Susan Boyle's 'Britain's Got Talent' audition gives Simon his second spontaneous 'O' of the week

By now, you’ve probably seen this weekend’s viral video sensation, 47-year-old ("and that’s just one siiiiide of me!") Susan Boyle’s audition for Britain’s Got Talent. The never-been-kissed Scot blew away the initially sneer-mongering judges with her rendition of "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Miserables, causing Simon Cowell to sort of shift in his seat a little bit while allowing one the most sheepish documented grins to date spread over his "O" face. You can watch the entire clip on YouTube (embedding’s disabled), or just bask in the two most telling before-and-after facial reactions, below.

Suck it, eye-rolling tween! You’ll be that "old" and "awful" someday, too.

That. Was. AWESOME. I hope she wins!

Saw this on Sat. through Perez. The biggest shock and the coolest preformance I have ever seen on TV. The end made me cry. Simon made me laugh, too, with his “I knew it” speech.

  • Ted Smith

She was fantastic. From this we learn not to judge a book by it’s cover! Go Susan Boyle!

  • JL

Absolutely phenomenal. I get chills watching this performance.

I’m stunned! I grew up listening to the British Les Mis and I think she could hold her own against the original Fontine! Well done! I absolutly loved it! And Simon’s face was priceless!

  • dayana

That was awesome. I’d like to see obnoxious, eye-rolling teenager get up there and sing something even half that good.

  • Amy

I’m glad I’m not the only one that teared up at the end. That was amazing…

  • Alex

Fantastic performance. How she proved them all wrong, I was cheering and crying for this woman!

I love susan boyle, and stavros flatley too! I wish we got this here in the states.

To Annie Barrett: Who are you to call Susan Boyle “old and awful”? You’re just as obnoxious as those who laughed and rolled their eyes at Susan just based on how she looks. Susan has a great voice and I hope she can take advantage of the situation.

This totally made me weep, something I very rarely do.

  • lm

I hope she wins! But even if she doesn’t, will someone PULEEZE give her a contract? I want to buy her CDs!!! (And please sell them in the U.S.!)

Beautiful song sung by a beautiful voice. I play the full clip once a day to remind me not to judge others by their looks. This woman definitely has humbled many with her first television appearance. I wish her the future she always dreamed of and to tell her that life hasn’t killed the dream. It just postponed it until the right moment.

mk: Annie was calling the tween on her obnoxious eye roll, not giving her own opinion of Susan Boyle. It’s quite obvious that the tween was thinking “OMG, WTF is this old and awful lady doing here? ROTFLMAO!” Perhaps quotes around “old and awful” would’ve made the sarcasm more obvious, but the “suck it” comment pretty much gave it away.

  • to mk

I thought Annie was being sarcastic…

It really teaches us not to “judge a book by a cover”. I think she is excellent! I really hope she wins! I felt really emotional after watching this! SUSAN TO WIN!!

  • robert

Simply beautiful!!!!Thank you for sharing the clip, it totally brightened up my day, month, year!!!!

  • Laura

This is one of the most heartwarming things I have ever seen! I cried at the end, and I never do that! Go Susan!!

  • PS

Have listened to the repeats of her performance so many times and still get goosebumps each time! Amazing.

  • J

I love that lady. I love her sense of humor, her lack of an iota of fakery, and her stage presence. She performed and started to walk off as if it were her own headlined concert. She could most certainly hold her own on any Elaine Page song. But most of all I love how everyone was proved wrong.

  • Tracy

    That was wonderful.

  • Hans Siepman

Saw the performance at youtube. What a voice, I’m stunned. We were in London last year and went to ‘Les Misserables’. It was wonderful. And now when I listen to Susan Boyle I am back in London again. What a beautifull voice.

  • graeme

I like that off the top Susan totally milks her frumpiness for all its worth in order to really throw it back in the audience face once she sings.

  • Lynny

She looked so confident and it was funny that everyone was so surprised. As if being gorgeous is supposed to go with talent. Either way, I love that she knew she was about to blow the roof off.

  • Annie Barrett

To “mk”: Indeed, “old and awful” = from the perspective of eye-rolling tween. Since millions of people have seen this now, that betch better watch her possibly scoliosis-afflicted back!

  • beelkay

Wow. I’d pay to hear her in Les Miz. She did that song justice.

  • Polka

Kupię jej płytę jeśli się ukaże :D Super jest kobietka :)
