Farrah Franklin — formerly of short-lived fame as a member of uber-successful girl group Destiny’s Child — has been found! She (super randomly) turned up in last week’s episode of Bravo’s delightful dating show for rich people, Millionaire Matchmaker. (Also questionable: The fact that Franklin has a million dollars in her bank account, but that’s a different blog post.)
And what do you know? Nine years after being booted from the group for missing major concert dates, Franklin is still being a diva, showing up to her Patti Stanger-arranged date four hours late. Not four minutes or even 40 minutes. Four hours. See Patti give it to her good here:
You know what they say: Once a diva, always a diva. (Or maybe I just say that.) Guess Matt Knowles (Beyoncé’s dad) was justified in booting her from the group, then? So much more is illuminated now — that’s just the amazing power of Millionaire Matchmaker, I guess.
I’d always, always wondered about those ex-members of Destiny’sChild. You know, Franklin, along with original membersLeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson — the ones who were cast away as the grouprose to fame. Because, honestly, their lives must now be tragic. Theymust kick themselves every day, wishing they hadn’t questioned QueenBeyoncé and been taken out with the garbage.
Think about it this way: Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams — whowere actually in the group when it disbanded — are doing alright.Rowland hosts Bravo’s new Project Runway wannabe The Fashion Show, which debuts tonight, and Williams had an album last year and guest-judged on RuPaul’s Drag Race earlier this year. Not bad, sure, but they still live in the titan-sized shadow of superstar Beyoncé. Luckett, Roberson, and Franklin? They’re so far below all that. See: Millionare Matchmaker from last week.

letoya luckett had a successful r&b album last year that was critically acclaimed. while it may be nowhere near the success beyonce has had just remember… britney spears has sold more records than just about any talented artist to come out.
Sometimes I wonder who writes these columns. To suggest that someone should have rode the wave despite the fact that you had to live in the shadow of a group member, well, that just says the “i” in team is alive and well. Contrary to your supposed “where are they now”, LaToya Luckett is doing just fine. She is working on her second solo cd and she owns an upscale clothing boutique. She did this without riding Beyonce’s DC coat tails. She and Roberson were “cast away” only after they questioned the management tactics of a certain DIVA’s daddy. Those who stayed- both Kelly and Michelle have suffered being in the shadows. Neither has been a hit solo. Kelly JUST GOT the job on Bravo and her solo cd flopped. Michelle has a role in the stage version of The Color Purple and her solo project wasn’t a big hit either. Neither are bringing in the $$ of Beyonce but they are making a living for themselves without the benefit of having daddy make sure they got the most screen time, roles, etc despite the fact he is supposed to be manager to them all. It’s an unfortunate situation for all whom have suffered the group curse of DC. Together they’re all great, and according to writers like you- without Beyonce they are nothing.

I’m craving a juicy tell all book from one of the ousted ladies of Destiny’s Child because you know Papa Knowles is nuts and I haven’t heard the nicest things about Ms B either.
FIRST OF ALL…LeToya and Latavia were not “cast away”…they left. Watch the Hollywood Stories on E! and the Where are they now special on E! SECOND OF ALL…LeToya released her album in 2006..it was #1….NUMBER ONE…on the BILLBOARD HOT 200 CHARTS and the BILLBOARD R&B ALBUM charts….her album has been CERTIFIED PLATINUM…she has TWO upscale boutique stores in Houston that has been in business for more than SIX YEARS…She had the #1…NUMBER ONE single “Torn”. She has her SECOND ALBUM coming out this summer and her new single “NOT ANYMORE” is burning up the charts, with ALOT OF BUZZ of her potential second single “She ain’t got sh*t on me”. LeToya has a movie coming out in September called the “Preacher’s Kid” where she is the LEAD ACTRESS…and she will be filming “5 KILLERS” with Katherine Heigl and Ashton Kutcher in JUNE. LETOYA is going fine. I don’t know about Farrah, but I know she has production companies…which is something in itself. Latavia is working on breaking in the industry as well, and I am sure as most people know…she has a HEFTY settlement from Destiny’s Child and She AND LeToya were being paid AFTER they left…GEt your facts straight!

1. LeToya Luckett released a self-titled solo album in 2006, which debuted at # 1 and went on to achieve platinum status. Her single “Torn” was one of the most successful singles of that year as well. She was a part of a major tour; the opening act for Mary J. Blige(only one of the most successful R&B vocalist of this generation).
2. Six years ago, Luckett started her own business: Lady Elle–a thriving lady’s boutique in Houston, Texas. A second store was opened late last year.
3. Like her former bandmate Beyonce, LeToya will be hitting the big screen this year. She has a role in Ashton Kutcher’s forthcoming film “Five Killers” and a lead vehicle all her own “The Preacher’s Kid”–coming in September.

Whoever posted this article is an idiot. All of the former members, Kelly, Michelle, LeToya, and Latavia are doing just fine. I don’t know about Farrah cause she wasn’t in the group for a long time…not even a year
I see all these essays, let’s keep it simple: for a column that calls itself Pop Watch, you should be a bit embarrassed cause it’s not hard to know that in 2006 LeToya became the second member of Destiny’s Child to land a solo #1 album on the Billboard Hot 200 Albums. She is also the only member besides Beyoncé to have an album certified Platinum by the RIAA. I think that speaks for itself.
This is info that anybody with internet can access through Google and/or Wikipedia. Or maybe logging into Billboard’s website. I think maybe you should wonder if Journalism is really your true calling…

That’s not the point as to whether she is less then Beyonce in the pop culture world. It’s a matter of you all needing to get your facts correct. LeToya is def. on her way so when she does get there I want a whole new “ESSAY” about how far she has come and where she is going in the “pop culture”. And her name is LeToya not LaToya. Spell the name correct suzan.

Susan you are right, maybe she is not well known in pop culture, but the column suggests that she is “kicking herself every day” for leaving the group when that is not the case. I am sure of this. Everytime a Destiny’s Child song is played, LeToya gets paid. She was mostly rated highly in Urban music and I will admit she did not cross over to mainstream pop culture, but this author needs to not suggest that she’s fallen by the wayside doing nothing with her life. She is a major artist on Captiol Record’s roster. Maybe with this album she will cross over. We will see. But stop making it seem that LeToya (let’s spell her name right please) and other former DC members are trash and pinning away to be on Beyonce’s status. None of them are, and none are indicating to do so.
