Today, MTV announced that season 5 of The Hills will air on the network this fall — sans its narrator, Lauren Conrad. (The show’s other cast members, however, will be returning.) The young starlet/fashion designer has been hinting at leaving the show for what seems like eons.
But now that she’s officially ditching her vehicle, I can’t help but feel a little disappointed. True, her narrative was going nowhere. And true, it will be easier to take her seriously as a bona fide designer when she’s not forced de-lobotomize Audrina from week-to-week by switching on her "on" button. But Lauren, along with BFF Lo, did manage to bring a bit of sanity and, dare I say, realism to a show that’s as plastic as the Playboy Mansion’s Grotto. Scripted or no, the show’s star did manage to present real emotion (not all those tears were crocodile), and she proved herself to be a rather likable heroine when you disregard all the whining.
Without Lauren, we’ll just be forced to watch Justin Bobby and Audrina attempt to string together enough nouns and verbs to form a sentence. And really, how many more times can we watch Heidi and Spencer get married? In other words, I’m officially done with The Hills. In the name of Shari Lewis, please end the show that never ends, MTV! That said, if they’re currently filming Speidi’s close encounters with Swine Flu in Mexico, the curiousity would get the best of me. But, otherwise, is it worth tuning in to MTV to watch a handful of bleach blondes stare at each other for a half-hour?
I may watch if Kristin joins the show (which is rumoured),but the show is so horrible this season,I can’t imagine that MTV wants it to continue. It’s literally not funny how setup and fake the show is. Lauren looks like she can’t wait for the farce to be over and I don’t blamer her. Who wants to watch The Adventures Of Speidi? Not me,those two are faker than Audrina’s new caps. Like her or not,Lauren has always added heart and as much reality as is allowed on this show. With her gone,future plotlines will be a disaster. You need someone grounded in reality to make a show like this work. I hope it fails miserably when LC flees the scene.
That’s why I like the SciFi channel.They know when to end a series.The question is…Where will all the cling-ons go when LC moves on ??
Doubtful that I’ll watch it! The show was already getting tired. I’m not a rabid fan of LC’s or anything and she can be pretty hard on people sometimes, but you’re right, she really could be a voice of sanity especially while watching Audrina’s on and off (and on and off, etc etc) relationship with Justin Bobby, and the whole mess that is Speidi. Watching Whitney’s spinoff — she’s a fantastic sidekick but a frustrating heroine — kinda gave me a new appreciation for Lauren too.
It’s interesting how likable Lauren turned out to be overall, I do think the show will suffer without her. She was the heart.
I stopped watching Laguna Beach after Lauren left for LA, and I have a feeling I’ll stop watching The Hills once she’s done. Despite how pointless these shows are, Lauren always provided for a bit of interesting television. The thought of watching an entire season of Speidi or Kristin Cavallari is enough to make my stomach turn.
Lauren is the heart and soul of the show. She’s the only person on the show who hasn’t overhauled herself with tons of plastic surgery. When she’s gone, I’m dunzo.

I completely agree with this post; Lauren Conrad is the heart and soul of the Hills. She’s intelligent, she is caring, has a good head on her shoulders and also fun to look at.
Heidi looks like a made-up Barbie, and I couldn’t believe when I heard that Justin Bobby would be back–it’s so fake I can’t believe it; he’s just being strung along so he can be on TV.
I do like Brody and Lo, but I also liked Whitney and it’s not enough to make me watch.

No more Hills for me once Lauren leaves. Lauren and Whitney were the voices of reason on the show and Lauren was interesting to watch because she shows emotions. The show has gotten so stupid once it started revolving around idiots like Audrina and Speidi. So No I wont be following the show once Lauren leaves.

i will watch it as long as Audrina is still filming. She is the best and my favorite.
