Crash stayed at the top because it was made by a prominent Scientologist and the followers inflated it for him. I could be wrong, but then again he’s just openly renounced his faith and membership so let’s see if it’s rating drops soon….

I honestly can’t believe there are people as prickish as sav. You don’t have to like the movie, but to attack anyone who likes it is just childish. That lack of humanity probably explains why the film missed you.
Gerry- Netflix really doesn’t ever have that long of a wait for brand new titles. Honestly, if there is one, it’s only a week or so.

there are still people who keep defending Crash as being a quality movie? It’s a film for people with IQs over 90 but under 105. This is most people. That’s why the film is still #1.

Maybe because netflix suddenly grew in popularity at roughly the same time that crash was # 1 movie to rent, and people that join netflix automatically order movies they like plus the #1 movie, so it always stays on number one, whereas the other movies below it are not as automatically rented?

I believe that the reason “Crash” is still #1 is the timing. When it won the Oscar, it was already on DVD, and most people hadn’t seen it. Plus, that was around the time that Netflix was really taking off.
I’m surprised that damn “Water Horse: Legend of the Deep” isn’t listed … 9 out of 10 times when you search for a movie (any movie, regardless of the title and how close it is to “Water Horse: Legend of the Deep”), that movie comes up in the results. Netflix must have invested some money on that one …

My theory is that these movies are the top 100 because they have the most copies and they don’t rent as much as they used to. (They are old titles!) Because they are old, they are %100 pure profit. The other reason is that customers will rent these titles (they will be in stock! Duh) While waiting for their “hot” titles to be available.
