Phil, thanks for the blogs! I think what you’re doing for MS is great and we love that you make time to give us your insight on the episodes when you get the chance. Awesome! Looking forward to next week’s episodes… meltdowns are always interesting.
I’ve always been curious – can you tell us why BJ and Tyler (“the hippies”) were not on Amazing Race All-Stars? They were definitely my favorite race team (though Mel and Mike are up there… I’m so sad they’re gone! Hooray for teams with great attitudes!) and I think they would’ve been hilarious.
It could be editing but I find Luke obnoxious and his mother enabling of his 8 year old attitude. He’s had struggles no doubt but there are many other people, in this world with far worse hurdles in life that don’t rely on the sympathy of other people to their affliction to give them an excuse to behave badly. Luke needs to grow up and understand Mama won’t be at his side to protect and excuse his bad behavior in all circumstances.
Is it just me or does it appear that Phil has an extra soft spot for Margie and Luke that you don’t see with the other contestants? Again, I understand editing can make or break a team in the fans eyes.
Love the show have never missed an episode in any season. Phil you are the best and many thanks for your dedicated ride for MS.
Phil, Excellent episode this week!!! I greatly appreciate it that you take the time to write your blog while you’re doing the bike ride for MS awareness.
Keep up the good work!!!
I was also wondering about the three hour and nineteen minutes difference in M&M’s time. T&V left at 9:27 PM and M&M left at 12:46 AM. Originally, M&M had arrived at the pitstop first and waited half an hour before T&V showed up. Their hour penalty should have only put them a half hour behind T&V, but yet they left three hours and nineteen minutes later. What kind of sense does that make?
I can’t believe some of the comments that people are making about Luke and Margie. Did I watch a different show but what I saw Luke was not in the fault and Jen and Kisha talking trash caused it to continue on through to the end. Having a handicap does not entitle a person to get away with anything but what I saw was Jen and Kisha laughing at Luke. Very low. Hopefully they will get what they deserve in the end. Phil I have great respect for you and think you are a great class act. I watched you when you were on the Travel channel. Keep up the good work.
Julia,
Calm Down Now.
Luke clearly threw an elbow at the first box and gave the girl a semi-Hip-Check.
His elbow was uncalled for, for sure. This is why the producers showed it over and over again.
Just because Luke is deaf does not give him a free pass at everything.
If it was a couple without hearing problems and the black girls were laughing at the excuse of the other couple, it would be fine to everyone.
Just because someone laughs at a deaf person it does not make them “low”. I laughed watching Luke go nuts in this exchange because it was funny. Both he and his mom only see it from their point of view. After they review the tape and the mom realizes Luke started the whole thing, Luke should apologize to the first black girl. I’M sorry I don’t know her name. I also laughed when Luke got a bite from the Duck, it was funny. I have deaf friends, heck I’M stuck in a wheelchair, but I can take a joke or sarcasm. If anyone crossed the line Phil would jump in for sure and take action
I’m sorry… I lost all respect for Margie and Luke tonight. It makes me sick that they used the deaf card and tried to make that an issue when the issue was claerly a behaviorial issue. I’m sure that the exact same scenarios would have played out if Luke could hear. They sound paranoid by turning it into a deaf issue and they sound ignorant by throwing in the race card. They really out to be ashamed. No one behaved appropriately, but at least that eas the heat of the game. Margie and Luke wanted to believe it was something else, which makes them very foolish and less credible.
wheres the blog for last night??
The Amazing Race sounded like the The Amazing Race Card last night. Lukes Mom Wigged-Out and simply Lost-It.
It all started when Luke and a young black girl “Jen or Kisha” went to get a clue at the Clue box.
All of a sudden Luke Jumped Up and threw his arm in the air almost hitting the girl in the face. Not only did he throw an arm, he also threw his mid section like a Hockey Player doing a “Hip-Check”. It was so silly, all this drama just to see who gets a clue 2 seconds faster than the next person. It’s only a clue. If there happens to be a Fast-Forward you can’t tell anyway because the clues are sealed.
And for Lukes Mom to say the Girls were laughing at Luke because of his disability, that’s just wrong. I also laugh to myself sometimes when Luke says, Dohh! or some other grunt, as it is kinda funny sometimes. Not in a mean way, just because it funny watching Luke when he is hysterical and whining like a little girl. When the Duck bit his finger we all laughed so hard. Continued
Remember our old friend, The Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin?
I had the great opportunity to meet him back in 1997 when he was in Miami Florida filming some Everglades Adventure.
Steve caught this monitor lizard with huge claws and teeth that made his hands bleed so bad. After filming we went to dinner at Joes Stone Crabs and his hands were so cut-up it took about 1/2 tube of neosporin to cover his wounds. It was nothing to Steve, two of the cuts were given a single stitch the following day. Not once did Steve complain about the wounds and he told me the Animals were just trying to get food or in some cases, get away.
Luke was cring like a baby over a simple little duck-bill-snap on his hand. I’M sure it may have hurt a bit to someone with soft hands, but it was funny when luke said, “Dumb Duck”. It’s hard not to laugh at deaf people when they communicate with us. I personally know about 10 hand signs. Many times I make the wrong sign and it means something else. Writing on paper is OK
Ona-Emtnest,
I believe Phil feels sorry for Luke, and he really does not belong in this game when it’s a physical game that people need all their senses to compete. You cannot always have a translator with you and it seems Luke is a little mommy’s Boy, more so than the TV Shows. They should not allow another deaf person to compete in The Amazing Race again. I have a disability also, I’M in a wheelchair and I don’t feel “entitled” or that they should make a special exception to allow me to race in this game. Since I cannot walk it would not be fair to the other people in the race.
In one of the Road Blocks they had a choice to Dance to Music or Write, Luke cannot hear music so they went to the other task. So essentially this entire race had to be catered to Luke and what he was capable of doing. Continued…
I think Phil (and lots of other people) are in love with Luke for no other reason than he’s deaf. Well, I know quite a few deaf people and NONE of them display the childish behavior and whininess of Luke. I believe he’s a poor representation of deaf people rather than an inspiration. If not for his dead weight, Margie would probably win every leg of this race.
Dibbs,
I agree with you, Luke is a young, immature little boy. I hesitate to call him a young man.
I have deaf friends also and they can take any joke or sarcasm we can throw at them.
if luke is so sensitive about what people say about him, well, he has a lot of growing-up to do.
My deaf friends know when they are mad, they only use hand signals to express their anger emotions. They do not say Dohh, or Doe, or the strange grunts deaf people make. It only opens the door for people to laugh. It was very funny to watch Luke squirm and complain when he was mad. Luke’
s flying Elbow started the entire drama scene. Luke is Goofy, very Goofy. He would get cut down to size in front of most deaf people his age. many of them are complaining Luke does not represent them in any way.
When he got a bite from the Duck we all laughed, we would have laughed if it was any other contestant in the race also. Because Luke is deaf do we not laugh because it is politically correct? I don’t think so.
