I know I’m supposed to care about Tommy deciding that he’s not coming back even though the charges have been dropped and what that will do to Nora (who will be so consumed by the loss that she won’t be able to read, drink, and swim with newly-divorced Roger). And I’m supposed to be on the edge of my seat wondering if Robert, who actually got his cardiologist to sign an affidavit saying he’s good to go for sex with Kitty, will find out about her emotional affair with the park dad Alec. (Judging from the preview for next week, the answer is yes.) But really, as much as I love the entire Walker family (save Tommy), I would watch an hour of just Sarah, Kevin, and Scotty. Who’s with me?
Sarah prepared for her first day back at Ojai by going shopping with Kevin, buying an ill-fitting hot pink dress, and cracking a joke when they ran into Chad (guest star Jason Lewis), Kevin’s actor ex. "He’s bi, right?" she asked. "Maybe you should introduce me…. I’m 40. I can’t be that choosey." Chad spotted them, crossed the street, dipped Kevin, and kissed him hard (pictured). Excellent entrance. So much hotter than Tribute, Lewis’ recent Lifetime movie with Brittany Murphy. Clearly no longer closeted, Chad eventually invited Kevin and Scotty out for drinks and I, for one, knew where this was headed long before Chad asked them what married life was like ("It’s like an episode of Leave it to Beaver, without the…," Kevin trailed off) and whether they wanted to get out of there. And yet, my jaw still dropped. Cut to Kevin and Scotty making out in their apartment and a knock at the door. They both thought it was Chad not taking no for an answer (and the start of a porno), so they decided to let him in. Scotty opened the door and that shot of Sarah, standing there crazy-haired from her tryst with Cal (guest star Cristian de la Fuente) in the Ojai storeroom was one of my Top 10 favorites of the series. I love that Sarah had to share her office sex story with someone and since she couldn’t reach Kitty, just showed up at Kevin’s door because he’d been the most promiscuous Walker until he wed Scotty. I also love her response when Kevin told her that they thought she was Chad coming for a threesome. "Nice choice."
Let’s back up a bit. Sarah had sex on the brain and was happy to discover that since she’s left Ojai Foods it’s turned into Ojai Dudes. (Well done, Holly!) After ogling half of the staff (Rebecca should have no problem getting over Justin there), Sarah zeroed in one Cal from accounting who was more than happy to help her move boxes. I laughed out loud when she had him fetch a large ceramic pineapple from a top shelf just so she could examine the fine form he acquired being a minor league baseball player and a volunteer fireman. (As if it wasn’t enough that he managed his niece’s softball team, THEY MADE HIM A VOLUNTEER FIREMAN??? Would anyone blame Sarah for sleeping with this guy? I think not.) They finally grabbed each other and went at it, pausing only when Sarah asked him to sign a form saying that any intimate act they were to engage in was consensual and not based on business, like the promise of a promotion. So nice to see her being the smart businesswoman we know her to be. Too bad Cal turned out to be a temp who got one heck of a goodbye present. (Do you think Holly slept with him, too? I guess not. That would be too weird.)
As Scotty and Kevin came to terms with the fact that they’re most comfortable nesting ("We may as well be lesbians," Scotty quipped), Kitty grew closer to Alec (guest star Matt Letscher). I was surprised that she admitted to him that she finds it easier to talk to him than to Robert at this point. That just made the situation even stickier. Do you think Robert and Kitty will make it through this? Do you even want them to? My feelings echo Kitty’s: What I used to love about him (his ambition, etc.) now just disappoints me. And bores me. After the way he closed himself off to Kitty, he can’t expect her to be waiting for him with open arms. Selfishly, I want her to separate from Robert because I’m tired of seeing that storyline week after week and it’s making Kitty lifeless. How great was it to see her excited for Nora about her reunion with Roger? Anyone else wondering why Nora didn’t have a talk with Kitty right there about Alec? Nora can read Kitty. She would’ve recognized that Kitty was overly defensive when she teased, "Kitty has a boyfriend! Kitty has a boyfriend!" It looks like Robert sees Kitty and Alec flirting in the park next week. Here’s hoping it hits the fan.
