McConaughey as Captain America: Good for McConaughey and America?

The prospect of playing Captain America seems to be growing on Matthew McConaughey – either through sheer repetition of his name in connection with the Read the full post.

NOOO!!! Let WENTWORTH MILLER do it!

I think he should be given the chance. As the writer puts it, he DID have a fantastic role in A Time to Kill and he played it extremely well. I mean, we’re not talking Braveheart and Shawshank Redemption, this is a superhero movie, not the next Oscar nomination.
I think he could do it, and as a previous commentator put it, it would bring some status and popularity (eye candy for those of us with estrogen)to the role. Brandon Routh was a joke. (Although I don’t put the blame for that flop entirely on him.)
I am not a comic geek either, so all of you out there who will scoff at my reasoning, go ahead. I’ll see the movie and enjoy the view, you keep reading the comic books.

Matt Damon, the guy from Supernatural, Or Capt. Awesome are you people crazy!!! Im all in for Matty Mac! Cap has an appeal to older comic fans more so than Web Head or Wolvie. BTW just saw Origins and as a comic fan FOX has ruined it again by making another X-3, but women and ten year olds will love it.I just saw Reign of Fire again and it finally clicked for me.It will be funny to see them make him a skinny dweeb in a reverse effect of Tobey Maguire in Siderman. So until Marvel sells The Avengers to FOX, make mine McConaughey.

I saw the picture of Jensen Ackles and he most likely has the look down to say the least. But we must remember, Captain America represents the entire United States (all 316 million of us).
Do we really want someone from Texas as the representative of our national superhero?

They need someone younger to play Captain America. He was a youth who repeatedly tried to get recruited into the service but could not due to his physique. He was frozen for decades before being found by the Avengers. He wasn’t supposed to have aged while he was frozen or else we’d be looking for William Shatner to take on the role. Unless Marvel is trying to make a chick-flick love story out of their first Cap movie Matthew McConaughey is not the right man for the job.

MM and Hamm are just too old – we need someone who is young, but not a baby – I like the idea of Jensen Ackles from Supernatural – he is very charismatic and easy on the eyes. Plus he is a good, solid actor. His all-American look would fit the role well. I think you definitely need to shoot for someone under 35 – definitely not anyone over 40, no matter how great of shape they are in.

Wade Harlan. He’s pretty big, former military and has a good look.

  • Troy Tomlinson

No, this is a bad idea. They should have Randy “The Natural” Cotuore as the lead in this movie. He has all the skills as a fighter with a wrestling background. Just add some of the WW II Applegate and Fairbaine concepts and some acting lessons and he should do a good job. besides UFC fans have been calling him Captain America for years. Lets see if he can live up to the name, if its a good script.

Matthew McConaughey is old???? Since when is age 39 old???? Perhaps it’s too old to go to the prom, but certainly no old enough to save the world from Red Skull and Crossbones!
My grandfather is old; at 39 Matthew McConaughey is a young man. The box office needs to sell tickets and Matthew McConaughey can sell tickets over anyone that has been suggested below by far.
I agree with the guy who said Aaron Ekhart would be a great Captain America though. Great actor and very heroic, stoic looks.
