A supposed glitch on iTunes last week revealed that Adam Lambert and Kris Allen are the most downloaded contestants of American Idol’s season 8. More specifically, six songs by Adam crack the top 10 of an Idol-themed chart on iTunes, while three Kris performances appear on the list. It’s a controversial revelation — considering how Idol’s producers try to keep sales numbers secret to avoid letting each contestant’s popularity be known — but more so because Idol’s producers fans were anticipating an Adam-Danny showdown in the finals. (iTunes have no comment.)
To be fair, Danny still made an appearance on the top 10 chart — his "Endless Love" nabbed the No. 9 slot — but is there any surprise that Kris’ performances are more popular among contemporary consumers? (Even I couldn’t resist downloading several of his tunes, like "To Make You Feel My Love" and "Ain’t No Sunshine.") But more importantly, these iTunes stats make me wonder why the judges continue to push for an Adam-Danny final two, when Kris is supposedly a bigger draw on the charts. Isn’t the goal of Idol to find a future chart-topper à la Kelly Clarkson or Chris Daughtry?

None of the above? I’m downloading Allison Iraheta – “I Can’t Make You Love Me” is awesome. And Alexis Grace’s “Dirty Diana” is also cool. However, out of the three guys mentioned I’d have to root for Kris – Adam’s screaming is out of control.

I downloaded Mad World…and then all of Adam’s other songs. And I usually don’t even follow Idol (Idolatry, otoh, is a different story).
I’d really like to know if the contestants get a cut of their iTunes’ earnings or if it all goes to 19 Entertainment.
I have only purchased Allisons songs…i know she wont make it to the finales but i hope she makes it long enough for me to make a Allison Iraheta CD w/ about 10songs or more…lol!!
Once she is done i will go back and buy a few from Kris and Adam only…
When is American Idol Season 1 going to be on DVD??? They need to release them on DVD (thats the only season i would buy) but if they did, it would make them so much more money cus not only are people going to be buying the season dvd its going to get the public reinterested in AI almuni that have already released a cd years ago and werent hits…but at least people would go back and buy them if they were interested.

I think the judges want Adam to win, so pushing for Danny is a sure win for him, if it were to be a Adam / Kris finale, it could be a surprise!

You do realize that this only means songs from Idol. Doesn’t mean if they got out into the real world that they would still chart as well as they are doing on American Idol. So this is a false showing because it’s not telling us how it would do in the real world off Idol. Just karoke songs done really well. It’s great that Kris is doing well and Danny is doing so poorly in relation to the chart (although charting once is not that poor). Wish Alison was on the chart given that I think her music (voice) is the most relevant to today than the others. But still, I am not looking at how they are doing on Itunes until they are off the show and making their own music and then it will tell the tale. And just because three songs of Kris made it. Doesn’t mean he will be in the finals. It’s a possibility and I would rather him than Danny; but at the end of the day the votes matter… and multiple votes count…
The only 2 songs I downloaded were Adam’s Mad Worls and Track of My Tears.
If this show is about America choosing their idol then why are the judges pushing Adam. I don’t understand the hype over him it will crash just as hard as it did with Fantasia, Taylor and Ruben. The judges pushed for them and now where are they? At least Kris and Danny have longevity they don’t need to win to succeed like Adam does.
Obviously, if you are obsessed with a singer, you will download everything they do. And I am sure each of the contestants has benefited from diehard fans. If you are a little more selective, you are going to get what sounds good and different. Adam and Kris, on several occasions, have reworked songs making them different from the originals. A lot of times, after the contestants sing, I go on itunes and listen to the originals. If I like the original more, I buy it. This has been the case for Danny, since his songs are performed well (and received well), but they aren’t necessarily better than the original.
I’ve downloaded all of Adam’s songs…Ring of Fire is still my favorite of his performances. I’ve downloaded Allison’s Alone amd Hot Stuff, and Kris’s last three songs.
I’ve downloaded all of Kris’s, Allison’s “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone”, Matt’s “Human Nature”, and Anoop’s “Dim All the Lights”. Kris is my favorite, but I miss Anoop.
I’ve downloaded The Tracks of My Tears, but I’ve been watching Adam’s performances on a practical repeat whenever I’m on the computer. I defnitly wand Mad World and Black or White, since I am a Loyal Minion of the Dark Lord Screamanova.
Kris-Adam final is exactly what I am predicting. I knew Kris’ songs had high iTunes sales (I bought a few). I just hope Alison makes the top 3. I love the “raspiness” of her voice.
I’m downloading Kris and Allison, although not as much as David and David last year. Hearing Adam screach once a week is enough for me. Although I do love and listen to the Mad World version that Adam covered. Danny won’t make the final. No way. Go Kris go!
I’ve downloaded all of Kris’s performances on itunes, both the live versions and the studio versions. He’s my favorite by a mile. I love the way he interprets songs and he has a great voice. I’ve also downloaded a few of Adam’s including Mad World and he’s amazing as well. I’m hoping for a Kris/Adam finale with Kris winning.
To be fair, I’ve also bought one of Danny’s and one of Matt’s. They are both talented but I prefer listening to Kris and Adam.

Idol producers must be insanely disturbed and stupid to push for Adam-Danny finale. Danny is boring beyond belief.
The only songs and performances I’ve downloaded were Adam’s. He is the real deal. Love to watch him and listen to him!!

I definitely want an Adam/Allison showdown on Idol! Kris is BORING!!! Adam is most likely a sure win, but I’d like to see Allison come in second, she will definitely get a recording contract and I’ll by every one of her cd’s! She’s got an amazing, husky, unique voice…such a refreshing thing to see!! Good luck Allison!! And Adam, it’s nice to see you confident and humble at the same time when getting the judges comments. You’ll go far.
Anoop is more memorable than either – Adam has a thin voice and Kris is Blandy McBland.
I am seriously SO TIRED of the Idol conspiracy…Adam Lambert has never sung first in the lineup, and is usually last or near last. The network could at least be a bit more conspicuous.