After a chat with Robert, who wrote him a recommendation for the VA medical program, Justin had an epiphany and asked Rebeccato meet him on the bench where they’d shared their first kiss. He tookresponsibility for letting their families come between them and lyingabout it and walked off, leaving her with the beautiful view thatoriginally made him want to show her that spot. This is, arguably, thehealthiest, most mature thing we’ve ever seen Justin do. And, ofcourse, it will not last. Next week’s preview shows Rebecca askingJustin for help with Ryan. What do you think that’s about? I think Ryanbecomes obsessed with her (officially) and she gets scared. He kindacreeped me out last night when he put his hand on her knee at dinnerwith her parents. David saw it and warned Rebecca that Ryan is lookingfor more than a couch to crash on. But she doesn’t see it. Neither doesHolly, who he’s totally sucking up to. She told Ryan that Rebecca’s favorite flowers are hydrangeas. He boughtsome for Rebecca and pretended like he just got lucky with a guess.Denying the insider info. from Holly could’ve been playful had it not been so calculating. He wants Rebecca to think that he knows herbetter than anyone. Dangerous, dangerous. Holly also told Ryan not to get caught up in the past. Could it be that the welcome fruit basket she sent Sarah was genuine, and she realizes that having Sarah at Ojai is only going to make her company more successful? I hope so. Maybe Holly could finally be decent, if they make Ryan the villain…

Agree totally with your recap, Mandi! LOVED the Kevin/Scotty make-out with Sarah interruptus, her hair all askew. Classic! Ryan is SO creepy, not sure what his deal is…I’m over Robert, too, but Kitty seems like the type who would fight for her marriage, don’t want her to walk away prematurely.

Agree! Good I love Kevin and Scotty, I just wish we could see more of them, and more hot scnes like that one! Sarah’s funny too.
No more Rebecca please.
Um…Does David know that Holly has turned her company into Ojai Dudes? Cause that was actually kind of weird. I see Holly and Rebecca staffing the place one night, late, guzzling wine, placing headshots around the office and going, “Him, Him, not Him, Him…” There was actually some elegant writing last night, though I can’t quite remember what it was as I was so distracted by the goings-on over at Cougar Central. I think it had to do with Robert/Kitty, though I agree I’m very bored with the whole storyline.
I would also be all about an hour of Kevin, Scotty, and Sarah (well, and Nora and Kitty, because the two of them are great too). I loved it when a half-naked Scotty opened the door to reveal a frazzled Sarah, who promptly barged in, interrupted Kevin and Scotty’s (hot, I might add) make-out session, and then pretty much said she had to tell Kevin about her tryst because he used to be a big ol’ slut and would understand. Too funny.
Last night’s show was one of the funniest and sexiest episodes ever. My only quip would be that it would have been more interesting if Scotty and Kevin has given in to Chad’s request and then dealing with the aftermath. That would have lead to a crazier dynamic for their story line. And they need to bring back Cal just to really drive Sarah’s libido over the edge.
She better not be talking to Justin about Ryan because they hooked up. I would be sooo mad if they took the story in that direction. I like him as this creepy, potentially obsessed guy.
Wow. This must be a popular show. 8 posts in three hours. The previews each week look very lame. Sally Field should stick to pushing Boniva for her old and brittle bones.
Mandi, you are right! The Kevin, Scotty, and Sarah show was much more interesting! The pineapple was my favorite part too. But we didn’t alas get a Jason Lewis shirtless shot, although the situation worked out right. And Sarah Jane Morris got more screen time than ever!
Thought the episode was great! Definitely agree w/ you. I would absolutely watch an hour of Kev, Scotty, and Sarah – as long as HOT HOT Cal was included as well!
Tired of the whole Robert/Kitty thing. End it, or make an effort to fix it.
Ryan is so creepy. Not a good, eerie creepy though. More like actually psychotic creepy. Get rid of him. And he can take Rebecca with him. Maybe kill her, then go off to jail forever. Leave the 4 most interesting Walker sibs to run the show.
I want more Justin! Love that he wants to be a doctor. Want him to get the heck over Rebecca and run into his old gf Tyler, and they should start up again.
I hated, hated, HATED that Scotty went to the door, thinking that Chad was there for a threesome, and Scotty and Kevin were going to do it. Sure, they agreed to be monogamous at the end of the episode, but it made them look like stereotypical, sex crazed gays. Slight bummer.
Great ep. The stuff between Kevin & Scotty was a riot (Luke MacFarlane needs to do more shirtless scenes) as was Sarah’s romp at the office and subsequent visit to Kevin and Scotty.
I also was not thrilled that Kevin and Scotty were openning the door thinking that they were letting Chad in, but I thought it was hysterical when it was Sarah and Scotty grabbed a pillow to cover up his chest! Such modesty!
Totally loved all the heat though. The spark between Sarah and Cal had me quite interested. Loved the pineapple thing, and the sign this paper thing! Only Sarah. Bring that temp back. We need more eye candy! Kitty and Robert now bore me. Same goes for Tommy. Fine, stay gone. Who cares. Not sure why Nora and Roger can’t be together even if they occaionally have to be apart sometimes. I don’t know any woman who accompanies her partner on all of his business trips!
Bring back Cal!!!
I had a stray thought last night – as Ryan was saying how fun Holly seemed, I began to wonder if SHE may have been the reason his mother killed herself (or had an accident). Holly didn’t know William fathered another child, but what if she knew that William was seeing another woman and confronted that woman – Ryan’s mom – who didn’t know that William was seeing Holly.
