Jeff Corwin heading to Food Network: Can Brian Boitano be far behind?

Jeffcorwin_lI have good news, and I have weird news. The good? The endlessly likable and wholesome Jeff Corwin is returning to a regular TV gig. The weird? It’s on the Food Network. My first thought was: "Whoa, he’ll teach us about exotic animals and how to eat them!" Mmmm, lemurburgers. (Kidding! I’m kidding.)

Alas, it’s a bit more Bourdanian normal than that. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show will follow Corwin as he "travels the world, meets with natives, samples exotic foods and learns about local customs."

Grand. It appears the Food Network is trying branch out a bit more, which might be why they’re working on a Brian Boitano show. A rep for the channel confirmed that they’re "looking at the possibility of something with Brian," who was recently spotted at a Bay Area roller derby bout filming an episode of the could-be show.

C’mon, Food Network! I want a Brian Boitano lifestyle cooking show so bad I can taste it. Heyo, food joke.

Remember when Food Network actually had COOKING shows? As it is, they oughta start a spin-off channel for all those stupid designer cake contests they show.

I can’t see his name without humming South Park The Movie tunes.

Several years ago I watched Brian Boitano narrate a tour of his home on an early HGTV show. He used the term “teetering on Tuscany” to describe his interior design. Say what you want, but right then I knew a style star was born!

Food Network’s decent into irrelevancy continues.
I have nothing against Jeff Corwin or Brian Boitano, but these two seem to have been hired for their name value rather than their food expertise. The deification of talentless hacks like Guy Fieri (or Poochie, as Anthony Bourdain calls him), and the over-abundance of Cake Competitions has caused me to watch less and less of the Food Network over the last few years.
If it weren’t for Alton Brown and his wonderful show ‘Good Eats’, I wouldn’t watch the channel at all.
This fall from grace is a shame but, considering its wretched treatment of its stalwarts Emeril LeGasse, Mario Batali, and Sara Moulton, I won’t miss the Food Network one little bit after it implodes.

Wait doesn’t this show already exist. Except with Andrew Zimmern who I adore.

I adore Jeff Corwin, but why would Food Network give him a show? They already have Alton Brown traveling around and eating local food (we need more Feating on Waves/Asphalt BTW). Anthony Bourdain has his (awesome)show on Travel. WTH do Jeff Corwin & Brian Boitano know about food? Food Network is slowly killing itself with the overabundance of challenge shows and way too much Diners, Drive-ins & Dives marathons, so I can’t see the logic in adding 2 non-chefs to the mix. Besides, I like to think of Jeff Corwin traveling around showing us exotic locations and the animals he finds, but certainly not how the locals eat those same animals! Just Ewww…
