Confession time: I have absolutely no idea who these Jon and Kate people are or what plus eight they have. Is it eight spider monkeys? Eight chimneys? Eight copies of The Secret? All right, I’m exaggerating — I realize they have eight children. But all of a sudden Jon and Kate are everywhere and I feel like I have missed out on some kind of pop culture phenomenon.
The only hitch? I honestly don’t care. First of all, I stopped watching TLC the first time they got rid of Paige Davis on Trading Spaces; it just felt like a betrayal. Second, watching a show with this many children stresses me out and makes me feel like I’m babysitting. Third (and this one makes me a bad person, I know), I like watching TV shows with younger, attractive people, and judging from the photos of Kate, with her odd wedge cut, female-softball-player-esque hairdo, I think this show falls out of my comfort zone. I liken my avoidance of this show to that of people who stay away from The Hills, one of my personal faves. But I get that it’s not for everyone.
Am I the only one out there who doesn’t care about Jon & Kate Plus 8? Or am I missing out? Speak to me, PopWatchers!

the haircut comment, precious!!!! yeah she looks like a dyke/skunk/woodpeck/hybrid
but i do like the show and i actually really like kate
You’re missing out. The show is addicting and the kids are so adorable. I am not a huge fan of reality TV or TLC but this show is one that I actually watch. Kate can be so mean to Jon and lose her temper quickly, but I would never be able to fill her shoes.
My only use for this show is what Joel McHale gets out of it for The Soup. Beyond that, I couldn’t care less. Can we stop pretending these people are newsworthy now?
This article hit the nail on the head !! Who the hell are these people and why would anyone care?? TLC plays constantly on the tvs at my gym and it’s always either these two wannabes or women in labour in delivery rooms…
Amen! I don’t get them at all. And I care even less about them now that they’re tabloid fixtures and supposedly cheating on each other.
As a stay at home mom of two boys, I can think of millions of other ways I’d rather spend a spare hour, like, I don’t know, maybe spending time with my own kids. Call me crazy. Then again, I hate reality tv.
I’m not into John Kate or their 8 kids either. I don’t get the phenomenon of these reality show about mega families. I feel as though they can’t afford their kids and the show is what sustains them. I know the parents work but there isn’t any job that can pay thows bills.
Its kind of offensive in a way also. Not that its a racial or socio/economical thing but would there be a show about poor, or minority or poor and minority mega families? I’m thinking not.
I absolutely agree that I could care less about this show. Screaming children? No thank you. Which is why I don’t watch any of those wife trade or nanny shows either. And no, not watching because you like watching shows about young attractive people doesn’t make you a bad person, it just makes you EVIL. I’d watch an hour of the golden girls over the hills any day.
holler! this show is wack! but sorry, so is The Hills!
My favorite discription of Kate’s hair EVER! Thanks!
Wow, I thought I was the only one who didn’t watch the show and didn’t care about their infidelities. The only reason I have ever heard of them is when “The Soup” makes fun of them.
I am a fan of Jon and Kate plus 8. I think they are an adorable family and I found it interesting how they coped with so many children. It is a shame that their personal life has become tabloid-worthy but I do hope they find the strength come out of this and to put their children’s interest first.
Hillarious post. Even being a mother and over 40 I don’t consider entertainment watching a couple take care of 8 children. Jon is not even attractive, Kate sounds like a bey-otch…
um i guess i’m a bad person too because i’ve been ragging on kate’s hair for a loooong time…seriously what is that wedge in the front? and then the back spiky-ness?!? also, i stopped watching trading spaces after they got rid of alex the first host way back in the day
Tim, I feel this way about 1 out of every 3 PopWatch posts.
Seeriously, what is up wth that hair? Anyway, these two just look exhausted an miserable and should probably ditch the whole reality T.V. in exchange for something that resembles a real life.
As a side comment, you can tell how Jon couldn’t care less about Kate on that picture. She’s hugging him hard while he looks like he’s daydreaming about somebody else.
Tim, Tim, Tim…you are a sad little man…you don’t have to like every show on tv…and you don’t have to be ugly about the ones you don’t understand or like…just turn it off and talk about something else…
Speak from experience as a mother of an amount of children more than eight–the couple of times I have caught the show has made me wonder when the kids get a break, their house is the stage and they seem to be on it 24/7. No thank you.
As for the popularity of the show, people seem fixated on anything different than their own life–whether sports figures, superstars, lots of children, small people, you name it.
But really people, STOP WATCHING SHOWS LIKE THIS. There should be laws against this for the children’s sake. We assume by the plush lifestyle that the kids are not seeing any if much of the money they work so hard for (grandma, aunt, someone do they have massive trusts for these kids?), and for them donating some of the money to churches and charities-pat themselves on the back that is what they should be doing anyway.
Jon and Kate get a job, each of you that has nothing to do with the number of children you have and then manage your life around that money- that is reality!!!!!
So… let me get this straight… Tom, you write an article about people you don’t know anything about, nor do you care for them. What is the point then? Why are you wasting time and energy. Don’t even bother if all you’re doing is starting an online discussion, in which you know all it will do is stir up controversy between people. ONe group we’ll say these people are awful, one will say they’re amazing. All this does is get people divided. What a useless article by a useless writer.
The hair comment is right on.. I watched the show but its getting old.. same ole stuff each time.. her cutting John down and being her normal beeeyotchy self..You think making 75k a show she do something with that hair.
Oh lets not forget that they got their house for FREE!!!
Gee, amazing how many people dislike the show, but still want to comment on it. If you don’t like it…USE YOUR REMOTE CONTROL. I do like it and I imagine Kate has the hairdo because its easy to keep with having little time for herself.
Ha! I totally agree! I had never heard of these people until they started popping up everywhere with rumors that one of them is cheating on the other. Who are they? Why do they have their own show?
Ok well, if you dont like the show, change the channel. You shouldnt go aroung jugding people buy the way they look. Youre probably some fat old man with a smelly old cat thats as ugly as you. Having 6 more kids was unintentional so at least they are taking care of them. Tim, you really must have some guts for saying that. I bet your Iq is no larger than your shoe size (7 right?) so how would you even know how to take care of anyone, im surprised that cat of yours hasnt died. Alot people enjoy watching the show if you dont like it, use your small pea brain and um DONT WATCH IT THEN! gosh its just that easy genius
I totally agree, I’ve been wondering who these people on the news were for a couple of weeks, and why everyone thought I should care about it. Publicity wise whatever happend seems to have been a good idea. But I still don’t care.
Hilarious. Who cares about these two 15 mins of famers! I had no idea who the press was making so much fuss about. After soooo much coverage I had to ask. I now roll my eyes every time I hear of them. I cannot believe this passes as entertainment in the 21st Century.
I watched the first 2 seasons and loved it but after that it was special trip episodes. It became less about the daily lives of raising eight kids and more about making a tv show. To me it lost all its realness. So no your not missing anything.
HAHAHAH!!!! LOL LOL LOL!!!!
. I Heart your comment. Thanks, I needed a good laugh.
I think they are the new brady bunch! http://cutejewishsingles.com