And I don’t think Ryan is supposed to be coming off as creepy – I think he’s supposed to be coming off as awkwardly crushing on Rebecca while he mildly manipulates Justin and Rebecca against one another.
And this is why I didn’t want Rebecca de-Walkerized. If she isn’t seeing a family member, she quickly loses her relevancy to the story.
I really enjoyed the Kevin and Scotty storyline. I did not mind that they considered having a threesome and letting Chad into the apartment as it led to the important revelation that they enjoy being monogamous. Also the fact that they initially refused Chad’s offer, makes me think that even if Chad were to have appeared at their apartment they would not have gone through with it. Also I did like Sarah’s storyline. Rachel Griffith’s is so funny. Ryan is really
Ryan is really creepy. I do not trust his intentions for both Rebecca and the Walkers. I am a little confused why Nora is not upset that he is gone. Though I guess there is only some much that she can take. Hopefully Ryan will stir things up and the hit the road. I think he makes a good recurring character, but please ABC do not make him a permanent edition.
I really enjoyed this episode. I have particularly enjoyed Sarah and Kevin. They have been my favorite Walkers for a long time. Tonight reminded me again why I am so fond of them. I know it is early but I really hope that Rachel Griffiths and Matthew Rhys receive emmy nominations this year.
while L-U-V Sarah, last night I wanted to slap her outta that silly, annoying, Paris Hilton-acting, checking out the tush on the temp, coy ‘flirty’ thing she was doing. besides being so outa of character for Sarah, it was just plain STUPID. almost as much as that whole Scotty-Kevin-geez!-what-happened-to-Jason-Lewis’-face threesome storyline. THAT was beyond stupid. but the saving grace (for me) was Kitty. so want Robert outta the picture. he’s served his purpose. Kitty needs to get back to being the magnificent, strong woman we first got to know the first season. opinionated, willful, full of zest and life. this whole ’stepford wife’ thingy has gotten tired. and old. and boring. even Nora’s obsessive need about Tommy was a bit much. and PLEASE! GET RID OF RYAN! thought the Justin/Rebecca thing was pathetic. the new Ryan/Rebecca mess is just gross. and tell Ryan to keep his shirt on!! actually ran screaming outta the room “MY EYES! MY EYES!”
Can we please discuss appearance in Robert’s purple pants at the end of the episode? Was he fresh from yoga class or something?
Kevin and Sarah have ALWAYS been my favorite characters on this show, and Scotty is just perfectly YUMMY!! This episode was one of the best ever. Ojai Dudes…priceless! The shots of Kevin and Scotty going at it, Sarah and Cal going at it…oh, you get the point. This episode was HOT and FUN!
I agree that Kitty should go back to being more vibrnat and strong but I do not want to see Rob Lowe go. Patricia Wettig on the other hand, I feel her character has served her purpose. I have never hated Holly but i think that her character was only around to cause tension. She did that. Now it is time to go. Let her move back to NY with David. Bring Tommy back. There is potential for some really good storylines. What is he going to do now that he can not go back to Ojai?
Send Ryan back to Berkley. He has the charisma of a piece of dry wall. Bring back Tommy. Otherwise awesome episode. And I am finally starting to like Roger. Although I am hoping that Nora and Isaac (Danny Glover) will get back together.
Please explain how Ryan went from the idea that his mother might of intentionally died in a car accident to believing this as fact?
Loved this episode with the Kevin/Scotty story line! And can we exchange Julia and get Tommy back? Please?
I loved this episode. Any show that can actually make me laugh out loud is a keeper. Love Kevin and Sarah!! Also enjoyed the conversation with Kitty and Nora – its great to see Nora happy for once. I’m glad they’re shaking Kitty up- she has become boring. I am looking forward to see what happens next!
I LOVED this episode…Rachel Griffiths is the best one on this show and she got to shine last night…I think these type of shows, where less walkers is better, are the type of storylines that keep us all interested.
the scene with kevin and scotty going at it was HOT HOT HOT!
You are not alone Mandi. I totaly wish the show was just Sarah, Kevin and Scotty.
This episode was absolutely hilarious when it wanted to be and spot on serious when it needed to be. It use to be that only the writers at Desperate Housewives could pull that off with such unique cleverness. What Happened to the writing is what I want to know. Did they hire new writers? The writing ever since the 2 hour movie event has been incredible. I can only imagine how amazing finale night will be once it gets here. Ryan, Holly, and the park dad are definitely getting ready to antagonize the walker dynamics. But really there are so many engaging stories ocurring at the moment, the writers have put themselves in a can’t lose situation. I certainly want to know what’s going to happen with Tommy, his family, and whether he’s going to come back to be a thorn in Holly’s side. And if Justin pursues his degree in medicine, will that become a situation in which he begins playing with fire. But what I most want to know is if Rebecca’s being killed off in the season finale?
I can’t imagine anyone going to work in that dress that Sarah had on, unless it was to work the streets – isn’t she supposed to be a VP or something?
