Confession time: I have absolutely no idea who these Jon and Kate people are or what plus eight they have. Is it eight spider monkeys? Eight chimneys? Eight copies of The Secret? All right, I’m exaggerating — I realize they have eight children. But all of a sudden Jon and Kate are everywhere and I feel like I have missed out on some kind of pop culture phenomenon.
The only hitch? I honestly don’t care. First of all, I stopped watching TLC the first time they got rid of Paige Davis on Trading Spaces; it just felt like a betrayal. Second, watching a show with this many children stresses me out and makes me feel like I’m babysitting. Third (and this one makes me a bad person, I know), I like watching TV shows with younger, attractive people, and judging from the photos of Kate, with her odd wedge cut, female-softball-player-esque hairdo, I think this show falls out of my comfort zone. I liken my avoidance of this show to that of people who stay away from The Hills, one of my personal faves. But I get that it’s not for everyone.
Am I the only one out there who doesn’t care about Jon & Kate Plus 8? Or am I missing out? Speak to me, PopWatchers!

the haircut comment, precious!!!! yeah she looks like a dyke/skunk/woodpeck/hybrid
but i do like the show and i actually really like kate
You’re missing out. The show is addicting and the kids are so adorable. I am not a huge fan of reality TV or TLC but this show is one that I actually watch. Kate can be so mean to Jon and lose her temper quickly, but I would never be able to fill her shoes.
My only use for this show is what Joel McHale gets out of it for The Soup. Beyond that, I couldn’t care less. Can we stop pretending these people are newsworthy now?
This article hit the nail on the head !! Who the hell are these people and why would anyone care?? TLC plays constantly on the tvs at my gym and it’s always either these two wannabes or women in labour in delivery rooms…
Amen! I don’t get them at all. And I care even less about them now that they’re tabloid fixtures and supposedly cheating on each other.
As a stay at home mom of two boys, I can think of millions of other ways I’d rather spend a spare hour, like, I don’t know, maybe spending time with my own kids. Call me crazy. Then again, I hate reality tv.
I’m not into John Kate or their 8 kids either. I don’t get the phenomenon of these reality show about mega families. I feel as though they can’t afford their kids and the show is what sustains them. I know the parents work but there isn’t any job that can pay thows bills.
Its kind of offensive in a way also. Not that its a racial or socio/economical thing but would there be a show about poor, or minority or poor and minority mega families? I’m thinking not.
I absolutely agree that I could care less about this show. Screaming children? No thank you. Which is why I don’t watch any of those wife trade or nanny shows either. And no, not watching because you like watching shows about young attractive people doesn’t make you a bad person, it just makes you EVIL. I’d watch an hour of the golden girls over the hills any day.
holler! this show is wack! but sorry, so is The Hills!
My favorite discription of Kate’s hair EVER! Thanks!
Wow, I thought I was the only one who didn’t watch the show and didn’t care about their infidelities. The only reason I have ever heard of them is when “The Soup” makes fun of them.
I am a fan of Jon and Kate plus 8. I think they are an adorable family and I found it interesting how they coped with so many children. It is a shame that their personal life has become tabloid-worthy but I do hope they find the strength come out of this and to put their children’s interest first.
Hillarious post. Even being a mother and over 40 I don’t consider entertainment watching a couple take care of 8 children. Jon is not even attractive, Kate sounds like a bey-otch…
um i guess i’m a bad person too because i’ve been ragging on kate’s hair for a loooong time…seriously what is that wedge in the front? and then the back spiky-ness?!? also, i stopped watching trading spaces after they got rid of alex the first host way back in the day
Tim, I feel this way about 1 out of every 3 PopWatch posts.
