'Ghost Whisperer': Okay, who cried?

SPOILER ALERT! Just when I thought I’d made it through an episode of Ghost Whisperer without welling up, Melinda (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Jim/Sam (David Conrad) found out that she was pregnant. The baby was conceived eight weeks ago, which in Ghost Whisperer time was before Jim died and stepped into Sam’s body. Melinda’s pregnancy was perhaps the worst-kept secret in TV land, since photos of Hewitt carrying a faux baby bump on set leaked, but the timing was still a pleasant surprise — at least to me. I hadn’t seen a promo. I hadn’t been thinking about the show or its direction since it was off the air for much of March and April. I thought we were just getting a fun episode about Delia, Eli, and Jim outing themselves as superfans of the soap opera filming in town.

What was your reaction to the baby news? Do you finally feel like this Jim/Sam storyline is paying off? I’ve felt like it was worth it since the episode that Jim remembered that he was Jim (and not just because that particular moment found Conrad wearing a wet T-shirt and using his soft Jim-voice again…well, maybe). But if you’ve been holding out, might the sight of Jim/Sam kneeling and proposing to Melinda next Friday break you?

I was in a puddle after the episode!! lol. So happy for Mel and Jim to be pregnant. I’m interested in whats to come in the final 3 episodes of this Season. I know Jim is going to re-propose next week but I still think the Producers are hiding something for the Season Finale.

Sorry but can’t get into it!!!! I stopped watching when they killed off Jim and don’t won’t can’t buy the whole switching bodies thing…goes against the whole rules of the show. There would be a multitude of spirits who decided they didn’t want to go to the ‘other side’if they knew they could just hang around until a conveniently newly deceased happened along for them to jump into. There wouldn’t be many for Melinda to help if they knew there was an option to the other side….

Great article Mandi! Yea, I was totally welling up a little also, and I feel like they needed to do this to redeem the story since Jim’s death, but I still can’t get over f-in Jamie Kennedy on that show, but I know he won’t last since once J-love breaks up with him, as producer she’ll boot him out and he is out of there, i give it a few months a year at most…i know that sounds mean, but Jesus, Jennifer is a great girl she can do way better than him.

I agree with AuntieMM; the entire “Jim Takes Over Another Body” plotline violates every single rule of the show.
Now, if this ends up with Jim truly crossing over and him “living on” through the baby, I could possibly take it. Honestly, I’d even be happy if the entire story from Jim’s death until now was just Melinda’s dream and, again, Jim will “live on” through the baby.

It won the ratings Friday night too, most watched TV show the entire night!

I loved the show on Friday and I did cry my eyes out! I am so happy they didn’t get rid of Jim’s spirit! Melinda and Jim are made for eachother so now that Melinda is pregnant it will get better.

    I welled up. So sweet.

I love the whole pregnant thing for them both, but the whole Jim/Sam thing is way too out there, how will they ever explain it, to friends and the child??? And hey if it can happen for them, no telling who’s next!!!

I hate the whole Jim/Sam thing. I didn’t like this episode. It was kind of boring & it seemed like a lame attempt to justify killing Jim (i.e. the scene when they were trying to explain why they might kill off the soap opera actor to the fan club president.) Seriously? It sort of made me mad. The Jim dying thing will never pay off. The only upside was that Melinda conceived before Jim died.

I don’t understand why everyone is upset with the Jim/Sam plot. It seems that Melinda is a benevolent soul charged with a difficult task yet she soldiers on. Jim has been the only decent constant in her life, and that was nearly taken from her. She may have him back now, but at a massive cost.
This plot not only helps Melinda’s character, it gives the writers more directions. She can have love but at a price. It adds an edge to the show that unfortunately isn’t very popular because it brakes rules? I seriously have to bend reality in order to enjoy Ghost Whisperer, Jim\Sam folds into that reality just fine. I’m not excited about the baby, I think a child will take the ‘spooky’out of the show. I’d like to find out more about Grandview and why it’s a paranormal mecca.

The baby will tie into next season’s storyline with the return of Romano (the evil dead cult leader) and the Book of Changes, which is some kind of book where destiny is written on it or something, not exactly sure how it all will turn out but that’s part of the fun of it!
