Also, I’d like to think that if ANYTHING cost Miss California the title, it was that feathered [female anatomy] of a dress.

“Opposite marriage?!” I’m sorry, but that woman is an idiot. No matter what you believe about this, you have to admit that! Lol. Opposite marriage.

Just curious…if any of you who are so quick to slam this young lady for her “poorly articulated answer” were in the same situation, how do you think you would do? Try making a split second decision on national television between the answer you know will please the judges (but sell out your core beliefs) or the one that will support your core beliefs (but probably cost you any chance of winning). I’d be willing to bet most of you commenting herewould be doing a Ralph Kramden impersonation “Hummana…Hummana…Hummana”, if anything came out at all.
Kudos to this young woman for choosing to stick to her beliefs. She has my respect – and (conveniently forgotten by most) the respect of the majority of the country which agrees with her.

Perez Hilton’s ignorance is shown in his response to her answer. He called her a dumb b!t@h.
Thank you Miss California for reiterating the values that founded this great nation.

Anybody who thinks that this Hilton jacka$$ is a “journalist” needs to seriously evaluate their perception of the press. The number of real journalists is an ever-shirnking short list. He certainly is not on that list. Blah.

People can say whatever they want to say and believe whatever they want to believe. It’s a problem when people legislate based on religious beliefs that the entire country does not share. She had a right to say what she did, and PH was wrong to belittle her on his site. I don’t agree with her, but she is entitled to her opinion. Her religious beliefs should not be the basis of law in this country.

Man, whats wrong with these people. This girl was hit witha question NOBODY else got. She answered it, “off the cuff”. NOw this idiot perez, slams her on his blog, saying she has half a brain, and worse. This is extremly bad behavior for him, and hopefully, he will NEVER be a judge and slows his career down. I can see it now, that if you dont support gay marriage, then your a racist. ITs too much pressure to be yourself these days, ask the gay people. But do not DEMAND that everyone except you. Just like you dont support people that dont support you. This perez can leave the public. But i can see now, hes probably booked on all the entire TV morning shows and Oprah, like hes some kind of super hero.

So sad that the day has come when a young woman cannot voice her own opinion…Remember free speech…who does Perez think he is!!~What a joke..Shows his class with his bashing on the web…

  • teabagger

I wonder if Anderson Cooper at CNN will try to get her on his program so that he can publicly humiliate her on national TV. If not CNN, I am fairly certain that one of the mainstream media outlets is chomping at the bit for this opportunity. Watch and see how pathetic they are.

I am happy to see that Miss CA expressed her honest opion. The question was inapproptiat the Perez asked the question assuming he knew Miss CA had no other option than to answer the question the way he wanted it to go. What he forgets because he lives in a very bizzare and sheltered world. The majority even in CA are not for state sanctioned same sex marriage.
Shame on Perez for trying to use this event to push his political agenda.
Miss CA did wonferfully, imagine how she must have felt being put on the spot in such and inappropitate manner.

  • John

Turn my opinion on Perez? Quite the opposite, how about Miss CA is my hero! Yes, her answer was awkward, but I applaud her ability to stand up for something she believes in. Enough of moral relativism, kudos for Miss CA and her moral clarity!

@ JS: I don’t think anybody is claiming they would have done better in the same situation. However, the majority of posters (I would assume) are not beauty pageant contestants. She has spent countless hours preparing for the interview. She knows it has the power to change the outcome of the event. This is her “job”.
She’s in a beauty pageant. She is literally putting herself out there to be judged by others. We should certainly be respectful of her right to have an opinion. With that said, though, just as people have the right to agree with her, they have the right to disagree with her, and they also have the right to judge her performance.
To judge her character or her opinions is pointless, because nobody knows her and can do so based on an answer. However, we can judge her performance.

    @flintstonesrus:
You do not have to be identify as part of the “gay community” to support equal protection of the law for all citizens regardless of your religion. Religion should not dictate law. People are influenced by their religious beliefs, yes, but it shouldn’t infringe on the rights of others.

  • Jay

She could have been smoother, but I don’t understand why we’re supposed to hate this girl just because she is not for gay marriage. And perez hilton a hero? Give me a break. Freedom of speech is freedom of speech, no matter what side of the issue you come down on.

  • Sara

Weren’t most of the questions in this round “political”? “Should we use taxpayer money to bail out failing businesses?” “Should all US citizens have government-sponsored healthcare?” Don’t blame Perez for asking a “political” question, the other girls got similar questions.
Do blame Perez, though, for trying to burn her in effigy online.
