A couple of days ago, I said I wanted Scrubs to call it quits. After last night’s finale, I want that even more. I’m totally still crying.
Yep, here come the water works. I can’t imagine a better ending for this show: Earnestly sentimental but not gruesomely corny. In quintessential Scrubs fashion, the episode acknowledged that sometimes awful things happen — like your mom dying — and that a lot of that pain stays with us: J.D.’s victory walk including appearances from the ghosts of Laverne, Mrs. Wilk, Jill (Nicole Sullivan,), and Mrs. Tanner (Kathryn Joosten, whose "My Old Lady" and "My First Kill" appearances are what made me first fall in love with this show) (still crying). But understanding and experiencing that suffering isn’t the same thing as being defined by it: Is there anyone more resilient than J.D., who despite everything still thinks this time, his fantasies could come true?
I’m over the moon for this episode. What’d you think, PopWatchers?

PERFECT!
I absolutely loved it, and I think the show should ride the high and call it quits.
it was perfect!
Will you pass me a Kleenex, please? I’m blubbering right next to you. I saw Mr. Tanner and that’s when I personally lost it. That is, until I saw Hooch (Hooch IS crazy!!). That’s what I loved about this series: the perfect mix of slapstick and sentimentality. Loved the Bill Lawrence cameo at the end. Also, put me under the “This episode is the Series Finale” column. And thanks for the memories!
Beautiful episode. One of the greatest series finales ever, and as much as I love this show it better end here, because I can’t fathom how it could top this last episode.
oh and by the way HOOCH IS CRAZY (my favorite running bit of the whole series).
10/10, brilliant work.
I really enjoyed the episode. The ending was really cool and interesting with the old film footage. I also liked how Bill Lawrence was the one who ripped down the giant banner and said good night to J.D. for the last time. I also liked how all those people showed up for the end. My favorite guest? “Hooch IS crazy!” That was priceless. Very sad to see it go.
However! This better be the last episode. Don’t drag the show on longer. It deserves better!
Totally perfect, but cmon ew where was the love for the end of Scrubs, I know ken tucker gave the episode an A but what no photo gallery of the best scrubs moments? best scrubs side characters? The show has unfairly been cast to the side, even though, as it showed last night, it went out in top form
where was Michael J Fox!? Last summer various websites said he’d be back for the final season of Scrubs!!!
We still have no idea what the Janitor’s real name is.
Totally, totally, TOTALLY perfect!!!
Damn it now I’m crying! I’ll miss this show.
What a perfect way to end the show–one of the best series finales I’ve ever seen. I hope this really is the last word from Scrubs, because it went out in such a beautiful fashion: no hysterics, but a heartfelt sense that despite loss and change, life and love both go on. This show was so underrated for its entire run, but its perfect blend of wacky comedy and total honesty is what sitcom writers should be aspiring to now.
A couple of days ago, I disagreed with you, thinking that this show started with relatively unknown actors and could continue with this new group of interns. The show’s quirky nature could sustain it into the future. But now, after last night’s spectacular finale, I’m in total agreement with you. What a perfect way to end it with that walk through the past and then the glimpse into the future.
great final episode, but I think it could continue without Zack Braff.
I know his character is the heart of the show, but Zack phoned in the last two seasons acting wise.
GREAT finale. Definately better than last seasons would-have-been finale. I hope the show ends here. It will be missed, but it’s time.
The finale was perfect! Absolutely one of the best series finales (maybe?) ever. However, I am seriously surprised at the lack of EW coverage as other people pointed out. While Lyons did sum it up well, I wanted to read more. A proper recap perhaps or some memorable moments. Why ignore such a wonderful TV moment? Isn’t this what EW is for?
I completely agree – word for word. This was one of the best series (I hope) finales I’ve seen. Let Scrubs end on a high note.
Hooch is crazy. Perfect!
It was WONDERFUL. One of my favorite finales!
The janitor’s name was revealed–he is Glen Matthews.
Yes, we DID find out what the Janitor’s name was. Although he told JD it was “Glenn,” right after JD walked away, someone called out to the Janitor, “Hi, Tony.”
I couldn’t believe it when Tom Cavanagh suddenly appeared (as JD’s brother), and then all those other past characters created a literal gauntlet of memories. It was moving for JD, and SO meaningful to all of the viewers who’ve loved this show through the years. (Did any other Days of Our Lives viewers catch the quick glimpse of Jay Kenneth Johnson, who played JD’s & Kim’s obstetrician?)
In a word, the finale was PERFECT.
I thought the finale was perfect, and I was totally crying at the end too. Loved seeing Lonny again!
Scrubs Finale was responsible for my foul mood this morning, because I stayed up until 3:00 am watching season 8 episodes that I missed before catching the Finale. Wonderful way to go, loved that JD finally heard Perry’s real thoughts, and wish that this wonderful series had been better supported. I’ll really miss it, but am glad to have been part of the ride.
It was absolutely perfect! I’m still crying as well. It made me cry even more than the Friends finale. So completely beautiful. One of my top 5 favorite shows of all time, and it should call it a day. Scrubs without JD is Scrubs in name only. A perfect ending is hard to come by, and this show had one.
Sure it was perfect, but only if you force yourself to ignore some major events in the show’s history that the producers clearly would like you to forget. How emotional can they expect the audience to get over J.D. imagining his future family with Elliot when there’s that elephant-in-the-room little factoid that has been completely washed over this past season: HE ALREADY HAS A KID! J.D. ALREADY IS A FATHER! Such a huge moment in a person’s life was placed firmly in the background these past two seasons. Clearly, the writers and producers regret giving J.D. that life-changing moment when they did. It’s been hard to enjoy the show considering the way they’ve subsequently handled that event.
Scrubs is a show that grew up with me. It started the fall after I graduated from college. I feel like it captured what is to grow and be an adult, much like Felicity was accurate depiction of college life. Being an adult does not happen with a snap of the fingers. I will miss this show, it is one of the few that will resonant with me personally. The ending was perfect. It was poignant and it felt like an old friend was saying goodbye.
Absolutely perfect. Without a doubt. I’m 31 and actually had tears in my eyes during the last 15 minutes of it.
Before last night’s finale I was kind of hoping we’d see it continue on in some fashion but after that brilliant finale it really needs to end there. You always want your series to end on a high note and Scrubs just defined how you do that.
If Bill Lawrence brings back the show for a ninth season, he is an idiot. Let the 8th season be the last.
The ending was pitch perfect! I’m tearing up right now just thinking about it. I started welling up when JD gave Cox the book of rants, and the damn broke once JD had his moment with Carla. What an ending…
@Jake – what the heck are you talking about? Do you even watch this show? Sammy has been on the show and mentioned a lot – he’s the reason JD is leaving the hospital.
Peter Gabriel + Magnetic Fields = Niagara Falls.
They didn’t ignore JD’s kid. Turk and Carla’s daughter is the same age as JD’s son and they showed them older and engaged. JD’s hypothetical baby with Elliot was a female.
I don’t think this is the last season. They have said three different years that the season finale was the series finale and it hasn’t happened yet. It always shows up in different spots or season schedulings later.
