Or should we say, Jonathan "The Duke" Mardukas? Yes, the often cranky, always delightful Charles Grodin turns 74 today. And we wouldn’t want to let the day pass without at least one video tribute. We thought long and hard about dusting off a clip from Beethoven’s 2nd, or the pint-sized Martin Short epic Clifford. But in the end, we went (as we always do) with a choice scene from 1988′s buddy-film classic, Midnight Run. Watch and be convinced of the fact that Robert De Niro never had a better costar than the cartoonish curmudgeon who’s our birthday boy of the day. Enjoy! Although be warned, there’s some spicy language, so just to be safe (NSFW)…

Sorry but I will always think of Charles Grodin from “The Great Muppet Caper.” I had such a crush on him in that movie!
One of my favorite movies EVER! But how the heck is Charles Grodin 74???
I just have one comment–why are you so unpopular with the Chicago Police Department?
We get Grodin (Happy Birthday), we get Bones recapped, we get Idol stuff (who cares)…..WHERE is the Chuck love Popwatch???? Where? I mean, last night’s episode was awesome with sprinkles of awesomeness on top of it….You NEED to start recapping and giving the love to every episode, EW!
I first saw Charles Grodin in the 1976 remake of KING KONG. He actually played a tough guy with a mustache.
Grodin had a talk show in the 90s. That’s when I fell in lurv. After that I thought he was so hot. But I can’t believe how old he is!
Re: Charles Grodinsky. First time I have ever heard of this “river rat.” All of us from Pittsburgh area are annoited with that designation. Why doesn’t he wear his 1933 Polish hat backwards? That would emphasize his level of maturity.
