I did see the movie. It reminds me of that dialogue in a old "Seinfeld" episode that went something like this:

Jerry: You know, I felt like I was in one of those "Twilight Zone" episodes where I woke up and everyone was different but me!
George: Which one was that?
Jerry: I don't know--they're all like that.

It's the same with a Woody Allen movie. His movies are always entertaining, but you get pretty much the same story and characters all the time--which is Woody in a therapy session.

That was definitely a mentor-mentee relationship going on there, no where was it implied that its romantic. I think you need to reexamine your snap judgement and what in the world would have made you think otherwise.

now that woody is in his (self-assessed) dotage, it seems he's hired the nearest thing to himself (larry david) to play himself. but larry's only good for, what? another ten years? then larry's an old guy. then woody'll have to find another neurotic schlimiel to play him. not that there's anything wrong with that. the neuro-pathetic character is pretty durable. woody got it from bob hope and has worked it for all it's worth for what? 50 years?
woody's what? 73? he'll be writing this stuff 'til he's what? 95? so we might as well get comfortable..
hey, at least he finally changed the title graphics font from souvenier book to what appears to be avant garde light. big step for the old boy.

As an avid Woody Allen fan, I'm not ready to dismiss the film just yet. The trailer might be, as a whole, disjointed, but I'd argue that there are a couple laugh-worthy moments. Ultimately, I think the film is going to appeal to fans of Curb Your Enthusiasm and those of us who adore Allen despite the few poor films he's made. I'll agree that the romantic pairing of Larry David and Evan Rachel Wood is odd. But Allen's own romantic life is also somewhat strange. Even if Whatever Works isn't as good as last year's Vicky Cristina Barcelona, we've got to cut Allen a little slack. He's made a film every year since 1970: not all of them will be Annie Hall brilliant.

Sorry, Jeremy, I don't see anything other than a "let's learn from our monumental age and cultural differences" friendship - if it is sexual in nature I'd never know it from the trailer. What does irk me is the waste of Larry David as yet another Allen stand-in (the most bizarre has to be Kenneth Brannagh in "Celebrity"). It appears the only time a male character can do anything other than the Allen Schtick is if Allen himself is in the film doing it - otherwise they're quickly relegated to the neurotic, curmudgeonly, death-obsessed Allen wannabee. Yawn.

I never liked that Woody Allen. Now, as a romance author with a newly published book, I suppose it would be remiss of me (being a writer and all) not to mention downright cruel, if I didn't take a moment to tell you all about it!
Samantha (Sam to her friends) Atkins grew up in a one-horse town whose citizens fought constantly about who would get to ride the horse. Full of pluck and general vivacity, we follow Sam's unconventional life as she cures the common cold, saws a woman in half, and invents the cotton gin.
Still, her love life is as troubled as her professional one is charmed. Her first husband is Ed, a shiftless no-good layabout whose idea of fun is burning ants with a magnifying glass. After Ed came Tom, a circus freak who weighed 1,200 pounds. "It takes 10 girls to hug him and a boxcar to lug him!" the advertisements would cry when the circus came to town.
Still, Tom left her with two beautiful daughters to raise on her own, Obnoxia and Irritatum (etc, ad nauseum)...
