Adam, I look forward to your article (and Slezak’s) each week and I just have to tell you – by the time I got to your comment about readers rolling their eyes, I was in tears. I mean, I am not going to claim that Idol doesn’t frequently have an emotional affect on me, but your description of the way the finalists genuinely support each other and how that contributed to the mood in the building just pulled me right back into the moment. Thank you.

Well, I appreciate all of you Danny fans who responded to me. To each his or her own, of course, but(IMO)from the moment I heard him butcher Mariah’s ‘Hero’ several weeks ago, I have had it in for the guy. I agree with Slezak; he has a decent voice, but everytime he reaches for a big note it cracks. And he can’t dance, and is a little overweight; didn’t we already see this with Taylor Hicks? I grant you that Danny could win, but mark my word, if he does, afterwards he’ll disappear as quickly as Taylor.
Forgot one thing! I thought the POINT of THE SAVE, was to save someone who has a CHANCE of winning. They made a splashy show of how people were eliminated that could have won, i.e. Chris D., Jennifer H. So Simon tells Matt he doesn’t have a snowballs’ chance in hell of winning, then they save him. MAKES NO SENSE.
THEY WASTED THE SAVE.
I’m sure it was all warm and fuzzy in there, but they contradicted what they themselves said was the point of the save.
Ratings. Pure and simple.
Matt getting saved was awesome! I love Matt’s humility and his voice. He is extremely talented and I honestly disagree with Simon. If people are voting based on talent rather than popularity or “gimmicks” then Matt is DEFINITELY headed for the finals and even the title. He is the BEST vocalist on the show.. Honestly… He is just not “out there” like some others and more reserved and shy.. If anyone has any question about how well he sings.. Watch the mo-town resutls show medley.. Matt sings like an angel, and he deserves to win!
I loved the save, Matt might not be THE winner but he didn’t deserve to go home before Lil or Anoop! Lil isn’t improving any she can sing yes but you have to do more than that. Anoop is a great singer picking good songs he just does not have the IT factor. IF Danny wins can we say Taylor Hicks? Um where is he now? Oh right dropped from his label. I think Allyson would make the best American Idol. She’s young, and has the stuff that winners are made of. Adam could do so much better not winning. The IDOL thing takes over and you’re not original or yourself anymore after you win. I love Matt and Kris but I don’t think that either of them will win.
You know what? Danny can sing, I will give him that, but he just seems so dull. I feel like his stage presence is forced, it doesn’t come naturally. I love Marc Broussard, but I don’t think Danny has his soul, but the voices are similiar. Kris and Matt remind of songwriters in concert. I could see them doing stuff like Billy Joel or James Taylor, just get on stage with your instrument and connect with the audience. Adam is a performer and his concerts would be Prince in form. Allison is great but until she matures she will be grouped with the pop teens. Anoop is a balladeer and that is where he should stay. Lil, everytime I hear her I keep hearing Simon say, cruise ship or lounge act. Vegas here I come!
I’m with you Melissa….I was completely tearing up, not rolling my eyes, reading Adam’s recap. I watched it and was hoping he’d be saved and hearing the crowd chant “save” did make me smile but reading about how it felt to be there made me break out a klenex! I like the group they have left, so I don’t know who I want to see go next…..I guess Lil’ and somebody else, but who???
I vote for Danny because I love his voice AND I like his goofy personality. I have bought all of his songs and hope he comes in top 2. I like Adam too but not as much as I like Kris and Matt.
I must say I felt just like you, and I was watching the show online. I got very emotional when I heard the audience cheering, shouting, chanting “save, save, save’. Matt deserved it. It was a great save!
IMO, the save was not wasted. The judges can only use it up until they narrow it down to 5 contestants (we’re already down to 7), and Matt, Lil, and Anoop are the likely candidates to land in the bottom the next few weeks. I think Matt deserves a save more than Anoop and Lil.
Hey, I love Matt. I like his aw shucks attitude with the thumbs in the pockets. His way looking cool without trying. What a dude with a cool tune! he’s da bomb
