Sometimes, it hurts to care: Like when you see the gallery of new Sherlock Holmes images USA Today has posted in May, and the movie doesn’t hit theaters until Christimas. If that previously released shirtless shot of Robert Downey Jr.’s detective didn’t make you want to see the film, this new peek at the Guy Ritchie-directed movie, which costars Jude Law as Dr. Watson and Rachel McAdams as Irene Adler, should do the trick. We learn that:
• Holmes has mad bartitsu skills. "It’s a kind of Japanese street fighting," Ritchie explained. "It uses walking sticks, bowler hats, choke holds to put people to sleep — any practical means possible."
• Holmes’ fashion sense has improved. Downey was passionate about picking his own Fedora (pictured, after the jump). Which is why we love him.
• There’s a "harrowing sequence inside a pig slaughterhouse." The phrase horrifying but hyponotic comes to mind…
• Law’s Watson is smarter, funnier, and torn between his fiancée and his friend, who needs him to remember to bring the pistols and make sure that they are loaded. Victorian bromance!
• Holmes’ foe is a Lord and "an occult-dabbling Satanist."
• McAdams’ Adler tricks Holmes into being handcufffed to a bed.
Looks really really good, but Hugh Laurie would of been awesome for that role! (and ironic)

Yepers, this has made my “must see in a theatre” list.
I am REALLY eager to see this movie–don’t know how I feel about bringing in Irene Adler in a sidekick role, though. Holmes admired Adler, but didn’t love her. I get kinda unnerved with the idea of changing Holmes THAT much.
Mmmmm…RDJ as Sherlock Holmes…can I please have him? I’ve always had a thing for both of them. Or maybe I could just be magically turned into Rachel McAdams; that wouldn’t be so bad.
I can’t wait to see this movie it sounds exciting!I really think Robert Downey Jr. was a fantastic choice for the role.He holds a black sash in Wing Chun Kung-Fu(which is a type of street fighting martial arts).He is also a trained swordsman and stickfighter.His teacher Eric Oram was the Martial Arts expert on the film.Robert Downey Jr. also does most of his own stunts.Anyone else would have had to train or gotten stunt men for eveything.(I really appreciate a movie more, if I actually get to see the lead actor perform everything the character he’s playing can do). I like Hugh Laurie too, but I don’t think he’s a master of martial arts, a swordsman or a stickfighter. That would have presented a problem. Christian Bale is also a Wing Chun Kung-Fu martial artist. He and Robert Downey Jr. both were trained by Eric Oram.They both do alot of their own stunt work and are great to watch.I think Robert Downey Jr. will be fantastic.He is a talented, gifted actor. I can’t wait to see this!!!!!
Erika, there was no mention of Irene Adler as a “sidekick” in the post, so maybe you don’t have to be too unnerved.
Seriously, they couldn’t have had the “harrowing sequence” somewhere other than a slaughterhouse? That location was so necessary to the plot? Well, I was looking forward to this movie. Not now. Thanks for the advance warning, at least.
