'Lost' finale: Did 'The Incident' blow you away?

Categories: Lost, Reality TV, Television

Lost_lAnd so this is how season 5 ends,…
This whole post is one big SPOILER! Follow it after the jump at your own peril.

…not with a whimper but with tragedy, betrayal, and the I-can’t-believe-they-went-for-it detonation of a40,000 lb. hydrogen bomb named Jughead. "The Incident" rocked androlled me. It also left me just a little riled up: Whaddya mean wegotta wait until next season to see if blowing up the Swan will changehistory?! And ditto on waiting to see if the time traveling pastawaysmade it back to the Island! So end-of-season 1! ARGH! Still, I lovedit. I really did. The first four minutes alone (Jacob! Mr. Nameless!Four Toed has a hippo head!) were enough to make it a classic. Thereveal about who and what John Locke really is — and isn’t — was creepy. And hey: Who out there knows how to speak the language Richard Alpertwas speaking in response to Ilana’s riddle? In other words: Can someoneilluminate me on what he said? Write me at JeffJensenEW@aol.com. WhileI work at the recap, please, start your debating NOW — right after youget a peek at this.

I was literally staring at my TV for a minute and a half in disbelief at the end. A fantastic cliffhanger, and I LOVED the way they gave the Juliet death (??) significance by having her detonate the bomb. That’s damn good storytelling and dramatic structure, right there.

  • melissa

    holy poo.

  • Emmie

Another mind-blowing Lost finale, loved it. So much to digest, looking forward to Doc Jensen’s analysis.

  • Noeladd

Not exactly sure what Richard (or should we call him Ricardus now?) but I’m fairly certain it is Latin. And who/what is this not Locke guy that looks like Locke??? And really we have to wait until January to get any more answers…this has got to be one of the worst cliffhangers ever!

  • DAR

Look nothing will top Season 3’s ending, but this was up there.

  • Adam

So what is Locke anyways? He is dead so who is in the statue thing? that part confused me

  • Hefty517

Mind blown. I haven’t been left so speechless since Michael killed Ana Lucia and Libby. I can’t even decide if I’m happy or pissed yet.

  • Becca

The “Locke” in the statue appeared to be the guy from the opening scene, hence Jacob’s line: “I guess you found your loop hole.” Still not sure what significance he is though, or how he got Locke’s body…

I thoroughly enjoyed the season finale of Lost! I couldn’t help but to notice the lump in my throat with the fate of Juliet down in the well. But where the heck was Desmond and Penny? Nevertheless, fantastic hour of television. !!! :)

  • Teleholic

I’m pretty sure he was speaking in Latin.

  • Alex

    The monster is locke.

  • Matt S.

Excellent finale – Jacob convinced Hurley to come! Rose and Bernard are alive, together, and happy in marital jungle-living bliss! Jacob met all the big players at some point in their lives! Locke isnt Locke! Is Sayid gonna die? Did Juliet even die? WHAT AN ENDING!!! WOW!

  • shawn

the guy in the cabin who said “help me” was the nameless guy from the beginning. he was able to escape his prison somehow.. the gunpowder being open maybe? somehow he took the form of locke and convinced everybody to see jacob so he could do what he’s wanted to do since the black rock era.. kill jacob. thats what i think.. i dont know if thats obvious or not!

  • Jennifer

    Locke 2.0 is Widmore… Somehow

  • JB

I NEVER thought Lost could come close to toping the “flashforward” finale, but this was really close to doing it.
Simply incredible. One of the if not the best series in tv history.

  • Deb

I’m still a little misty. Oh no, not Juliette. Rose and Bernard and Vincent all retired in the jungle! Jacob – we hardly knew you. Looks like Ben is not Jacob’s favorite. So many thoughts in my head. Awesome finale.

  • KrzMiss

Ohhhh Lost you are so cruel to leave us hanging until 2010! :(

  • LockeSquared

WOW!!! Game changer indeed. Locke was just a puppet this whole season. And no way of telling if the time jump worked or not…although I am sure it will. I believe Darlton had all of us duped as well as Doc too. Winter can’t get here fast enough.

  • Rich

Yes, blowing up the Swan will change the future. The war will be between the remaining others and the 70’s survivors and whatever Locke has become. The “they” Jacob said were coming were Jack, Sawyer, Sayid, Hurley, Kate, and Jin. All people visited by him.

  • joe

The last 10mins was a whole Omg Moment love it all

  • Matthew

So they finally show us Jacob….then kill him off in the same episode…..

  • Jesse

A friend of mine proposed the other guy/whoever is in Locke’s body, is possibly Esau, from the bible – Jacob and Esau?
Jacob talks of blessings… my dad, who teaches Sunday school said their conversation at the beginning seemed very biblical, and maybe Ben was like Jobe, doing what he’s supposed to on the island, without a reason why.
WHOOOO! that was an awesome episode!

  • Joanne

For the first time ever, I am VERY upset with Lost. Basically, everyone is dead except for Sun and Ben…until we find out what happened when the bomb went off–in 9 f****** months! I’m sorry, but this sucked the big one.

  • alsofrom

I think it’s all about black and white. Jacob and “the Other at the beginning: Jacob wore white “the Other” wore black. The end sequnce is always a white lost on black. TOnight it was a black lost on white. God and Satan seems too obvious. SOmeone else nees to take it from here (although I think the guy in black was an older Jacob who could not kill himself.)

  • Rich

Doc nailed one aspect. When ghost Claire visited Kate and Aaron and told her “Do not bring him back” she meant Locke, not Aaron.

  • Bill

Call me crazy, but I think the guy imitating Locke is Moses, and all this stuff is old testament style. I say that because Ben says that when Locke asked to see Jacob, he was led there as if he was Moses, or something like that. Plus all the egptian stuff… I don’t know

  • Matthew

….I also think “Locke” is actually Widmore.

  • Jim

Speechless. Everything we could have wanted and more. How they managed to deal with everything, and give answers (to the statue, to how Hurley got back, if Locke is really dead, Rose and Bernard) without answering everything AND bring all of the major characters together at the end. Amazing, Darleton

  • hanna

an AMAZING two hours of television. And I was pleased with the way they carried out Juliet’s death. It was significant and it made sense. Hear me out… from the very first scene with Juliet, Sawyer and Kate in the sub, Juliet looks defeated. As much as she loved Sawyer, his destiny is with Kate. Then later with Rose and Bernard, their story of being with the one you love until death, Juliet looked to Sawyer, only to see him glance over at Kate. Ouch! And with her flashback, her parents loved each-other, but weren’t meant to be, just like her and Sawyer. (Plus, did anyone notice that Juliet was the ONLY character with a flashback that wasn’t touched by Jacob?? (or Jesus, whichever you prefer)) A beautiful and touching final scene with Juliet sacrificing herself by detonating the bomb. She was a great character, and Elizabeth deserves accolades for bringing her to life. RIP Juliet! You will be missed!!

  • alsofrom

Also the only ones who seem to be left are Ben, which is “son of” in Hebrew, and Sun, which is a homonym for…son.
