Ashton Kutcher vs. CNN: Who'll be Twitter's first millionaire?

Categories: Tech

Cnnkutcher_lThe race is on: According to CNN, the news network is battling Ashton Kutcher and Britney Spears to become the first Twitter account to amass one million followers. At the moment, CNN Breaking News (@cnnbrk) is in the lead with 940,126, followed by Spears (@britneyspears) with 905,433 and Kutcher (@aplusk) with 896,340. (@EWPopWatch just broke 21K, but my spanking-new account, @davekarger, is running a bit behind…hint, hint.)

At this point, it looks like CNN has this one in the bag, unless Spears or Kutcher are able to make a late surge. But here’s my question: Who else could have rivaled these big three if they had an active Twitter account? Oprah? Rush Limbaugh? (They both seem to have accounts, but haven’t actually tweeted as of yet.) And who do you wish was on Twitter but isn’t? My vote? David Letterman.

Sorry to say but Twitter is worthless, and frankly, so are all of these pathetic celebrities clawing for their 15 more minutes of fame. When have either Ashton Kutcher or Britney Spears been relevant and interesting?

I don’t like following celebs, but I’d totally follow Jon Stewart.

Steve….Stephen Colbert already has a twitter account. In my opinion he has the best account, all of his tweets (is that what you call it) are really funny.

Apparently, it’s ILLEGAL to sell a “free” Twitter account. Only if the account is inactive and both parties agree. So aaaaall these couple of years when you were THINKING you were following a company/person they say they were, it was a *fraud* behind it. So think twice when you see “@camerondiaz” and think just because it SOUNDS like her that it IS her. But _anyone_ can follow me. #intactivist #londonont

BTW… I own “@clevelandshow”, so if you want to get in on the ground floor on the upcoming ‘Family Guy’ spin-off (tentatively called ‘The Cleveland Show’), contact me. ($$$!!!)
