'How I Met Your Mother'= off-the-charts awesome

Filed under: About Last Night and tagged:

How I Met Your Mother was in top form last night, heading into its season-home-stretch with an episode so funny I almost didn’t miss Lily. (Almost.) There are few faster ways to my heart than jokes about former Yankees, but one is chart humor. And the best part of last night’s ep was definitely, definitely its chart humor:

The pie chart/bar graph one is my favorite, but the dirty presidents is a close second. How about you, PW nation?

A few updated spoiler-y (only if you haven’t seen last night’s) thoughts after the jump….

Our own Michael Ausiello has Carter Bays’take on last night "reveal," but… I thought the "Shelter Island" episode did a pretty good job of making it clear that Stella’s not the mom. Recall the blond kids in the flashforward — you know, the blond kids we know Ted doesn’t have? Anyway, I’d rather see another amazing slap than find out who the mother is.

How can you skip over the Simon-Garfunkel inspired “Cecilia” Venn diagram?
One circle “she’s breaking my heart”, the other “she’s shaking my confidence daily”, and in the middle? Cecilia.

good ep, but not sure i’m liking the ending. really? (don’t want to SPOILER it for anyone who hasn’t seen)

yeah, I was quite upset over the ending….please tell me it’s not so!!!!!!!!!!!!

The woman at the end isn’t “Your Mother”. Its gonna be a friend of hers, who originally owned the yellow umbrella.

I loved the ep last night. The show synopsis ruined who was going to meet Ted though- that and TV Guide. I didn’t miss Lily as much as I thought I would, and I can’t wait to see how Barney pursues Robin!!

  • Laura

I agree with JohnO. It’s been said in past eps that this woman is not their mother.

Not to spoil, but I think the ending was really stupid. Yahoo has already gone and proclaimed that she is the mother, but I really, really hope not.

  • Shedagurl

Yeah, the Cecilia chart was too funny.

I agree with JohnO. That woman is not the mother (I’m pretty sure that was confirmed by the narration in an earlier episode). It will turn out to be his reaction to the chance meeting with her that causes him to stop sleepwalking through life.

JohnO: Are you blind? Or lacking in long-term memory? As soon as Ted picked up the umbrella, HIMYM-fans knew what was coming. And a lovely twist it is!

Chaddog – you are SO RIGHT – that was definitely the best chart!!!

Funny, sure. But why is nobody talking about Sarah Chalke being revealed as the “Mother”?!?

  • MKS

HIMYM definitely was in top form! The blatant pregnant jokes, the charts, the return of the Intervention, and all those twists and turns made for one hilarious episode, perhaps one of the funniest this season. CBS needs to renew it already!

Sarah Chalke is not the mother… I think Ted will meet the “mother” thru Stella.
