DVR enhancements we'd like to see

On my way to work today, I imagined coming home to my DVR/life partner this evening, clicking on my recorded shows list, and being greeted Read the full post.

I would freaking love to have my dvr (who I call steve) record more than two shows at a time (especially on Mondays). I would also love for it to be tied into the ratings so my favorite shows that I can’t watch live don’t get canceled. I love the emoticon idea that is awesome!

    * I want to be able to record more than 2 shows at once, especially on Monday, Tuesday.
    * I’d like my DVR to ignore that Dancing with the Stars ends at 10:01, and not refuse to start taping Rescue Me at 10:00 because I’m also taping Without a Trsce.
    * I’d also like my DVR to stop missing shows that I have on “series” taping. I haven’t forgiven it for missing the Idol night with Kelly Clarkson. It also skipped the 2nd Harpers Island, so I deleted the whole series since I was waiting to watch 2 back-to-back.
    * Lastly, if a show goes over, I’d like my DVR to keep taping, without messing with any other shows I happen to be taping.
    * I’ve been addicted to my DVR for almost 2 years. I don’t know how I lived without it, but it can be better…I know it can. :)

So many of the problems…especially the first poster’s comments…would be solved by getting a TiVo! And for those who are running out of recording space on their TiVo or DVR, I HIGHLY recommend this place…weird website name, but GREAT place for TiVo handholding!! http://www.weaknees.com

I agree with the recording on Mondays. What I do since I can only record 2 things at once, I use the time shifting ie. set up some of the other programs from the west coast feed (I live on the east coast of Canada) so I get to record Heroes, Chuck, 24, Castle, Big Bang Theory, Bones spec episode, and Dancing with the stars for my wife.

You know what’s going to happen with the emoticons though, don’t you? Your DVR is going to mess up recording something, but is still going to give you a smiley face. You know it’ll happen!

I have certain shows set to record new programs only, but it still manages to tape the repeasts when I specified not to. I wish they would fix that. Naming you DVR Steve reminds me of that Sex and the City episode when Miranda traded Steveo for Tivo.

I’d love to be able to program it from the internet. Like…If I’m at work and forgot that a new show is starting or that a special is on, and I won’t be home until after them, it’d be nice to be able to program that without actually sitting in front of my TV.

I’d like TiVo to do some work, and modify the recording schedules based on the clocks the networks use. My CBS & NBC recordings always start late because their 8:00 and Tivo’s 8:00 aren’t the same.
Using the “Start a couple minutes early” feature just ends up creating a scheduling mess since there isn’t a “End a couple minutes early” feature that you can set on an earlier show.

Sabrina, you can program TiVos from the internet.

I can really only think of two things I would my want tivo to do besides what it does now. I would love it if it had a special events tivo suggestions. Like just in case I wanted to see the series finale to ER or something or a big awards show if I didn’t remember to watch it. The other thing and tivo might already let me do this is keep stuff around longer once I deleted it. I feel like it deletes it permanently about 5 minutes after I deleted it. Give me a little bit more time in case someone that night wanted to see what I deleted.
