Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine’s obligatory yet clueless allusions to such insidery Star Trek things as "the fascinating Pon Farr ritual" on Saturday Night Live’s "Weekend Update" is remarkably akin to what I’m doing right now: attempting to write a blog item about a franchise I knew very little about until I saw it this weekend. But it no longer has to be that way. We all loved the movie. We all have a right to talk about Star Trek!
I’d like to report that thanks to Zachary Quinto’s relentless Zachary Quinto-ness, I just had my second sexual fantasy about Spock. Trust me, it’s even more awkward when it happens in the office. When Michael Slezak came by a few minutes ago for a mini Kit Kat, I took off my glasses to make everything suitably blurry before attempting to give him some light verbal direction. "Act less human…Don’t smile…Stand on this footstool…You’re in space. Be in space…Why aren’t you in space? Will you please just diagonalize your f—ing eyebrows?" It was a little like the horribly misguided G.O.B./Kitty sex scene in Arrested Development. ("Glasses off, hair up! Ugh, glasses on!") Alas, it wasn’t working. For so many reasons. Damn him.
Please share your own inappropriate thoughts about Spock.

Um, Annie… I don’t know how to break this to you… I think Quinto and Slezak might have more in common than you realize. Did you SEE Quinto’s hair in that SNL clip? No way does he bat for the Away team (pun intended).
Fully aware!
It’s just TOO horrible. They got the food ALL wrong!

So is this a rumor or a fact *please be bi* *please be bi* ??
Um, YEAH. I thought I was the only one dreaming of Spock last night. HOT.
I too have wanted to do inappropriate things with Spock 2k9…is there something wrong with us?
Sorry, I just wanted to comment how funny I found this. “Be in space…why aren’t you in space?” Classic.
I’m in complete denial about Quinto’s sexuality. Pics or it didn’t happen folks. Let me at least fantasize that I have a shot with him.
To Tim G: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! First Adam Lambert, now Zachary Quinto? FML.
I really, really had naughty thoughts about Spock after seeing the movie, too. Wow.
Regardless of his orientation, Quinto is extremley hot, and he brings that to Spock V2.0 as well.
Are you guys Real !!!.
That was the worst Star Trek episode/ Movie I have seen. They have made a mockery of Gene Roddenberry’s creative thinking.
I’ve been having those fantasies for *years* And even if Quinto is gay, it doesn’t mean that he’s not still hot. There are a lot of out actors who are just plain hot to us hetero girls (and not in a “gay best friend” kind of way).
Couldn’t care less about Zach Quinto’s sexuality — whatever makes him happy is fine by me. But I have been having the naughty Spock thoughts ever since I saw the movie Saturday night. Must see the movie again to have more.
When you say Star Trek is for everyone, and underscore this with airheaded comments about how “hot” Spock is, I think what you mean to say is:
“The new Star Trek movie is slick and stupid enough for shallow people to like, too! Yay! Us airheaded ditzes finally get the dumbed-down version with the pretty-people actors!” Right?
These “nooo, he can’t be gay!” comments make me laugh. Yeah, because otherwise you’d totally have a shot with him. LOL.
Guys, if you care about Zachary as a person, set aside your personal expectations and just hope that he finds happiness with someone special. Whether that individual be male or female.
I’m a sucker for half humans who beat up on people who insult their mothers, what can I say? HOTTTTTT.
i can’t believe you get paid for writing this kind of crap.
I have to say despite all the fan girls (and boys) going crazy over the looks of the characters I was most impressed with Dr. McCoy’s portrayal. He was amazingly like the original in his acting and lines. Bravo Zulu. And while yes this movie may be for everyone it still helps to know all the characters. Seeing the similarities between the generations is one of the things that makes the movie great. So if you are a loser kind of dork and have never watched the original series I suggest you do. I watched it as a little girl and re-watching never gets old!

Zachary Quinto is sooooo freakin’ hot. I agree!!! He looked super hot on SNL. Cannot wait to see Star Trek, and I’ve never seen one episode!
Here’s the Spock I saw: A Vulcan that has sexual thoughts (impossible EXCEPT during PON FAR). A Vulcan that can be stone cold and a commander after watching his mother falling from his arms and burned to a crisp in his exploding planet, but falls for “the girl who doesn’t tell her name unless she f*9ks you?” Vulcans are supposed to be EMOTIONLESS. And the only effect of Vulcan being destroyed? To make Spock angry enough that he needs to take a rest??? It seems logical to attack Kirk: he’s a stowe-away, who through some trick technicality, has taken over a position that Spock has clearly spent longer then Kirk has been alive working for! How obscene! Kirk in the original series geek-history speaking) didn’t just get a command, he was a junior officer under Pike for years! Spock ditching him on an ice planet??? WTH?! Spock is characterized as “reactive” and “emotional.” That’s ALL WRONG. JJ Abrams must have never watched the TV show. You gals didn’t see the real Spock.
I thought it was funny Annie. Don’t be sad. Reminded me of a Wheadon script. He’s funny too
Spock is hot as all get out; he always has been. I’ve had a crush on him since I was a kid. But Zachary Quinto has re-ignited my love for Spock in a way more powerful than I had anticipated. He’s the main reason I’ve seen the movie three times now. I wish I was Uhura.
Uh, Matt? I’ve thought Spock was hot since 1976. Friday night, even more so. Maybe YOU need some dumbed-down version. What I saw last night just reinforced my love of TOS over all else.

Agree 100% that Spock was totally hot in this. Was i expecting SPOCK to get the girl? Of course not, which made it all the better. Spock = hoT. mccoy = rad. kirk = not bad.
Owl only has it partially right. Spock is 1/2 human. This is the adolescent Spock struggling with his Vulcan and Human sides so he has emotion because he has not yet chosen to go with the Vulcan side. There have been times in past series when Spock has struggled with his human side.
Hey Owl, how old are you? Do you remember when you were young and stupid and your rational control only half-formed at aged 18? (Or are you that now, perhaps?) Do you know anyone who, at a young age, was angry and confused and acting-out over being born of two races/cultures? Look around you. Someone at 20 is a WORLD of different than someone at 30. And yeah, I was around for the TOS. Spock was, and is, still hot – please notice that while Kirk got all the typical squeezes, Spock ended up with all the hot ‘bad girls’ – up to and including on-screen bedroom antics with an enemy commander! So, um, I guess your point is…?
It is great that an out gay actor like Zach can play a hetero-alien like Spock.
I love all of these Star Trek Reboot haters. They claim that the new version is dumbed down…COME ON!!! Star Trek was an enjoyable show that pushed the boundaries in terms of race and sex. But, it was more often than not SILLY…enjoyable but silly. Stop trying to make it something that it never was. The “science” of Star Trek was often laughable, but they used those sci-fi trappings to tell compelling (and FUN) stories about people and how we react to one another…which is EXACTLY what the new film shoots for and achieves (something that hasn’t been accomplished in the Star Trek universe in over 10 years). The Next Generation show/movies devolved into silly Data-makes-a-funny territory and, as a result, this reboot became necessary. And d@mn if it isn’t AWESOME.
