above said, squinty eyes, high forehead- narrow bridge wide tipnose- the sum of the parts did not add up to an attractive whole. Factor in her disastrous commercial- girl can’t speak or memorize or read a teleprompter without sounding DUMB. You could see Jay trying to help her because I got the feeling Tyra really wanted her to win. I do not like the double standard Tyra plays with. Previously, if you screwed up the commercial that badly, you were toast, and at least got a harsh critique. Tyra practices affirmative action/ favoritism. If the girl can’t speak, why would you want her representing ANTM and Cover Girl? While I think Tyra has produced an assortment of winners, after seeing her pick the very unattractive Saleisha, also after favoring her throughout the competition, even though the other two girls in the top three had better runway, photos, etc.

  • Gretchen

I thought all season that Teyona was going to win, though I liked Allison better. I do like how they now do the “CoverGirls in Action” segment where you see what others from past seasons…sorry ‘cycles’…are doing now. So glad to see some of my favorites working all over the world.

  • T-Pain

Agree with the recent comments. This has become the “Tyra Banks’ subjective viewpoint Show” or worse, “the who does Tyra personally want to see succeed more Show”
Her credibility (if she really has any with fashion bookers, and it seems that she does not because many of her “winners” have less than average modelling careers) is sorely damaged with the choices of Teyona and Saleisha. It makes you think the only way those two were going to lose was if they let loose a torrent of expletives at the judges at panel. They were not held to the same standards as their fellow contestants. Allison had better pictures than Teyona. Allison could deliver a commercial, and Teyona gave the most pitiful performance in ANTM history. Allison did a solid runway performance. Teyona was lackluster and boring at the beginning and only did better at the end when she amped it up and twirled her weave in an aggressive bid to outshine Allison when the models were slinking through the mud.

  • Rick Cain

Well on the good side, an ugly girl finally wins something.
