'American Idol': What should the Top 5 sing for 'Rat Pack' Night?

I agree with LauraK and whatcha : I’d love to see Adam sing Mack the Knife.

You’ve got the right album for Adam to choose a song from, Michael, but you’ve picked the wrong song (IMHO). I think that Adam could absolutely slay U2′s cover of “Night and Day,” which is similarly beat-driven, but is sung by a singer with which he has more in common (I’m a little surprised he has yet to sing a U2 song, as he and Bono have a similar range and love of melodrama).
Does it matter what they sing? Slezak’s just going to mindlessly slam Gokey not only for his singing, but the way he moves his left eye or something equally stupid. Slezak will then praise Adam, and then say, yeah but he’s supposed to be great. At which point Slezak can get back to his real first love slurping Kris no matter what he does. If Kris turns in a bad or mediocre performance tonight Slezak will find a way to spin it into, sure he’s only the third best performer but he didn’t do well but he should win anyway, just because. I mean it’s not fair that Adam’s so good. We have to hold that against him. The great, stupid levelling rule. Don’t be too good, don’t stand out. God forbid you actually try to do your best and be that much better than everyone else. Shame on you.

The perfect song for Adam is “Mr. Bojangles”. Sammy was awesome with his rendition. I’m sure Adam would take it further and leave us floating.
I think Allison should do the annie lennox version of every time we say good bye. it would show range plus she hasn’t really done a ballad yet
Matt should don his hat, wear a tux with the tie loosened, sit at the piano and sing “One More For my Baby, And Another One For the Road.” And if he can get away with a martini on the piano and a cigarette burning, so much the better.
Allison has the smokey Peggy Lee voice, and she could pull this off to her advantage. I think this is going to be an interesting show tonight. I love this stuff!
Standards week, my favorite! I think Danny would make a mistake trying to sing “What Kind of Fool am I”. He hasn’t got that kinda range. He’d do better singing something cool and smooth, like Mack the Knife or One for My Baby. Adam will be up-tempo this week so, he probably won’t do any Dean Martin. I liked someone’s suggestion for “Come Fly With Me” for him, so long as he doesn’t “rock” it out. Allison should sing “Let’s Do It”…it will give her a chance to soften up a little without losing her “allison-ness”. Matt could do just about anything this week, he IS rat-pack material. I loved your suggestions, slezak. Kris, ah Kris…the sinatra of our times…what about “It Was Just One of Those Things” or “So In Love”…is that Rat Pack? Looking forward to tonight!
Kris- Sinatras version of Harrisons “Something”.
Danny- “Candyman (and yes folks, it’s going to be cheese-tastic)”.
Adam- “I’ve Got You Under My Skin”.
Matt- “Just the way you look tonight”.
Allison- “The Lady is a Tramp (Ella Fitzgerald’s version)”.
And I predict that either Matt or Danny will leave the following night.
The two songs have been cut to one due to time constraints. Apparently they have to sing the song they recorded for itunes. Producers really have mucked the format of the show up this year.
Kris needs to do The Summer Wind and put his signature on it with a jazzy/latin beat. That’s the kind of music he does best.
Michael H. – I wondered the same thing about whether they would expand the catalog to artists like Tony Bennett and Judy Garland (who often performed with the Rat Pack)… hoping they do!
Adam could do One In A Lifetime. It requires a tremendous amount of emotion and Adam has that!
i would LOVE it if Allison sang That’s Life! Buble’s cover of it is one of my faves of all time, and she would do an incredible with it
Although I was born in 1956, (yeah, I’m old) I have to admit I’m totally lost with this music. I hope great songs are chosen and shouldn’t they be singing 2 songs at this stage? If we only get one song tonight, I will be disappointed. More time for judges inane comments and needless filler I suppose.
