I don’t know why, but every time I think about Quentin Tarantino guest-mentoring tonight’s episode of American Idol, all I can think about is how Ellen DeGeneres once referred to him as "Quentin Tarantutti." I think it was on an old episode of Ellen. Maybe it was in a standup routine. Not very profound, I know. So I’ll pass the torch to you all to discuss tonight’s episode. I’ll be back at nine(ish) with my first impression, then write until the rooster crows to give you a full TV Watch recap. In the interim, watch yourself some Idolatry. My cohost Kristen "put the ‘Go’ in ‘Gokey’" Baldwin is on fiyah, I tell ya!

Oh no. Allison is first. No, no, no.
…and I hate her song choice.
Wow.FINALLY. It’s about time Simon gave Allison props.
finally some ALlison pimping!!!!!!!!! thank god its gonna be 2 at a time… who cares about what randy and kara have to say anyways!
Alison Rocks!!!! But whats up with only 2 judges commenting? Nice to c Simon give her the praise she deserves…. about bloody time!!!!!
How weird that Kara and Randy didn’t even get to comment on her performance. I thought it was really good for a very tired song. I actually think it was better than David Cook’s version from last year and finally Simon decided to give Allison her due.
I am confused. I love Allison, but I really hated her song choice and didn’t think she sang it that well — but tonight Simon finally complements her ??? I have to think the Idol producers are finally getting hip to the fact that they backed the wrong woman early on (Lil) and are trying a dramatic late-season about-face so if Allison wins, they can pretend like they were always behind her.
Anoop did a really good job but everyone does that song like every season!!!!! Be a little more creative please!!!!
I completely agree! What a turnaround from a week ago when Simon said Danny, Lil and Adam would make it to the final three!
Me too, ELF. I honestly thought the judges were going to go all-out with criticism. Especially with the song choice and the first placement.
Like, the key was too low and it’s a horrible song and Allison is so much better than that. But at least she’s getting props.
love adam’s tight jeans
Oh god, I’m gonna shoot myself if I have to hear Adam screaming for another six weeks. Why has Simon not called any one of his performances indulgent???
Simon called Ring of Fire indulgent.
Adam did his “rocker” imitation again. Would he really sing songs like that if he puts out a CD? I’m with Simon, last week’s was much better.
Oh, and Slezak, if after tonight you still claim that Paula has the most relevant critiques and Kara doesn’t, my brain will explode. How the hell is “You brought the special sauce! Fortune rewards the brave and you have fortune smiling on you!” better than “You brought soul to that song and did a good job.” Seriously.
Allison- I think it was a change up for her. I agree it wasnt her most stellar vocal but i really liked her phrasing and the emotion she had towards the middle and end of the performance.
Anooooop- His best perfomance yet
Adam- hes crazy. I love him.
