Director Rian Johnson’s movie Brick very much divided the relatively small number of people who saw it. Some, such as myself, thought it a brilliantly skilled relocation of the noir genre (specifically the work of crime author Dashiell Hammett) to a contemporary high school. And some thought it a load of overly arch baloney. Anyway, Johnson has now posted the opening sequence of his follow-up The Brothers Bloom on hulu.com. The film, which the director describes as a "big, fun, globe-trotting con man movie," stars Adrien Brody and Mark Ruffalo as a pair of sibling grifters attempting to bilk millionairess Rachel Weisz out of her fortune. However, this pre-credit sequence depicts the very start of the young Blooms’ life as con artists. See what you think. But, frankly, anything that features Rod Stewart’s terrific reworking of The Temptations’ "(I Know) I’m Losing You" and not one but two blackly comic gags about injured cats is just aces by me.

Being a huge fan of Brick, I’ve been psyched about The Brothers Bloom for ages. I’m so glad to see it FINALLY coming out.
I like the way it’s cut- nice editing. Full of energy and spunk. Cute writing, too. I’d dare say it seems more interesting to watch just the story of the kids (since I don’t like Brody or Ruffalo too much, anyway). This almost looks like it would be better as a TV pilot. I’d def tune in every week.
Yeah, when is this movie coming out? I’ve been dying to see it since it was at TIFF last fall.
Can’t view the clip because Hulu isn’t available in Canada. But I see the cast, and it looks like it could be good.

Saw it a few months ago and its great. The cast delivers and Rachel Weisz is phenomenal.
The clip has a real Pushing Daisies feel. I LOOOVED the way the kid flicked his pixie stick! I’ll definitely go see it.
Count me as one who really enjoyed “Brick” and it’s ability to be seen as either an earnest homage or affectionate parody. Or maybe both. Loved this opening, it reminded me of the terrific before the credits backstory of “Raising Arizona” by the Coen Brothers. Of course, it also reminded me of the opening flashbacks to young Ned on my beloved “Pushing Daisies”. And we all know now how that turned out, ouch. Curse you, ABC!
I can’t wait to see this movie. I’m so excited about it. The clip was great.
Watched the new trailer (opening scenes)of The “Brothers Bloom” and have to say that I can’t wait to see it. The kids, especially Young Bloom’s (Zachary Gordon) expressiveness and acting ability throughout the opening are so enveloping that it sets the tone for the rest of the movie. I want more now, but have to wait until the movie is released this month. I expect this to be an excellent movie given the entertainment value of the opening sequence.
Saw the movie at a festival screening, and it does not disappoint. Rian Johnson did a Q & A afterword, and was a super nice guy.
I saw the trailer to the “Brothers Bloom” and loved it. The kid who plays Young Bloom (Zach Gordon) is just great and so expressive, even without saying anything. Love his carrying his suitcase and walking away to “I’m Losing You” is so impactful.
Recently saw the movie as I didn’t see alot of marketing for it, though, after seeing it, this movie should have had a ton of marketing behind it. This is an excellent, solid, piece of movie entertainment. Very enjoyable story and the acting from the boys to the adults was just “first class”. I HIghly Recommend this film.
