Okay, so we expected to see the Dennis Rodmans and the Chynas of the world join the cast of NBC’s I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!, the Survivor-like reality series that puts 10 celebs in a Costa Rican jungle. But Rod Blagojevich? We knew the guy was a little trashy, since he, you know, allegedly tried to sell Barack Obama’s Senate seat. But who would have thought the disgraced Illinois governor would have reality show ambitions?
Appearing on Celebrity might be a step down for Blago’sresume, but I’m guessing the move will be an epic win for NBC,especially since the show premiered on ABC in 2003 to little fanfare. (After all, millions of viewers already tune in to watch Blago, a.k.a. Mayor Quimby, on The Simpsons, so who’s saying this will be any different?) Is it unsettling, though, to see politics and reality TV mix? A little, I admit. But I, for one, could not be happier with this news. The guy has zero chance of jump-starting his political career once again, so why not send him into a jungle with a series of has-beens? Better yet, instead of jail time, why not make Blago stay down in Costa Rica with Z-list celebs for the duration of his pending sentence? I’d say a few days with the Verne Troyers of the world is worse than several years in the penitentiary.
What do you think, PopWatchers? Are you excited about the prospect of seeing Blago on reality TV? And what other politicians would you like to see follow his lead? Is Eliot Spitzer primed to host a revival of Temptation Island?

Make. It. Stop. PLEASE.
Note to Kate… you have exacerbated the problem.
There’s no reason why I want a corrupt, inept, and coarse politician in my room. For the love of God, people… ENOUGH is ENOUGH.
In this video, Keith Olbermann elaborates on Blagojevich’s reality show:

It is Quimby not Quimbly. Have you even seen The Simpslons… I mean The Simpsons… okay it is easier to add an L to a last name, sorry.
Actually, Governor Bleep is a better nickname for him that Mayor Quimby.
I doubt this will happen – he needs court approval to leave the country, and who knows if his request will be granted.
That being said, can’t we just drop him off by himself in Costa Rica and leave him there?
Interesting…and just a note the mayor on the Simpsons is mayor Quimby not Quimbly
What do you have against Costa Rica? Keep your opportunists and deceiving politicians up there where they learnt their skills in your everything-goes, deceiving elbow society. We have to deal with our own poisonous snakes, and God forbid that one of hours would harm yours.
Exactly as Somalian pirates fight for their country, again nuclear dumping and illegal fishing in their waters, so do we have a brigade against American culture infiltration. Please tell this sick puppy to stay where the hell he is!
They’ve done what Britain has started doing to try and revive the celeb-reality format, and started putting controversial political figures (usually collapsing under the weight of massive legal fees – sound familiar?) alongside z list celebs. Celeb Big Brother has featured hard left politicians Tommy Sheridan (who disappointed many by being mature and personable throughout) and George Galloway (who didn’t disappoint at all), as well as Germaine Greer, for all of the five minutes she lasted before walking when Sly Stallone’s mother turned up to cause controversy for her ex daughter-in-law. The Brit version of I’m a Celebrity has included a gay, very senior British police officer as well…though that year was more surreal for it’s inclusion of George Takei…lord knows how they persuaded him to jump on that particular ship…
How can you not watch just to see what his hair will look like after being exposed to Costa Rican weather for a few days?
Rod Blagojevich on reality TV? I would definitely tune it. He is a clown, and I love clowns! But, NO to Octomom and Michael Vick.
If he gets court approval, the money he makes will help paid for the defense, instead of the state paying for it. As for Costa Rica – its a good thing, it will help pump money into the crunched economy
